Percakapan / DialogBahasa Inggris Meminta Pendapat / opini (Asking for and Giving
opinion) – Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, sering kali kita menghabiskan waktu dengan
mengobrol dengan orang lain, dan pastinya ada suatu kesempatan kita meminta pendapat
orang lain tentang sesuatu yang sedang kita bicarakan atau yang sedang menjadi trending
topic. Nah, dalam artikelkali ini, kita akan belajar tentang expressions of asking and giving
opinion, menyampaikan opini / pendapat, dan memberi komentar terhadap opini orang lain
Ada berbagai macam cara untuk meminta pendapat atau memberikan pendapat dalam
bahasa Inggris. Dalam table di bawah ini adalah beberapa contoh expressing asking and
giving opinion yang sering kali digunakan dalam meminta, menyampaikan, dan memberi
komentar opini orang lain.

Selvi : I think this bag is much prettier than that one. What is your opinion?
Kitty : Hmm, Well. I don’t know. I like both of them. Why do you like that one better?
Selvi : Hmm, the design is more interesting and the colors are brighter.
Kitty : And besides it, its color is really suitable for you.

Note :
Informal Expressions are used in a situation where you are talking between friends or close friends.
The expressions usually respond to something that you discuss in an informal situation.
Formal Expressions are used in a situation where you are talking in a formal situation, such as in
the office or school between the teacher and students
Think about is used when a person is occupied with something or somebody
Example : I can’t stop thinking about her
think of is used to imagine something. You can actually replace the word think of with the word
imagine.
Dialog Examples:
Mr. Zoe : What do you think of my new house?
Shane : It is beautiful. I think. Oh you have many novels in your new house.

After an opinion is given, either you agree with it or not. Look at the expressions below to
indicate agreement or disagreement.
Statement: GONE WITH THE WIND is the best movie ever made.
Agree: I’ll buy that.
Disagree: I disagree, (… STARS WARS was much better).
In general, an opinion is a subjective belief, and is the result of emotion or interpretation of facts. An
opinion may be supported by an argument, although people may draw opposing opinions from the
same set of facts. Opinions rarely change without new arguments being presented. It can be
reasoned that one opinion is better supported by the facts than another by analysing the supporting
arguments. In casual use, the term opinion may be the result of a person's perspective,
understanding, particular feelings, beliefs, and desires. It may refer to unsubstantiated information,

Attention!
In using this kind of expression, please consider this rule:
If the expression uses about / of at the end, add Noun / Noun Phrase to
complete it.
Ex: What is your opinion of (expression)
sneeze? (noun )
What do you think about (expression)
holding your sneeze? (noun phrase)
And also don’t forget to put the question mark in using this expression.
