• Inclusion of the effects due to vertical earthquake
shaking Cl: 6.3.3 ~ 6.3.4 of IS 1893-2016 – Part 1.

elements for minimize the high shear stresses in the shear
walls.

• To arrest the gigantic variations in the shear walls I worked
out a methodology for reducing the Vb base shear
consideration, such as , As per 1893-2016 (part-1) clause
7.6.3 & page 21 & 22 | (5B picture) consideration, whereas
Vb base shear consideration is required from the Ground
floor not from the Base of the foundation. resultant story
responses base shear reduces by nearly 45%,
• Controlled the maximum displacement in SPEC-X, it has
been arrived as 130mm, whereas West wing maximum
displacement in SPEC-X as 28.1mm & East wing maximum
displacement in SPEC-X as 20.2mm. (As per Cl. 7.11.1.2 of IS
1893:2016 (1), the deflections are to be checked for
unscaled - unfactored lateral forces)
• Achieved the Final DBR is inline with above technical
aspects & other many coordinated synchronization points
with multidiscipline co-ordination and synchronization with
other departments to achieve the building performance and
stipulated codal requirements.
• Frozen the ETAB & SAFE models, layouts and more than 90-
95% finish up the tender drawings as well as hold good for
authority approval submissions.

Introduction
• A brief summary of approaches adopted for the structural analysis and
design of the new ANVP Factory Core Facilities like IRIS Block,
Management D & E Block, Hanger Blocks, Other facilities like Canteen
Block, Security Block, HVAC & DG Block, Car Parking & Gate complex etc.
The project brief requires that the structure/s be built as RC framed
structure with monolithic post-tensioned slabs and beams. As alternate
option /s recommended as Structural Steel with Deck slab systems for
Hanger Blocks & IRIS Block (Clean Rooms).
• In order to predict accurate structural behaviour, the Facilities shall be
analysed using STAAD / ETABS, by considering accurate geometric
dimensions, relevant modelling parameters and loading.
• Further, the foundations shall be analysed and designed using SAFE or
in-house programs, as applicable.

 Structural systems
 The Core facilities (IRIS Block) has been strategically planned such that it is divided
into few wings by means of expansion joints. This has been done in order to achieve
good structural performance under lateral forces. The main framing system is the
beam-column frame which acts as the gravity load resisting system. The slabs are
regular monolithic RC members where spans are not very large. However, when
spans are very large, it is proposed to employ monolithic post-tensioned slabs and
beams using partial prestressing technique.
 Bi-axial prestressing shall be applied to slabs /beams wherever necessary. Since the
structure is located in seismic zone 3, it is necessary to avoid all forms of brittle
failure modes. Punching failure which can occur in a post-tensioned slab is a brittle
mode of failure and in order to comply with the latest seismic code, it is therefore
necessary to provide beams connecting all columns in at least one direction.

 Structural Design
 All RC structures shall be designed and detailed using the limit states method as
specified in IS 456-2000 and IS 13920-2016. STAAD / ETABS, SAFE, in-house design
programs shall be used to carry out the design work. Wherever the Indian codes are
silent or not clear, international codes shall be referred. Water retaining structures
shall also be designed as per the limit states method.

 Drifts and deflection limits


 The storey drift in any storey due to the minimum specified design lateral force
arrived with fundamental time period, with factor of 1.0, shall not exceed 0.004
times the storey height. The deflection at the top shall be limited to h/250 for
earthquake forces and h/500 for wind forces
