This is a crime alert from the Northwestern University Police Department.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. today (Nov. 19), Evanston Police Department (EPD) responded to the First
United Methodist Church, near the intersec on of Hinman Avenue and Church Street, two blocks south of
the Northwestern campus, on a call about a person found unresponsive, lying outside the church near the
Hinman Avenue entrance. Upon arrival, EPD officers found a deceased woman who showed signs of trauma.
Police believe the woman might have died up to 24 hours earlier.
The vic m has no affilia on with Northwestern University and is believed to have been homeless. The
incident is being inves gated by EPD and the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force. Inves gators do not
believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
Police have increased patrols in the area. In conjunc on with extra police presence, Community Service
Officers are on foot patrol within the residence halls and Greek life residen al areas.

In addi on, please remember the following safety  ps:
Travel in groups when possible and always take the safest route, even if it is a li le longer.
Use well‐lit and busy sidewalks and avoid deserted sidewalks, vacant lots, and alleys.
Remain alert and be aware of your surroundings while crossing streets and taking public
transporta on, and keep electronics stored out of sight.
Avoid wearing stereo earplugs or headphones that prevent you from hearing what is going on around you.
If you have a purse or bag, hold it close to your body and carry only necessary money, credit cards, and
electronics.
