La unidad en el párrafo es la característica más importante de un buen párrafo. Define que todas
las oraciones en un párrafo deberían tratar sobre un solo tema. Es decir, la oración tópico, los
detalles de apoyo (ideas secundarias), y la oración de conclusión deberán enfocarse en una sola
idea. Los párrafo subsiguientes también deberían ser coherentes. La coherencia demanda que las
oraciones presentadas en un párrafo debería fluir sin sobresaltos entre una y otra, para ello, los
autores utilizan palabras conectoras o de transición que comparan, contrastan, ilustran, añaden o
muestran causa y efecto para construir puentes lógicos entre las oraciones.
Analicemos la unidad y coherencia de un modelo de párrafo:
THE HUMAN BODY
(1) The human body is a wonderful piece of work that nature has created. (2) It is not beautiful like
