With the world at the brink of a melt down, more than ever before, we need to
hear God's voice. And it's vital that we understand His word so that we see and
perceive correctly, not only how to live in days like these, but also how to defeat
any demonic strategies set against us. Most of the time, defeating the enemy
really means that we're not on the defensive, we're on the offensive! God
wants us to have an offensive strategy. This is why He has given us "The
Sword of the Spirit", His word.
It was not by choice but by providence that I learned about Leviathan. I find it
was the same for Job. Because of the devastation by his losses, he wished for
"those who arouse Leviathan" to curse the day he was born (Job 3:8). He’s
referring to enchanters who worshipped the crocodile spirit named Leviathan,
summoning curses and chaos. Job had much to learn about this great, strong and
fierce enemy of God and mankind. I believe that God is now revealing to us this
leviathan spirit as he is one of the greatest ememies in the arsenal of Satan we
face in these times. We must understand who he is, how he works in peoples
lives, his agenda and how we are to defeat him. We do not want to be destroyed
for lack of knowledge.
THE PRIDE THAT DIVIDES
"In the early chapters of Job, Satan sought God’s permission to take Job’s wealth,
health and family, bringing him into desperate pain.
Around the time Job spoke this unwise lament (Job 3:8), his 3 friends showed up
to comfort him. They found him sitting on a pile of ashes, covered with boils.
Stunned by the sight, Job’s friends wept and couldn’t speak for days.
When Job’s friends found the courage to speak, their pious words backfired and
created a rift. The problem was not just with Job’s comforters alone. In his pain,
Job had become self-righteous and irreconcilable. Defending himself and
overplaying his own righteousness, Job denied any sin in his life at all. Then he
brazenly demanded a hearing with God! He had lost his spiritual perspective as
well as his connection with those who came to show him love.
Near the end of the story, Job got his hearing with the Almighty, but He didn’t
coddle or justify him. In fact, the Lord rebuked Job: "Where were you when I laid
out the foundations of the earth?" (38:4) "Would you condemn me so that you
can be justified?" (40:8)
God wisely unmasked a trait that keeps people from being healed and
restored after loss. In our pain, we can become self-righteous. "I didn’t do
anything to deserve this, God! It’s you and your people that are wrong!" This
pride creates a wedge in our relationship with God and His people,
just as it did with Job.

In Job 41 is God’s closing argument. He outlines Leviathan’s frightening
arrogance and destructive nature. Leviathan’s "scales are his pride" (v. 15).
His heart is "as hard as stone" (v. 24). He is "the king over all the children of
pride" (v. 34). God is saying, "Job, look at your self. Pride and pain are ruling you
and twisting your perception. Like Leviathan, you’ve become twisted, hardened
and irreconcilable."
That was all it took. Job saw it, and it broke him. In the next chapter, Job repents
of his pride and is restored based on his willingness to reconcile with his friends:
"And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the
Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. (Job 42:10)

Much of the book is dealing with the philosophical discussion between Job and
his 3 friends in their debate of trying to understand why God allowed this tragedy
to happened.

In chapter 38, God breaks into their philosophical discussion and reproves Job.

"Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
"Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou
me." Job 38:1-3

From this chapter forward, God opens Job's eyes to see his own pride and self
righteousness and gives him a picture of true wisdom and understanding of not
only the things of God, but of the hidden giants that distorts and destroys ones
life and character. The one I want to share with you today is the great, strong and
fierce Leviathan. He is mentioned by name in only 3 books of the Bible, Job,
Psalms and Isaiah, but you can find him by his characteristic all through
Scripture. In Job 41, God defined or describes Leviathan in detail.
Job 41 (NCV®)
1 Can you pull in the leviathan with a fishhook
or tie down his tongue with a rope?
2 Can you put a cord through his nose
or pierce his jaw with a hook?
3 Will he keep begging you for mercy?
Will he speak to you with gentle words?
4 Will he make an agreement with you
for you to take him as your slave for life?
5 Can you make a pet of him like a bird
or put him on a leash for your girls?
6 Will traders barter for him?
Will they divide him up among the merchants?
7 Can you fill his hide with harpoons
or his head with fishing spears?

8 If you lay a hand on him,
you will remember the struggle and never do it again!
9 Any hope of subduing him is false;
the mere sight of him is overpowering.
10 No one is fierce (brave) enough to rouse him.
Who then is able to stand against me?
11 Who has a claim against me that I must pay?
Everything under heaven belongs to me.
12 I will not fail to speak of his limbs,
his strength and his graceful form.
13 Who can strip off his outer coat?
Who would approach him with a bridle?
14 Who dares open the doors of his mouth,
ringed about with his fearsome teeth?
15 His back has rows of shields (scales)
tightly sealed together;
16 each (scale) is so close to the next
that no air can pass between.
17 They are joined fast to one another;
they cling together and cannot be parted.
18 His snorting throws out flashes of light;
his eyes are like the rays of dawn.
19 Firebrands stream from his mouth;
sparks of fire shoot out.
20 Smoke pours from his nostrils
as from a boiling pot over a fire of reeds.
21 His breath sets coals ablaze,
and flames dart from his mouth.
22 Strength resides in his neck;
dismay goes before him.
23 The folds of his flesh are tightly joined;
they are firm and immovable.
24 His chest (heart) is hard as rock,
hard as a lower millstone.
25 When he rises up, the mighty are terrified;
they retreat (draw back) before his thrashing
26 The sword that reaches him has no effect,
nor does the spear or the dart or the javelin.
27 Iron he treats like straw
and bronze like rotten wood.

28 Arrows do not make him flee;
slingstones are like chaff to him.
29 A club seems to him but a piece of straw;
he laughs at the rattling of the lance.
30 His undersides [of its body] are jagged potsherds,
[from H2790 magical craft; also silence: - cunning, secretly]
leaving a trail in the mud like a threshing sledge.

31 He makes the depths [of the sea] churn like a boiling

caldron [pot] and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment [oil].
32 Behind him he leaves a glistening wake;
one would think the deep had white hair.
33 Nothing on earth is his equal—
a creature without fear.
34 He looks down on all that are haughty;
he is king over all that are proud."
God makes it plain that no human is a match for this very powerful, fearless,
formidable foe, who has no contender but God. If you should find yourself so
unfortunate as to encounter him, you will not forget the terrible battle and will
never do it again! God is the only one who can deal with Leviathan.

Definition of Leviathan
The word leviathan has become synonymous with any large sea monster or
creature.
H3882 Leviathan From H3867; (law-vaw) a wreathed animal, that is, a
serpent (especially the crocodile or some other large sea monster); figuratively
the constellation of the dragon; also as a symbol of Babylon and Egypt: -
leviathan, mourning.
The transliterated Hebrew word for Leviathan (livyathan) means, "twisted," and
"coiled." In Job 3:8, (Revised Version, and margin, of Authorized Version), it
denotes the "dragon" which, according to Eastern tradition, is an enemy of light.
In Job 41:1, leviathan is understood to be like a crocodile. In Psalms 104:26 it
denotes "any large animal that moves by writhing or wriggling the body, the
whale, the monsters of the deep." This word is also used figuratively for a cruel
enemy,... and as used in Isaiah 27:1 "leviathan the piercing [RSV 'swift']
serpent, even leviathan that crooked [RSV margin, 'winding'] serpent."
Could it be that this Leviathan was a dinosaur or "super crocodile", or as the
scripture describes in Ps 74:14 and in Job 41:1: "as a large sea monster of
unknown identity". I believe the "great red dragon" in Revelation 12 is related or
referring to leviathan, as it has 7 heads, and in Ps.74:13,14 we see that leviathan
and the dragons of the sea also has several heads that God breaks.

"Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the
dragons in the waters. Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in
pieces...."
The Lord uses these animal to describe the activities of this evil spirit, like
the Nile crocodile that steals up on its prey, snatches it, drags it down into the
water and literally twists the life out it. Having consumed its prey, it then flees.
This demonstrates the vile nature of this spirit.
In Isaiah, leviathan is referred to as the "twisted serpent.” In Satan’s arsenal of
devil spirits, this spirit referred to as ‘leviathan’ is one of the most deadly,
confusing, destructive, deceiving, successful and strongest spirits the enemy has.
The Word of God warns us, in many places, of excesses in this area and we will
cover some of those Scriptures.
Who is Leviathan?
How do you expose and counter attack his assaults?

Leviathan is believed to be a demon principality

not just a demon spirit.
In Job 3-8 reference is made to a dragon, which according to ancient mythology,
was supposed to cause eclipses by wrapping itself around the sun. Leviathan was
considered to be a great mythical monster, identified with the Babylonian mother
goddess, Timat.
The Lord made it clear in describing leviathan that natural weapons cannot
destroy him. It will take the sword of the Lord to overcome this wicked
principality Leviathan.
"In that day the Lord with his severe sword, great and strong, will punish
Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisted serpent, and he will slay
the reptile that is in the sea." Isaiah 27:1
Paul tells us in Ephesians. 6:11,12
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against
the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places.
and in 2nd Corinthians 10:3-5
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through
God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself
against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every
thought to the obedience of Christ".

 What is the "Spirit of Leviathan"?
“every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God”
WHAT ARE LEVIATHAN'S WICKED SCHEMES?
In Proverbs 6:16-19—Solomon list seven abominations that God hates:
Could these be 7 heads of leviathan that God will break?

(1) A proud look

(2) A lying tongue
(3) Hands that shed innocent blood
(4) A heart that devises wicked plans
(5) Feet that are swift in running to evil
(6) A false witness who speaks lies
(7) One who sows discord among brethren
First is "The spirit of "Pride"
Job 41:34 He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children
of pride.
Pride, haughtiness, that which is arrogant, conceited, inflated, puffed up are
high things. Leviathan is the king over all the children of pride. So that means if
there is an area of pride in me, who do you think is controlling that area?
Leviathan! Pride of position, pride of power, pride of who I am or what I do,
pride of what I possess etc. All of these "pride issues" are controlled by leviathan.
Pride and leviathan are synonymous. It is hard to separate them because pride
causes that stony heart to close the scales and folds together, blocking
the Spirit of God from entering. Some people will sit listening, but do not
understand, hear or grasp what God is saying through His Word. Leviathan's
most crucial work is in the area of keeping people from receiving the
things of God and of the Holy Spirit, by blocking deliverance.
This evil spirit carries an attitude of superiority, haughtiness, boasting
and arrogance. He not only works in this kind of environment but attacks
nations, churches, ministries and individuals with the temptations of
pride. The Bible says for us not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought
to.
Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in
lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
The leviathan spirit promotes self and self-serving agendas. We need to
watch out for a false confidence, and keep a humble trust in the Lord.
When God is using you, there is a constant temptation to play the name game or
measure yourself with another and feel like we are more successful.
Remember, it was with his tail that Satan withdrew a third of the stars, the
angelic hosts who cast their lot with the devil. We need to watch for the tail
of leviathan. We need to daily remain broken before God.

 What makes Leviathan so proud?
Isaiah 14:12-14 "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the
morning! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I
will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the
mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend
above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."
Job 41:15 His scales (protector, defense) are his pride (arrogance or
haughtiness) shut up together as with a close seal.
"His pride is in the strength of his shields; their seal is closed tightly".

16 each (scale) is so close to the next
that no air can pass between.
17 They are joined fast to one another;
they cling together and cannot be parted. (broke through or separate)
"Each is attached to the other; they are interlocked and cannot be separated"

23 The folds of his flesh are tightly joined;
they are firm and immovable.
In the scripture, air, breath and wind are synonymous with the Holy Spirit.
"The reason people get so shut in is because of the effects of leviathan's tight coils
around them, inhibiting the moving of the Holy Spirit. They cannot hear or
discern the Holy Spirit because no air of the Holy Spirit is able to get in because
this evil principality has such a strangle hold". If the Holy Spirit cannot get
through to a person, Satan is sure of his victim, they will lose their salvation. This
is why Satan gloats over his tight scales. YES, God can deliver us from this spirit
of leviathan, but the key to our deliverance is, "are we listening? are we
willing? will we submit?"

Isaiah 63:10 But they (children of Israel) rebelled, and vexed his holy
Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought
against them.

God gave all flesh the opportunity for freedom from all sin by the shed blood of
His dear Son Jesus. If we rebel against him by refusing to listen and obey His
Holy Spirit because of our pride, God will become our enemy and fight against us.

If the Holy Spirit cannot get through to us because of our pride, we will not be
sealed.

Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed
unto the day of redemption

Another way to look at this "no air getting through" is as people who suffer from
depression or heaviness. In his love, God has made a way for us to have
freedom over these bondages. His name is Jesus Christ and he said:

Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath
anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me
to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
verse 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of
vengeance of our God; (the day God destroys leviathan!!) to comfort all that
mourn;
verse 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them
beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise
for the spirit of heaviness"
Psalms 100 tells us that we are to enter in God's presents of worship with praise
and thanksgiving. The leviathan spirit will shut you down if you allow him to take
control of your prayer and praise life. Darkness and heaviness will take the place
of thanksgiving and worship. It will make you to where you cannot and will not
come into the presence of the Lord, because "in His presence is fulness of joy; at
thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." (Psalms 16:11).
For those who suffer from depression, the greatest thing you need in your life is
joy. We get that in the presence of the Lord. It is the Holy Spirit that is working in
you. Joy is expressed first inwardly then expressed on the countenance. The Holy
Spirit is the only one who can cut through leviathan's tightly sealed scales. We
have to be willing to let Him do it.

Where does the strength of leviathan lie?

Job 41:22 Strength (force) boldness, might, power) resides in his neck; (
binding; the back of the neck (as that on which burdens are bound) dismay goes
before him.
Job 41:24 His heart (the feelings, the will and even the intellect; the centre of
anything) is hard as rock,
When one is bound up in pride, he is stiff-necked (immovable) and his heart is
hard as a rock (unyielding).
Satan binds people up through their feelings, their will, their thoughts or
mind, their intellect.
Webster’s Dictionary. "intellect"; to understand; "The power or faculty of
knowledge as distinguished from the power to feel and to will; especially the
power of reasoning, judging, comprehending."
If we allow our feelings (pride) and self -will (stiff neck and hard heart) to
override our reasoning, judging, comprehending of God's truth, then we are
bound to leviathan.
Listen to what God's says concerning Pharaoh king of Egypt, comparing him to
leviathan because of his proud heart, and all the fish in the river [the children

with the same prideful spirit?] that sticks to his scales.
Ezekiel 29:3 "... Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh
king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers,
which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for
myself. (Pride!)

verse 4 But I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy
rivers to stick unto thy scales, and I will bring thee up out of the midst
of thy rivers, and all the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales.

verse 5 And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish
of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be brought
together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the
field and to the fowls of the heaven.
We need to submit and surrender all areas of pride to God for He is the only one
who can contend with leviathan. God is showing his people that now is the
time for us to humble our hearts before him and die to self. If we do not,
we will remain bound under the cruel, strong and fierce spirit of leviathan, the
enemy of God and share his fate.
"Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken. Give glory to
the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet
stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into
the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

“But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your
pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears,
because the LORD'S flock is carried away captive.” Jeremiah 13:15 -17
Pride will harden us if we allow it to remain there. When that hardness is there,
there is not going to be any joy. There is not going to be any laughter in the Lord.
It is going to be death. It is hardness of heart. WHATEVER IS IN OUR
HEARTS, THAT IS WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO. This is why God must
deliver us and set us free from the strongholds, because we do not always know
our hearts.

Leviathan is buried in self

When we get down to that real, true self, we are where leviathan has
his stronghold. He's a writhing serpent with seven heads. There is a part deep
inside where leviathan dwells. Even after ousting him, there's still self-will
which says, "This is as far as I'm willing to go," and sure enough, if
you listen; that is as far as you will go.
In verse 31, leviathan makes the deep to boil like a pot and in Psalms 42:7 it says
"deep calleth unto deep." This brings us back to self again. The deep is
where the real you is located. There is a deep inside all of us, and we should
be very careful about who we let in there.God can get in there, deep calls unto
deep, but the leviathan spirit will cause that deep to boil. There will be a

restlessness and turmoil inside. Sometimes you cannot sleep well because
there is something moving around, boiling in there. This could well be a
leviathan spirit at work inside. Also note that this boiling is not only in you
but that it also stirs up other people.
You may say you have no pride but rebellious pride often hides. Leviathan is
sneaky and subtle and can easily hide himself. He can twist, writhe and
slip out of the way; causing one to reject dependence on God and subjection to
God. He is quick to attribute to self, the honor due to God, therefore this pride
is the very root and essence of all sin.
All the self spirits are connected with leviathan. There are certain areas in
our life that we do not want others to know about. When you are dealing with the
enemy, you have to be honest with God and those helping you. You will let God
cut off a few leaves, a few limbs, but "don't you dare come down to this root that
lives down in my self life." But God knows everything about you and about me.
WE NEED TO QUIT HIDING IT! LET PRIDE GO! LET GOD SET YOU
FREE! CLAIM THE VICTORY OF JESUS!

Divide and Conquer

The primary purpose of this spirit it to divide and conquer.
This formidable opponent, although hidden, can be very powerful in its effect on
people, marriages, families, churches and even nations, bringing
division for reasons that at the time can seem mystifying. There is no apparent
reason for such division. "An enemy has done this!"
It is pride that gives this spirit access into people's lives. Its influence is spread
through those who are guilty of pride and self-righteousness. Like the
crocodile, this is a hidden spirit that can be lurking in the life of a church or
individual, ready to strike when given the opportunity. However, there is a big
difference between those who inadvertently come under the influence
of this spirit and those who are carriers of this spirit because of their
continued pride and their refusal to repent. Some serve Leviathan
whether they realize it or not; others are merely unwilling victims.

Separation
Why does the enemy target relationships? Our connections with each other
are critical, delivering the love and power we need to fulfill our
destinies. Paul describes the joints in the Body of Christ as keys to our supply
(Ephesians 4:16). Dislocated spiritual joints are painful and disabling to
our unity and growth as the church—a real coup for the enemy.
Separation attacks relationships subtly. A wife wonders, "What did my husband
mean by that?" With the right amount of demonic spin, confusion and
suspicion are sown between the best of friends. The enemy twists things
just a little bit more each time, and if we don’t discern it, things can snap. Even
apostles can fall into to a spirit of division and part over unimportant matters
(See Acts 15:36-40). The rhythm is always the same: Twisting and separation,
twisting and separation—and you never see it coming.

 Lies and Deception
When the scripture speaks about Leviathan, it is always in the sea or in the rivers.
The Egyptians both feared and worshiped this creature. They feared him in
ancient Greek mythology as the "God of Chaos".
Psalms 104:25-26 "This great and wide sea, ... (where) the ships sail about;
there is the Leviathan which you have made to play there."
Play; to laugh (in pleasure or detraction); deride, have in derision, make
merry, mock (-er), rejoice, (laugh to) scorn, (make) sport.
Could this "sea" in which leviathan plays represent the "Sea of humanity" or the
world? Could these ships represent the church or ministries, especially those at
labor in the harvest. This spirit wants to destroy and bring down God's church
and ministries and, as we will see, he will do it with his greatest weapon, his
tongue.
"Out of his nostrils goeth smoke as out of a seething pot or cauldron; his breath
kindleth coals and a flame goeth out of his mouth." This refers to a cutting,
critical tongue rooted in a spirit of pride. I see this smoke going out of
leviathan's nostrils as false praise and worship, like the smoke going up from the
incense burning of Nadab. Because the person is so bound up with pride, he
cannot really praise God. He is too important, too bound up in himself to give any
real praise and worship to God
As a child, one thing that so vividly stuck in my mind about the pictures I saw of
dragons and that was the fire coming out of their mouth. The first way that this
spirit will attack is with his tongue.
(Job 41:1) Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook, or snare his tongue with a
line?
The lying tongue: This spirit attacks out of his mouth with lies, gossip,
accusation, criticism, faultfinding and slander. (Job 41:19) Out of his mouth go
burning lights, sparks of fire shoot out. This brings to mind James' references to
how the tongue kindles a fire. Tongue problems are rooted in leviathan. When he
gets in the church and looses some of that fire, he sets the whole place ablaze.
This is where you can identify Leviathan. What does Leviathan do? It will
tear up churches, homes, individual lives. It will do whatever it can to
destroy a home or a church; by words, by a false fire leaping out of the
mouth, by a destructive mouth.
In Revelation 12:15 it speaks of the serpent spewing water out of his mouth like a
flood after the woman, (God's church) that he might cause her to be carried
away with the flood.
Leviathan is behind lies and deception.
If the devil cannot get you in sin, he will accuse you or even make up a lie against
you when you are innocent. In Proverbs 6:19, "a false witness that uttereth
lies" is one of his heads. We need to be sure to respond to these demonically
inspired attacks, that can come even from those closest to you, being used by the

devils purpose. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood and we must
remember to respond in a right spirit. We can not afford to allow Leviathan
to operate in us, as we can become offended at the lie and accusations, criticisms
or judgments spoken of us and strike back. To strike back or lash out is
what Leviathan wants. It is with his tail in (Revelation 12:4) that he
withdrew a third of the angels in heaven.
Leviathan is working today through the body of Christ and we see many
churches, ministers and organizations bringing accusation against one another.
There is a critical, faultfinding spirit at work in the church and ministries today,
judging and speaking against the moves of God.
We do not need fault finders and those who feel to be the watch dogs of
Christianity but those who will restore the body of Christ (Galatians 6:1)
Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore
such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be
tempted.
Let's beware! The spirit behind Leviathan not only wants to use you as the carrier
of lies, gossip and slander, it also wants you destroyed by lies, gossip and slander,
too!
Lets not let Leviathan work through us but lets operate in the anointing of
Galatians 6:1.
Another way we can counter attack this demonic assault of the tongue and lies,
gossip and slander, is by claiming Gods promise. "the mouth of the lies shall be
stopped" Psalms 63:11 and ( Isaiah 54:17) No weapon formed against you shall
prosper and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you shall
condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord.
We need to start speaking this verse out load and acting on it in
prayer.
We also want to be sure this spirit has no truth in what it says. We don't want
to give him a foot hold by living a lie in our lives. We can only effectively
counter attack this spirit by living in truth in every area of our lives.

Stubbornness
Psalms 78:8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious
generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose
spirit was not stedfast with God.
1st Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and
stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. ...
In Job 41 verse 22, "In his neck remaineth strength." The neck reminds you of the
will. Stiff-necked pride and stubbornness are with leviathan. Jesus spoke of
the stiff-necked and uncircumcised heart. The bowing of the neck is
rebelliousness, which brings us back to pride and sorrow.
Dismay goes with stubborn people just as the flakes or the folds of leviathan's
flesh are joined together; firm in themselves and unable to be moved. These

people cannot be told anything, they know it all. Haughtily they say: "God
showed me that a Christian can't have a demon." If you believe this, you're in
deception.
His heart or chest is said to be as firm as a stone, as hard as a piece of the nether
millstone (verse 24). Here, hard and cold heartedness are tied to leviathan. A
unyielding heart. Have you ever seen a Christian who is hard? You know why? No
air is getting through. The Holy Spirit is not being allowed to cut those scales
apart, and cut them asunder and hardness sets in. "When he raises up himself,
the mighty are afraid...."

Control
Because of its pride, and because it has access into people's lives
through their proud hearts, this spirit wants to be in control. So those
under its influence want to control situations in which they are
placed. They resist submission to true spiritual authority.
When we seduce ourselves, pride reinforces itself and it becomes a vicious circle.
The afflicted one becomes unteachable, judgmental and usually seeks to
control others with an attitude of possessiveness. It is a downward spiral
for when you become unteachable, you have moved to the place where very little
help is available.
This spirit produces a hardness of heart in people (verse 24) making it even more
difficult to bring those being used by this spirit to the repentance they need.
Please, if you feel that you have this problem of a stony heart, do not get
discouraged thinking that deliverance is impossible for God has promised to
those who surrender to him:

Ezekiel 11:18 And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the
detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof from thence.
Ezekiel 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new
spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh,
and will give them an heart of flesh:
Ezekiel 36:25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall
be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I
cleanse you.
Ezekiel 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I
put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your
flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put my spirit within you...
Ezekiel 36:29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses:
But if you should choose to keep your stony heart rather then to let God cleans
you, this is his message to you:
Ezekiel 11:21 But as for them whose heart walketh after the heart of their
detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense their way
upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.

 Mocking
This is a mocking spirit, and uses mockery as one way of attacking others.
It will mock those who walking in obedience to the Lord or who disagree with
them, so important to them are their own opinions.
Not only do people become hard-hearted under its influence, they become thick-
skinned in the wrong sense. The truth bounces off them!
Because of its deceptive nature, those under its influence can mistake its voice to
be from God. Typical phrases that are used by those under its influence are: "The
Lord said to me..." and "I felt in my spirit..." But when you check out what
is said it does not tie in with either the scriptures or the way in which
the Holy Spirit leads people. Remember that its intention is to encourage
people to break covenant and to bring division into the church. It
opposes covenant and wants people to excuse themselves from
contracts and other commitments.
Confusion (the "Twisted Serpent") Miscommunication
Leviathan attacks God's word
and hides revelation and understanding
Job 42: 3 and 5 "Who is this that hideth counsel without knowledge?" Or in the
amplified: "who is this who darkens or obscures counsel without knowledge?"
Or, as in another translation: "who is this who seals up counsel?"
In Job 42: 3,5 Job also declares "Therefore have I uttered that which I
understood not....I had heard of thee by the hearing of the ear, but now mine
eye seeth thee:"
In the midst of all his troubles, after Job listens to his friends and tries to
understand why he is experiencing such deep trials. God has a lengthy discussion
with him. He releases inside information about Leviathan (Job 41). After this, Job
speaks with God and he brings something to God's remembrance: "(God) You
asked, 'Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?" (Job
42:3a). "Who is this who darkens or obscures counsel without
knowledge?" Or, as in another translation: "Who is this who seals up
counsel?" He (Job) came to realize that counsel and true understanding
were kept from him and hidden from him so he declares why he spoke to
God the way that he did: "Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me, which I did not know" (v.3b).
I believe that the "who is this" was the spirit of Leviathan, trying to keep
Job from the true counsel of the Lord and hiding from Job his own small areas of
pride and self-righteousness in his life. We see in Job 42 that Job is no longer the
one who justifies himself, but instead, he confesses that he has not really known
God by revelation. "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my
eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes" (v.5-6).

Word-twisting is central to Leviathan’s operation.
David complained of his enemies, "They are always twisting what I say…" (Ps.
56:5, NLT). The serpent defeated Eve by twisting God’s words and casting
doubt, mistrust and suspicion. "Did God really mean that? You won’t die if
you eat of the tree…" (See Genesis 3:4-5). Adam and Eve were quickly
divided from God and each other, and the fallout was devastating.
This Leviathan spirit will hide the meaning behind what is said and cause
there to be miscommunication and misunderstanding. That's how this
spirit can sow discord among brethren. Have you ever had something you
said taken the wrong way, someone will say, "you said this" and you say no "I said
this" and you both think your right, or you say one thing and they hear it as
another. Leviathan wants to get in between your conversation and hearing and
distort or mutter what one is really saying. This can happen between friends,
ministry and even children and parents. This is definitely a spirit of
deception. It is this twisting of the truth that makes it a difficult spirit to deal
with. Job experienced the work of this spirit in the test that Satan brought against
him. ..we must understand that Leviathan .. is a very formidable foe." Any hope
of subduing him is false; the mere sight of him is overpowering."
You cannot enter in covenant with this spirit (v. 4). It encourages people to break
covenant by encouraging those under its influence to leave churches. It can
destroy marriages and break up friendships.
You cannot reason with this spirit because it blinds people to the truth. In fact
those under its influence can be so deceived that they do not appreciate that they
are deceived or are twisting the truth.
This spirit can only be overcome through the supernatural activity of God's Spirit,
not by any human means.
All these examples of twisting the truth are the work of the spirit of confusion.
Confusion is the spirit that sets itself against God’s purpose in our lives.
When you become aware of this attack on your ministry or in your relationships it
is important to simply say "leviathan I bind you in Jesus name"
Once confusion is cast out, clarity comes. The mind can think, the
mouth can speak. A lot of the time, we cannot retain the Word
because of that spirit.
1st Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as
in all churches of the saints.
nd
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and
of love, and of a sound mind.
James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that
wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
What is not of faith is sin. Confusion is sin.
We need to ask God to open our eyes to see anything that may be hidden in our
life in the areas of pride or self-righteousness and ask for the spirit of wisdom and
revelation.

Perfectionist
Shame follows after pride (Proverbs 11:2); pride brings contention and breeds
quarrels (Proverbs 13:10). If you're a quarreler, contentious, always arguing with
people, your problem is pride and leviathan. Pride brings a man low (Proverbs
29:23); pride defiles a man (Mark 7:22).
Pride is our biggest area of blindness. It can be right before us and we
will fail to see it or to call it pride. It is rooted in rejection and rebellion.
We react to rejection with perfectionism and as we become "perfect," we
achieve the carnal goals of having things just as we want them. We develop an
exaggerated opinion of ourselves, vanity follows, with excessive pride.
Pride may even hide itself under a false humility, putting oneself down,
thinking that is humbleness, or believing we are doing everything just right. Ego
also rises up when we become hyper-self conscious. Self awareness leads to
intolerance of others because they are not as perfect as we are. In comes a critical
spirit as Satan works to load us with demons. We become frustrated and
impatient because everyone is not as we want them to be. It is frustrating for we
can not change them to suit ourselves.
Because a person who is a perfectionist is still aware of his own personal
flaws and problems, he is miserable. He sees his problems and cannot solve
them, therefore he begins to project them onto other people. He will talk about
and accuse others (Only by pride cometh contention. Proverbs 13:10).
Because other people are so messed up, this justifies his becoming disobedient
and anti-submissive or rebellious. This happen in the marriage when the
husband does not submit to Christ his head, or the wife will not submit to her
husband or the children to their parents. This is the line of authority that
God gave us in Eph 4, and when we choose to fall out of line, we can be sure
that the spirit of leviathan is in the mix. If we do not recognize it and deal with it
immediately, trouble is on the horizon. The wife might think that her husband
just won't straighten up so she must take over. He will not be the priest of the
house or pray or study therefore she must take charge or manipulate things
because as he is not perfected yet. Remember, this is what Rebekah did with
Isaac concerning the birthright between Esau and Jacob. It tore their family apart
and Rebekah suffered greatly as she never saw her son Jacob again.
We must stop trying to create our spouse into the image of our own
making, instead of letting God create them in His image. If we succeed,
we will only have a monster on our hands. It is better to leave them alone and let
God create them in His image. Deep inside, the perfectionist believes that nobody
can or should be trusted, not even God, because sometimes even he misses the
mark.
When God does not seem to answer your prayers, you wonder why He messed
up. After all, you had every right to have that prayer answered, the Word says so.
"Why didn't You answer my prayer God?" If you got in your prayer closet and
became honest, that is what some of you would have to talk about. This stands
between you and everything else and will keep you from getting deliverance. If

you cannot even trust God, who can you trust?
When one is a perfectionist, in comes self-will, as you become your own source
of authority. You will be selfish and stubborn, caught in a proud snare
(Psalms 31:20). Self-deception deceives, defrauds and misleads a
person about himself. Self-seduction means to tempt, decoy or mislead into
something wrong or evil.
There is little success with unteachable people. The critical time comes when
one's ultimate confidence in God as the object and source shifts to oneself as the
object and source. God must be our source and the object of all we want. When
such a shift takes place and I become the source, then I become legalistic: "If I
don't do this or that," it's not going to be right.
Individually, we have power over leviathan. We do not have to allow this to
happen. You show me any church in the land that is moving on with God; there
will be many problems in that church. I do not care if it is at the top, middle or
bottom; there are problems in every group. God is teaching us some
warfare. WE ARE NOT TO WAR AGAINST ONE ANOTHER. We are
not fighting each other, but we are fighting principalities and powers.
When pain and loss pierce us, wounds can settle in our souls. The enemy plays off
of these wounds and creates separations in our families, churches and networks.
He twists words, distorts intentions, and prompts us to react out of pain instead
of love. The result is always a train wreck.

Pride is the problem. When we justify ourselves, pride hardens our heart
and deceives us (1st John 1:8). If we buy the lie that we have no sin, the twisting
has already begun, division has taken hold, and we never saw it coming.
Leviathan can only be defeated if we walk in humility.
When we let the Lord reveal our pride, we can turn and be
free. Humility creates an atmosphere around our lives that is toxic to
separation. Leviathan can’t breathe the oxygen of grace. If we refuse pride,
even when we hurt, the spirit of separation will be starved out of our lives.
When Job realized the truth about his situation, he repented (Job 42:6). He
humbled himself before God! And when God told him to pray for his friends,
I don't think he could have done that unless he had forgiven them for their
misdeeds. I believe Job's attitude of heart pleased the Lord deeply and so God
responded by restoring Job's fortunes two-fold (verses 10-17).

You know, we can humble ourselves, repent and forgive just like Job
did. Repentance and forgiveness are essential if we desire to have a clean
heart and victory over all the wicked schemes of leviathan.
Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD
require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with thy God?

When this enemy is exposed for what it is and we repent for coming under its
influence, there is nothing to fear from Leviathan because our faith is in the
victory that the Lord Jesus Christ has already won over all the powers of the evil,
the victory that is ours through His blood!
The good news is that Jesus is both the Answer and the Deliverer. We know there
is no condemnation in Christ Jesus and we thank the Lord for the spirit of
conviction.
The time is coming when, I believe, that one of the manifestations of Satan will
be as a "great red dragon" (Revelation 12). This dragon is going to wage war with
those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus (v.
17). God is uniting his people into a mighty army to present a
united front before the enemy. Let's get strengthened and
prepared now at this set time! There's grace from God for this right here
and now!
"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way
everlasting.” Psalms 139:23, 24
*** “Young and old, God is now testing you. You are deciding your own eternal
destiny. Your pride, your love to follow the fashions of the world, your
vain and empty conversation, your selfishness, are all put in the scale,
and the weight of evil is fearfully against you.” {Testimonies to the Church Vol. 1

*** “God does not regard all sins as of equal magnitude; there are degrees of guilt
in His estimation, as well as in that of man; but however trifling this or that
wrong act may seem in the eyes of men, no sin is small in the sight of God. Man's
judgment is partial, imperfect; but God estimates all things as they really are. The
drunkard is despised and is told that his sin will exclude him from heaven;
while pride, selfishness, and covetousness too often go
unrebuked. But these are sins that are especially offensive to God; for they
are contrary to the benevolence of His character, to that unselfish love which is
the very atmosphere of the unfallen universe. He who falls into some of the
grosser sins may feel a sense of his shame and poverty and his need of the grace
of Christ; but pride feels no need, and so it closes the heart
against Christ and the infinite blessings He came to give.”

*** “Parents, it is easier for you to teach your children a lesson of pride
than a lesson of humility. Satan and his angels stand by your side to make a
word or an act on your part effectual to encourage them to dress, and to mingle
with society that is not holy. You thus plant in your own bosoms a thorn that will
often pierce you and cause anguish. When you would counteract the sad lesson
you have taught your children, you will find it a hard thing to do. You may deny
them things that would gratify their pride; yet pride will live in the heart,

longing to be satisfied, and nothing can kill it but the quick and
powerful Spirit of God. When this finds its way to the heart, it will
work like leaven, and transform the character. All love of dress and pride
of appearance will be eradicated. There will be no place for love of
adornment in the sanctified heart.” {Review and Herald, September 2,
1884 par. 8}

*** “Can anyone think it possible that pride can exist in the heart and yet that
heart have a place in the kingdom of God? It was pride that caused the fall of
Satan. His heart was lifted up because of his beauty. All his wisdom and glory
were the gift of God; but the very gift bestowed by the generous love of God was
perverted to wrong use in exalting himself, as if his glorious endowments were
something that he himself had originated. At that time no pride had been before
manifested, and the results of evil had not been made manifest. Pride will never
be admitted into heaven. Can we cherish envy in our hearts and yet be found in
the kingdom of God?--No; envy cannot be transplanted into the kingdom of God.
Satan originated this terrible evil, and its result was that Satan desired and
sought to take the place of the only-begotten Son of God. It was because he could
not have the place of Christ that Satan revolted in heaven.” {Signs of the Times,

*** “Heart burnings, unhappiness, result where unlawful yearnings are cherished
for the place and position of another. He who is full of envy looks upon the one he
envies with dislike and seeks to show himself superior to his rival; unless he sees
and repents of his sin, he will grudge against the one he envies, and all love of
Christ will die out of his heart. Can one who cherishes envy be permitted to enter
into the kingdom of heaven?--No; for envy brings evil surmisings, deception,
pride, accusations, and enmity, and all these have been expelled from heaven.
Unless we are divested of all that is evil, we shall not enter into the kingdom of
God, but will find ourselves shut out of its gates.” {Signs of the Times, February 5,

*** “What is it that will gain us an entrance into the kingdom of God?--A
character after the likeness of that of Jesus Christ. The Lord God has given to the
world all opportunity, all privilege, the grace of the Holy Spirit, the gift of Jesus
Christ, in order that we might have a character like that of our Lord, and find
abundant entrance into the kingdom of God. Christ's mission to the world made
it evident that the human race was standing under the menace of incensed
justice, on the verge of eternal ruin, in helplessness and ignorance. To our help
Jesus came, bringing the fullest assurance of relief. What has the Father done?--
"God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” {Signs of the Times,

*** “I saw that angels were frequently in the office, in the folding room, and in the
room where the type is set. I was made to hear the laughing, the jesting, the idle,
foolish talking. Again, I saw the vanity, the pride and selfishness exhibited.

Angels looked sad and turned away grieved. The words I had heard, the vanity,
pride, and selfishness exhibited, caused me to groan with anguish of spirit as
angels left the room in disgust. Said an angel: "The heavenly messengers came to
bless, that the truth carried by the voiceless preachers might have a sanctifying,
holy power to attend its mission; but those engaged in this work were so distant
from God, they possessed so little of the divine, and were so conformed to the
spirit of the world, that the powers of darkness controlled them, and they could
not be made susceptible of divine impressions." At the same time these youth
were deceived and thought they were rich and increased in goods and had need of
nothing, and knew not that they were poor and miserable, blind and naked.
Those who handle precious truth as they would sand know not how many times
their heartless indifference to eternal things, their vanity, self-love, and pride,
their laughing and senseless chatting, have driven the messengers of heaven away

*** “You and your sister P have had a great amount of pride, which will be as
stubble in the day of God. Self-love and self-pride, pride of dress and appearance,
have prevailed. Selfishness has kept you from good. You both must have a
thorough conversion, a thorough renewing of the mind, a thorough
transformation, or you will have no part in the kingdom of God. Your appearance,
your good looks, your dress, will not bring you into favor with God. It is moral
worth that the great I AM notices. There is no real beauty of person or of
character out of Christ, no real perfection of manners or deportment without the
sanctifying graces of the spirit of humility, sympathy, and true holiness.”

*** “The scribes and Pharisees prided themselves upon the idea that they were
God's chosen people, and they were filled with self-righteousness. "Christ came
unto His own, and His own received Him not." He did not flatter the Pharisees or
exalt them in any way. He received the publicans and sinners whom the Jews
heartily despised, and because His lessons of humility, compassion, and love
rebuked their selfishness and pride, they would none of Him, but turned from
Him in scorn. They made great ostentation, wore long robes, and stood praying
on the corners of the streets, but none of these pretensions to piety awed the
great Teacher or drew from Him one word of approval. They flattered themselves,
but He did not flatter them. The teaching of Christ was against all vanity and
pride, for these were abhorrent to the Most High. It is the humble and the
contrite whose prayers are heard in heaven. The Lord declares that He knoweth
the proud afar off. He says, "To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and
of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word.” {Signs of the Times, May 24,

*** “All the sins and excesses of Solomon can be traced to his great mistake in
ceasing to rely upon God for wisdom, and to walk in humility before him.
Therefore he went not on from strength to strength, rising higher and higher in
the perfection of an elevated character, but soon became the prey of temptation
and carnal desires. In the careless life which he entered upon, the blessings which

God bestowed upon him were not improved to His glory, but were used to
promote himself to an unexampled pinnacle of earthly grandeur. He surrendered
the reins of self-control, laying them upon the neck of degrading passions. His
conscience was violated, his manhood perverted, and his moral powers debased.
Gifted with wondrous genius and fortune, he nevertheless lost his God and his
happiness, and degenerated into the most miserable of men.” {Health Reformer,

*** “Whenever pride and ambition are indulged, the life is marred, for pride,
feeling no need, closes the heart against the infinite blessings of Heaven. He who
makes self-glorification his aim will find himself destitute of the grace of God,
through whose efficiency the truest riches and the most satisfying joys are won.
But he who gives all and does all for Christ will know the fulfillment of the
promise, "The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with
it." Proverbs 10:22. With the gentle touch of grace the Saviour banishes from the
soul unrest and unholy ambition, changing enmity to love and unbelief to
confidence. When He speaks to the soul, saying, "Follow Me," the spell of the
world's enchantment is broken. At the sound of His voice the spirit of greed and
ambition flees from the heart, and men arise, emancipated, to follow Him.”

*** “John rebuked their selfish pride and avarice. He warned them of their
unbelief, and condemned their hypocrisy. He told them that they had not fulfilled
the conditions of the covenant on their part, which would entitle them to the
promises God made to a faithful and obedient people. Their proud boasts of being
children of Abraham did not make them really such. Their exhibitions of pride,
their arrogance, jealousy, selfishness, and cruelty, stamped their characters as a
generation of vipers, rather than the children of obedient and just Abraham.
Their wicked works had disqualified them to claim the promises God made to the
children of Abraham. John assured them that God would raise up children unto
Abraham from the very stones, to whom he could fulfill his promise, rather than
to depend on the natural children of Abraham who had neglected the light God
had given them, and had become hardened by selfish ambition and wicked
unbelief. He told them that if they were really the children of Abraham, they
would do the works of their father Abraham. They would have Abraham's faith,
love, and obedience. But they did not bear this fruit. They had no claim to
Abraham as their father, or the promises God made to the seed of Abraham.
"Every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the
fire." While they were professing to be God's commandment keeping people, their
works denied their faith, and without true repentance for their sins they would
have no part in the kingdom of Christ. Justice, benevolence, mercy, and the love
of God would characterize the lives of his commandment-keeping people. Unless
these fruits were seen in their daily life, all their profession was of no more value
than chaff which would be devoted to the fire of destruction.” {Review and

*** “A work is before us to subdue pride and vanity, that seek a place in our
hearts, and through penitence and faith to bring ourselves into familiar and holy
converse with Jesus Christ. We must not shrink from the depths of humiliation to
which the Son of God submitted in order to raise us from the degradation and
bondage of sin to a seat at his right hand. We must deny self, and fight
continually against pride. We must hide self in Jesus Christ, and let him appear
in our conversation and character as the One altogether lovely, and the chief
among ten thousand. Our lives, our deportment, will testify how highly we prize
Christ, and the salvation he has wrought out for us at such a cost to himself.
While we look constantly to Him whom our sins have pierced, and our sorrows
have burdened, we shall acquire strength to be like him. We shall bind ourselves
in willing, happy, captivity to Jesus Christ. It is high time we devoted the few
remaining precious hours of our probation to washing our robes of character, and
making them white in the blood of the Lamb, that we may be of that white-robed
company who shall stand about the great white throne.” {Review and Herald,

*** “All pride of opinion and dependence upon the wisdom of this world is
unprofitable and vain. When men, instead of humbly receiving the truth of God
in whatever way it may be sent to them, begin to criticize the words and manners
of the messenger, they are manifesting their lack of spiritual perception, and their
want of appreciation for the truth of God, which is of vastly more importance
than the most cultured and pleasing discourse. One critical speech, disparaging
the messenger of God, may start a train of unbelief in some mind that will result
in making of none effect the word of truth. Those who have a constant struggle to
cherish humility and faith, are far from being benefited by this course. Anything
like pride in learning, and dependence upon scientific knowledge, which you
place between your soul and the word of the Bible, will most effectually close the
door of your heart to the sweet, humble religion of the meek and lowly Jesus.”

*** “Man's pride would lead him to seek for salvation in some other way than that
devised by God. He is unwilling to be accounted as nothing, unwilling to
recognize Christ as the only One who can save to the uttermost. To this pride
Satan appealed in the temptation that he brought to our first parents. "Ye shall

*** “God hates pride; "and all the proud, and all that do wickedly,
shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up." The
third angel's message must yet work like leaven upon the hearts of many that
profess to believe it; pride, selfishness, covetousness, and love of the world must
be subdued. Jesus is soon coming; and he will acknowledge as his none but those
who have been purified and made white, and who have kept themselves separate,
unspotted from the world.” {Review and Herald, September 9, 1884 par. 5}

The ax must be laid at the root of the tree. Pride and worldliness should
not be suffered in the church. It is these things that separate God from his
people. They have been asleep to the pride and conformity to the world which exist in
the very midst of the church. Pride, covetousness, selfishness, and love of the
world, are constantly increasing. The external appearance is an index to
the heart.

God's people must have

unity and love.
Ephesians Chapter 4
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the
vocation wherewith ye are called,
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in
love;
3 Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your
calling;
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and
some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of
the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of
God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of
Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about
with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness,
whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the
head, even Christ:
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that
which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure
of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as
other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life
of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the
blindness of their heart:
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to
work all uncleanness with greediness.
20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in

22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is
corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness
and true holiness.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for
we are members one of another.
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27 Neither give place to the devil.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his
hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is
good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be
put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as
God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
