XPAC is designed to be installed on a local hard disk. It has not been designed for the application to be
installed on a network/shared drive.
To install XPAC:
1. Insert the XPAC Installation CD into your CD drive.
2. Either:
a. The installation starts in a few moments if your CD drive has AutoRun (auto insert
notification) enabled; or
b. If the AutoPlay dialog displays, click Run RungeAutoRun.exe; or
c. Open Windows Explorer, find the CD drive and double-click Run RungeAutoRun.exe
file in the Installer folder.
3. Click Install XPAC.
4. Follow the prompts for the installation procedure.

3 XPAC system directory

XPAC installs into the ...\RPM Software\XPAC 7.13 folder (usually under the Program Files folder).
As part of the installation, sample models are also copied to the ...\RPM Software\XPAC
7.13\Sample Projects folder as zip files. These models will be unzipped and extracted to the user's
document directory, for example, ...\Documents\XPAC 7.13\Sample Projects folder when you run
XPAC for the first time.

4 Hardware dongle
If you have been supplied with a single-user registration file, a hardware key (called a dongle) is
provided. You must ensure that it is plugged securely into the USB port of your computer before
starting the program.
If the dongle is not recognised by your computer, the Sentinel Key driver must also be installed
before you can use the dongle.
To install the driver on your computer, either:
 From the XPAC installation screen, click Install Extras > Install Sentinel Driver; or
 Open Windows Explorer, find the CD drive and double-click the Sentinel Protection
Installer7.6.4.exe file in the SystemUpdate\Sentinel folder.
Note: The software will regularly check for the hardware key while you are running XPAC, so the
dongle must remain in the port at all times.

5 Licensing
XPAC uses the License Management System (LMS) to manage the licenses on each computer.
Single-user licenses are managed by the Client License Manager (CLM), which is automatically
installed by the XPAC installer. Select Start > All Programs > Runge Software > Client License

Manager to open CLM. Refer to the CLM Help file for information on installing and managing single-
user licenses.
Network licenses include both a server, Server License Manager (SLM) and a client, Client License
Manager (CLM) component. The server component SLM is supplied on a separate CD to be installed
and configured by a network administrator. Once the server component SLM is configured, the client
can connect to the server to obtain a license using Client License Manager. Select Start > All
Programs > Runge Software > Client License Manager to open CLM. Refer to the CLM Help file for
information on floating licenses.

6 Running XPAC
Note: If you are using a network license, you will need to be connected to the server the first time
you run XPAC.
To start XPAC, either:
 Double-click the XPAC.exe file in the ...\RPM Software\XPAC 7.13 folder; or
 Select Start > All Programs > RPM Software > XPAC 7.13.
