Introduction

IlearnIT Limited was established in October 2006 but started operating in August 2007

with a variety of responsibilities. One of these is to provide basic ICT appreciation course

dubbed as Computer Driving Licence Programme. This is a training package that equips

individuals to use the computer effectively for word-processing, spreadsheet,

presentation, database, e-mail and internet access.

Problem

Individuals especially the youth would like to patronise the Computer Training

Programme organised by ilearnIT Limited but are restricted because of their inability to

afford the cost of the training.

Proposal

It is being suggested that as part of the social responsibility projects being undertaken to

organise and equip the youth to have employable skills, your company takes either part or

full cost of the training programme organise by ilearnIT Limited. We on the other hand

will also project your company name through certificates branding and other relevant

packages as it deemed fit. We believe a partnership between your company and ours will

go a great long way in community development assistance and outreach.

Research

I have found out from the past that numerous projects have been undertaken by your

company in the quest to lift the living standard of the people in the community you are

operating. For instance the building of the Police Station, OICI numerous work to give

employable skills to the people of the community etc. Such contributions are quite

admirable and commendable but as we are all aware ICT is becoming a bigger part of

human existence. The inability for individuals to be able to use such tools as a form of

communication and exchange limits them greatly in the 21st century. It has been found

also that most of the existing institutions who should be championing such technical

skills transfer is either non-existence or highly under resourced. We believe that our

organisation has the right human and equipment resources to be able to assist the

community with ICT support.

Obstacles and suggestion

It is the desire of IlearnIT Limited to provide Internet access to the community but it is

limited because of the inability of the existing network providers to extend their network

to us. They either do not have their services reaching the area or do not have the facilities

to allow us tap into for internet access. We are therefore extending our plea to your

organisation to extend your internet access to us to aid us impart the internet knowledge

to the youth. We can be made responsible for protecting your network from outside

attacks.

What the Youth stands to achieve at the end of each course.

available on an ongoing basis

4. Continue to develop at a pace which suits their local circumstances and resources

Concepts of Information Technology (IT)

Concepts of Information Technology (IT), requires the candidate to have an

understanding of some of the main concepts of IT at a general level. The candidate is

required to understand the make-up of a personal computer in terms of hardware and

software and to understand some of the concepts of Information Technology (IT) such as

data storage and memory. The candidate shall also understand how information networks

are used within computing and be aware of the uses of computer-based software

applications in everyday life. The candidate shall appreciate health and safety issues as

well as some environmental factors involved in using computers. The candidate shall be

aware of some of the important security and legal issues associated with using computers.

Using the Computer and Managing Files

Using the Computer and Managing Files, requires the candidate to demonstrate

knowledge and competence in using the common functions of a personal computer and

its operating system. The candidate shall be able to adjust main settings, use the built-in

help features and deal with a non-responding application. He or she shall be able to

operate effectively within the desktop environment and work with desktop icons and

windows. The candidate shall be able to manage and organize files and

directories/folders, and know how to duplicate, move and delete files and

directories/folders, and compress and extract files. The candidate shall also understand

what a computer virus is and be able to use virus-scanning software. The candidate shall

demonstrate the ability to use simple editing tools and print management facilities

available within the operating system.

Word Processing

Word Processing requires the candidate to demonstrate the ability to use a word

processing application on a computer. The candidate shall be able to accomplish everyday

tasks associated with creating, formatting and finishing small sized word processing

documents ready for distribution. He or she shall also be able to duplicate and move text

within and between documents. The candidate shall demonstrate competence in using

some of the features associated with word processing applications such as creating

standard tables, using pictures and images within a document, and using mail merge

tools.

Spreadsheets

Spreadsheets, requires the candidate to understand the concept of spreadsheets and to

demonstrate the ability to use a spreadsheet application on a computer. The candidate

shall understand and be able to accomplish tasks associated with developing, formatting,

modifying and using a spreadsheet8 of limited scope ready for distribution. He or she

shall also be able to generate and apply standard mathematical and logical formulas using

standard formulas and functions. The candidate shall demonstrate competence in creating

and formatting graphs/charts.

Database

Database, requires the candidate to understand some of the main concepts of databases

and demonstrate the ability to use a database on a computer. The candidate shall be able

to create and modify tables, queries, forms and reports, and prepare outputs ready for

distribution. The candidate shall be able to relate tables and to retrieve and manipulate

information from a database by using query and sort tools available in the package.

Presentation

Presentation requires the candidate to demonstrate competence in using presentation tools

on a computer. The candidate shall be able to accomplish tasks such as creating,

formatting, modifying and preparing presentations using different slide layouts for

display and printed distribution. He or she shall also be able to duplicate and move text,

pictures, images and charts within the presentation and between presentations. The

candidate shall demonstrate the ability to accomplish common operations with images,

charts and drawn objects and to use various slide show effects.

Cost value per package

Since the cost related to training a person with ICT basic skills is quite high, iLearnIT is

introducing a package which is reasonable for your outfit to consider. For a person to be

able to effectively run the training programme dubbed Computer Driving Licence

Programme with us, we are proposing a total package cost of One hundred dollars (US$

100). This is exclusive of training material and an ilearnIT-Newmont sponsored

certificates which would cost twelve dollars (US$ 12). It is being suggested that every

body who would be assisted with the package should be made a bit responsible and

committed in terms of bearing a fractional part of the training program since the overall

benefit goes to the individual in the long run.

Conclusion

If this proposal should be taken in good faith, we believe the name of your company will

forever be on the lips of the youth. Moreover, the youth of the town are expecting much

from your company. This will be a chance to meet partway their high expectation. It is

our high hope that some partnership can be developed between iLearnIT and your

organization in making a difference within this community now and in the future.
