How long have you worked with Three semesters (Sep 2017- July 2018)
the applicant (insert dates)
Under my guidance, Mrs. Al Shamsi participated in monitoring students in schools during their
practicum courses in the two semesters, providing an appropriate professional role model for them, as
well as guiding their developing professionalism. However, the more measurable experience that she
gained was in observing and providing appropriate formative feedback both Oral and Written.
As the second semester evolved, she took on a more and more active role both in the formal
observation schedule and in the writing of feedback and reports. She also started teaching the students
about the E-Portfolio guidelines and taught them how to create their own websites using Weebly. The
students were able to create fascinating websites meeting the practicum courses outcomes with the
support of Mrs. Al Shamsi.
Overall, through this practice, Mrs. Al Shamsi established ability across a number of the dimensions as
outlined in the AFHEA ‘framework’. She learned to assess and give useful feedback to learners. In doing
so, she actively contributed to an environment in which students felt supported and where constructive
guidance was the uppermost Education Division Associate Fellow Reference July 2018 priority. Her
commitment to Professional Values in the way that she facilitated learning was apparent. She drew on
specific knowledge to inform both the content of her feedback and her appreciation of how students
learn. She applied some methods for evaluating the effectiveness of teaching and demonstrated a clear
appreciation of quality assurance and enhancement as it impacts the micro-community of the school.
In sum, I have no doubts about offering my support for Mrs. Al Shamsi in her application. While she is
still on her own road of self-development, she already has an impressive range of abilities and personal
and professional qualities that will hold her in very good stead along the way. I wish her the very best.
She is a pleasure to work with. These days, I regard her far more as a peer than as a mentee.r discipline
