DIRECTING

 Refers to the way and means employed by management to encourage all personnel in
the business firm to accomplish all assignments given to them.

 It is the human, People-to people aspect of managing by which subordinates are


motivated, persuaded, and led to effectively and efficiently contribute towards
realizing the very reasons for which the enterprise or the company has been
established

 In order to attain the objectives of Directing in the right manner, they were PLANNED
and ORGANIZED.

 This management is sometimes referred to as influencing, actuating, guiding or simply


leading or motivating. Unlike the other managerial functions which involve analytical
skills, directing, being concerned with influencing human beings, uses largely a
manager’s interpersonal and relational.

CONCEPT OF DIRECTING

 DIRECTING is the PROCESS of initiating action in accordance with what has been
PLANNED.

 DIRECTING is performed by the top level management to its subordinate.

 DIRECTING is the PROCESS of guiding, instructing, motivating, leading, and influencing


subordinates to attain goals or objectives effectively and efficiently.

IMPORTANCE OF DIRECTING:

 Organizations function through the continuous inter-communication and interaction


among its members. Directing can therefore be looked upon as the process through
which the manager energizes the organization into action, much like electricity
activates an electricfan. Directing is very closely linked with leadership role of a
manager. Since managers do not perform all the activities they are responsible for but
instead achieve results through other people, leadership ability is an important
managerial skill which is manifested largely in the manner a manager interacts with his
subordinates and directs their activities from day to day.

DIRECTING ACCORDING TO:

“ Directing consists of the processes and techniques utilized in issuing instructions and making
certain that operations are carried on as originally planned.” – Haimann

 Haimann emphasized the directing as a process which is planned beforehand,


The top level management, which is the one who exercised directing used
directing as a technique to issue instructions to his subordinates to achieve the
goals of the organization. In directing, you can also check the progress, the
quality and the way how the subordinates worked the assigned tasks, that must
be alligned to what is originally planned.
