Method Statement: Construction of Manhole

d) Before construction of new manhole, the excavated area to be compacted and pour the
blinding concrete.
e) Form work shall be fixed in perfect alignment and true shape and dimensions of the
permanent work as per approved drawings.
f) All water shall be drained and pumped out of the form work
g) Specified minimum cover shall be provided to reinforcement, cover blocks will be made by using the
same grade of concrete of that structure.
h) Waterproofing will be applied on blinding.

8.2.2 Placing of concrete

a) Before commencing concrete work, approval of all arrangement shall be obtained from
consultant.
b) Concrete of approved grade shall be placed in its final position before initial setting has
commenced.
c) All concrete shall be placed within 60 minutes of mixing unless carried in transit mixers. In any
case a maximum time of 120 minutes from initial mix shall not be exceeded. Concrete
temperature will be controlled.
d) Slump and concrete cubes will be taken prior to cast concrete.
e) The method of discharge from the mixer will be in such a way that there will be no
segregation. The maximum falling height of concrete will be 1.5m.
f) Concrete shall be thoroughly compacted using mechanical vibrators and shall be thoroughly
worked around the reinforcement and into all corners of the shuttering. Contact of vibrator
with reinforcement shall be avoided.
g) Excess vibration, which causes segregation, shall be avoided.
h) Vibrator shall be drawn vertically in a manner to ensure that no air pockets are formed.

ultimate strength and durability of the concrete cast in site.
b) Freshly placed concrete shall be protected from rain, dust, storms and chemical attack.
c) Curing and protection shall start immediately after the compaction of the concrete by using
polythene sheet to avoid moisture loss from the concrete surface.
d) Then, further curing of concrete done by keeping the exposed surfaces thoroughly damp
(Hessian cloth) with water. If required Anti evaporation nylon sheet will be provided.
e) Exposed concrete surfaces shall be coated with an approved curing membrane applied
uniformly as soon as possible after finishing of horizontal or removal of form work.

request (WIR) will be submitted to consultant prior to start activity.

8.2.4 Precast cover slab construction

a) Fix the steel reinforcement for cover slab as per approved shop drawings and bar bending
schedule.
b) Support the outer formwork.
c) Clean the slab by air compressor.
d) After the inspection by Engineer and approval, start casting C40 concrete.
e) After 24 hours, start curing by using sweet water and hessian.
f) Chip the cover slab concrete surface which will receive frame concrete.
g) Fix the DI frame on slab and adjust the level on site as per final road profile and alignment.
h) Fix the outer approved shutter and support it carefully.
i) After 24 hours’ removal of the shutters, start curing by using sweet water and hessian.

a) Form work shall be fixed in perfect alignment and true shape and dimension of the structure
as per approved drawings.
b) Reinforcement steel will be used as per approved drawing.
c) Before any concrete is placed the formwork shall be thoroughly cleaned with air
pressure in order to remove saw dust, sand, wire cuttings.
d) Slump, temperature and cubes to be taken for testing.
e) Before commencing concrete work approval shall be obtained by consultant. Inspection
request will be submitted, for getting approval from consultant, prior to start an activity.
