I. Competencies:
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
1. Identify the different parts of the Solar System.
2. Appreciate by describing the characteristics of each members.
3. Pointing out the different members of the Solar System.

II. Subject Matter:

The Solar System
Reference: The Amazing World of Science 2 pp.261-262
By: Marites F. Bermejo

Materials:
Model or picture of Solar System
Valuing: Unity and Obedience

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
1. Preliminaries

a. Greetings
“Good Morning Class” “Good Morning Sir”

b. Prayer
“Okay class!! Let us pray. (Everyone will pray)

c. Checking of Attendance
“Okay class! Let us check first your
attendance. Who is absent today?” (The pupils will answer who is absent in the
class.)
d. Review
“Okay class! Let us have a quick
review of yesterday’s lesson. Who
can recall the topic that we’ve
discussed last meeting?” (Someone raises his/her hand.)

(The teacher called one learner.)

Alright! Let me hear it from you. Go on! (Our topic last meeting was about Stars’
colors and temperature.)

What is the color of the hottest stars? The color of the hottest stars blue.

And the coolest stars are? Color red!

“Very good! Let us give him an Angel Clap.

2. Motivation
(Show a picture of the planet Earth.)

“Class what picture is on the board?” “Hmm, I guess that is a planet Earth.”

Very good!

“As you look closer, what have you “Sir, we have observed that there are different
observed?” colors on it.”

“Very good!”
“Now class, do you know what planet are we (The pupils have different answers and most
living?” of them are predicting what it is.)

“It is planet Mars.”

“Maybe Saturn.”
“It is planet Earth.”

3. Lesson Proper
B.Discussion “Sir a Solar System is composed of different
(Show a picture of the Solar System.) planets.”

“There are eight planets sir.”

“These are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars,

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.”

“So now, anyone has an idea about the Solar

System?”
“In the planet Earth sir.”
“Wow! Excellent! You have a good idea.”

“Anyway, How many planets are there in the “Because it has oxygen, water etc.”
Solar System?”

“Very good!”
“Our Solar System’s star is called Sun.”
“Who can name the different planets? Anyone
would like to try?”

“Wow! That’s nice!”

“It gives us light and heat.”
“And we are living in what planet?”

“Because it is the closest to the Earth that’s

“Why are we able to live in this planet class?” why it look so bright!”

“Our Solar System has only one star. What do

you call that star?”

“Our sun is also our main source of energy. “These are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars!”
What else does it give us?”

“The Sun has only average brightness, but why
do you think it looks so bright when we look at
it?”
“Very good! That is also the reason why it Sir, the outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn,
looks so big, because it is closer to us Uranus and Neptune.”
compared to other stars.”

“There are four planets closest to the Sun.

What are these four planets?”

“Excellent! These four planets that are close to

the sun are called the inner planets.
Meanwhile, there are also four planets that are
very far from the Sun. And these are called
outer planets. “

Who has any idea what are these outer

planets?”

4. Activity:

Divide the class into two and let them

identify the following words using the
clues given.

1. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars Inner planets

belong to the _N_ER P _AN_TS.

2. The nearest star to the planet Earth is Sun

called the _ _N.

3. Our Sun has _V_R_ _E brightness. Average

4. The only planet that can sustain life is Earth

called _ A_T_.

5. _U_IT_R is an example of an outer Jupiter

planet.

4.1 Analysis:

5. Application:

Label the following parts of the Solar System.

8 1.Mercury
7
2.Venus
6
3.Earth
5
4 4.Mars
3
5.Jupiter
2
1
6.Saturn

7.Uranus

8.Neptune
Abstraction:

“What do you think will happen If the sun is so

close to the Earth?”

“If you were to live in another planet aside If the Sun was so close to the Earth, it would
from the Earth, which planet will you live?” be too hot and life would not exist.”

“I will live in Mars because NASA said there

is a chance to live there.”

“I choose Venus because it is near to planet

Earth.”
Generalization:

“Now class, how many planets are there in our

Solar System?’

“What are the names of these planets?” “There are eight planets in our Solar System.”

“These are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars,

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.”
“What planet is farthest to the sun?”
“Neptune is the farthest planet to the Sun.”

“What are the two groups of planets?’ “The two groups of planets are Inner and
Outer.”

IV. Evaluation
Direction: Write the letter of the correct
answer on the line provided.

1. It is the family of the Sun.

V. Assignment
Read in advance the Galaxies and answer the
following questions on page 264.
“What is a galaxy?”
“What galaxy are we belong?”

“Okay, that is all for today.”

“Goodbye and thank you Sir. Goodbye and

“See you next meeting.” thank you everybody.”

“Goodbye class!”
