Summary Comments:

Nathan performed the duties of ‘tutor’ to an exceptional level. He was able to demonstrate the ability to liaise with the teaching
staff in order to understand individual student learning needs and identified faculty issues relating to student writing. Nathan
was able to then employ this knowledge when tutoring BHS students.

Examples of ‘stage 6 tutoring’ performed by Nathan include paragraph and essay structure (PEEL/CEEL and ALARM);
responding to preliminary/HSC exam questions e.g. short and extended response; verb analysis and application (decoding
essay/exam questions); Syllabus analysis i.e. dot points, verb usage, requirements; preparing revision sequences; revision
techniques using concept maps, lotus diagrams, use of palm/question cards.

Examples of stage 4/5 tutoring included participation in MULTILIT roll call; assisting students with identified learning support
requirements – disability provisions; assisting with research for assignments.

Nathan offered insightful observations about the necessity to include modeled reading and writing practice into day to day
teaching of students in a classroom situation. Thus the program offered Nathan the opportunity to reflect on his future teaching
practice. The LAST and teachers’ aides at BHS where appreciative of Nathan’s assistance, making very complimentary comments
about his attitude and manner.
