Summary Report
Internship is an opportunity which provide great chance to relate the theoretical
knowledge to practical. An internship provides the opportunity for a student or young
professional to work alongside regular staff in a workplace, to gain some basic hands-
on experience and educational/professional insight into a career path
The universities internship program as a course module has allowed me to get an intern
ship in a renowned company. Following with the series of joining procedure. During
the selectin procedure I get to learn different aspect of experience apart from the
academic course. After getting selected as an intern it was difficult for managing the
time, schedule as a professional however as the period lasted I started to feel the sense
of responsibility, duty and professionalism. Being a part of an IT student it was difficult
for me to understand the business process which was the most difficult part during the
internship span but with the dedicated and friendly environment I got familiar to the
business aspect as well. Joining as an inexperienced student but coming out as a
professional has changed the way I do activities in day to day life. I also learned new
technical parts of routing, switching and configuring in real life that has boosted my
confidence to work in real life.
The completion of the internship program was obvious. The report portrays the overall
internship activities and experience. I consider myself lucky to get an opportunity to
complete my industrial placement at renowned company ROyals IT, being a student of
B.sc.IT, leading and organized information technology company. During the internship
period I learn about the tools, technology used in the real work environment.

Company has taken huge steps towards the upgrade in its hardware and software.
Sometimes, it is also necessary to import technology from outside the country too for
achieving the goals and mission of the company.
Competitors among the same field has established themselves as a strong competitor
not even being iso certified company. Standalone group also simply involve in
development process through which the delivery of quality products has been low that
has costed lots of customers trust to the IT company. Being a standard iso certified
company the cost are accordingly for which the client can’t cope because of past
involvement with other low standard organization.
The competitive environment within the working staff has positive influence over the
year. Nurturing the skills, they possess in all the field has allowed wide range of people
showing their interest of growing with the ROyals IT. The tuff competition is always
there some of the companies similar to ROyal’s has been providing good service to the
clients with advance resource and hardware upgrades they have done to match the rapid
changing scenarios. However, the company itself believe in growing with the

2 Technical Report
2.1 Introduction
At university, technical report writing is a frequently used assignment format in
faculties of engineering and in the applied sciences. This is because the assignment
tasks require students to draw theory and real world situations together, and to present
the information in a structured and accessible format; for example, engineering students
may be asked to solve a design problem or investigate and evaluate the solutions to an
environmental problem while Information Technology students might be asked to
develop a program or an information management plan for a specific issue or company
or to evaluate recent developments in the telecommunications industry. Learning how
to report on technical information to others is an important component of technical
studies. (unilearning, 2000)
The first step towards the intern is the life changing opportunity. Though different
organization has different procedure of internship ROyal’s IT has a bit different
approach. At first the main focus was time table and management. After some days they
gave me small task about networking devices research as well as physically getting
involved with it in training/practical department. The main idea was to research,
implement and supervised.
In the middle of the internship span I was given case scenarios of similar organizations
in which the company itself was linked with for the implementation of the networking
that also involves the physical security. I was deployed in different places as a helping
hand and observer to get familiar with the plans, methods, resource allocation and time
management.
1.1 Outline
Throughout the internship period different task were assigned by the supervisor some
of the task are related activity are listed below:

General guidance
During the start of internship, it was about the research on the topic of networking,
topologies, networking devices, network transmission media, network medium access
control, network control and diagrams. After the completion of research activity part,
they wanted to use the theoretical part to collaborate with practical guidance.
2.1.1 Networking
Networking refers to the total process of creating and using computer networks, with
respect to hardware, protocols and software, including wired and wireless technology.
It involves the application of theories from different technological fields, like IT,
computer science and computer/electrical engineering. (techopedia, 2018). The main
area of involvement was the networking area. The sub task is also discussed below.
Some of the activity involved in network trouble shooting are mentioned below:

1. Enable routing on the switch with the ip routing command. Even if IP routing
was previously enabled, this step ensures that it is activated. Switch(config)#ip
routing
2. Make note of the VLANs that you want to route between. In this example, you
want to route traffic between VLANs 2, 3 and 10.
3. Use the show vlan command in order to verify that the VLANs exist in the
VLAN database. If they do not exist, add them on the switch. This example
shows the addition of VLANs 2, 3, and 10 to the switch VLAN database

Switch#vlan database
Switch(vlan)#vlan 2
VLAN 2 added:
Name: VLAN0002
Switch(vlan)#vlan 3
VLAN 3 added:
Name: VLAN0003
Switch(vlan)#vlan 10
VLAN 10 added:
Name: VLAN0010
Switch(vlan)#exit

4. Determine the IP addresses you want to assign to the VLAN interface on the
switch. For the switch to be able to route between the VLANs, the VLAN
interfaces must be configured with an IP address. When the switch receives a
packet destined for another subnet/VLAN, the switch looks at the routing table
in order to determine where to forward the packet. The packet is then passed to
the VLAN interface of the destination. It is in turn sent to the port where the end
device is attached.
5. Configure the VLAN interfaces with the IP address identified in step
Switch#configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Switch(config)#interface Vlan2
Switch(config-if)#ip address 10.1.2.1 255.255.255.0
Switch(config-if)#no shutdown
6. Configure the interface to the default router. In this scenario you have a Layer
3 FastEthernet port.
7. Configure the default route for the switch.
8. Configure your end devices to use the respective Catalyst 3550 VLAN interface
as their default gateway. For example, devices in VLAN 2 should use the
