A) Self- Intro: Hello my name is Mackenzie MacFarlane. I have a degree in Kinesiology from Cal
State Fullerton. I earned my professional teaching certification from Cal State Fullerton in Physical
Education. I coach hip-hop dancing and also perform on an adult hip-hop team myself. I love being
active and participating in activities such as rollerblading, dancing, etc.

B) Teaching Philosophy:
Philosophy Statement
It is ok for children to mess up and create chaos.
Kids are not we and we are not kids. Adults can be reprehended when they mess up but kids
need a chance to learn. Kids do not need to be under constant control at all times. Physical
education is a chance for kids to mess up, avoid punishment and create chaos. As long as there
is order to the chaos then it is okay.

Allow children to have fun.

Physical education is the one-hour within a child’s school day where he or she should be
able and willing to have the most fun. It is the one-hour that they aren’t restrained to a chair
behind a desk. It is the child’s chance to play, so provide lessons and let them move, as they
want.

Show them all things they are capable of.

Physical education class is a chance for kids to learn their skills and specialties. Allow
yourself to let them try anything and everything so that they are able to discover and learn about
themselves. Children are capable of so much but need guidance on how to discover all that they
can do.

Develop the future within each child.

Children are the future. Teach them how to be genuine people while allowing them to have
fun. Help them learn the appropriate way to interact with others. Let them discover themselves
while helping them to develop into a great human being. Guide them to lead the future better
than we once did.

C) Course Overview:
We will utilize physical education to teach students the values and character traits that will
assist them in becoming productive members of society. This course will utilize sports, games and
physical activity to improve the students’ health and skill related components of physical fitness.
The student will develop an appreciation of the benefits of regular physical fitness and learn
behaviors that will lead to participation in lifelong fitness activities. We believe that with active
participation on a regular basis, the student will develop an appreciation for physical activity. This
appreciation increases the odds that the student will continue to make proper decisions in regards to
physical fitness in the future.

Academic Dishonesty:

1) Lying: a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a
falsehood.

2) Cheating: to defraud; swindle. To violate rules and regulations. The fraudulent obtaining of
another’s property.

3) Stealing: to take (the property of another or others) without permission or right, especially
secretly or by force.

1st Defense: Warning

2nd Defense: Pink Slip
3rd Defense: Meeting with the teacher and a call to the parents.
4th Defense: Meeting with the principal and meeting with the parents.

b. Classroom Expectations

1) Be kind.
2) Do your best.
3) Listen.
4) Take care of each other.
5) Do no harm.
6) Accept responsibility.

Expected Classroom Behavior

1. Use equipment in the proper manner as demonstrated by the teachers.
2. Cooperate with fellow students and staff members at all times and listen when directions are
given.
3. Keep hands, feet and equipment to oneself.
4. Dress for class daily in appropriate P.E. clothes.

Consequences for Negative Classroom Behavior

1. Verbal warning given by one of the supervising teachers.
2. Loss of activity time and participation points.
3. After school detention, conference with teacher and phone call home.
4. Severe actions results in being removed from class immediately and sent to the Principal’s
Office.

4. Once you have completed steps 1 - 3 above, submit the entire plan (Steps 1-3 above) together
using the submission portal that follows. THEN include the entire plan (Steps 1-3 above) plan in
your Digital Portfolio (Your class website that you developed in Module 1).

BEHAVIOR CITATIONS
Students will be issued a citation for repeated or serious infractions of school rules. We ask that
parents discuss the misconduct with their child, sign the citation, and return it to school the
following day.

CONSEQUENCES: Grades 1-6 First Citation - 30 minutes detention after school Parent/Teacher
Phone Conference Second Citation - 30 minutes detention after school Parent/Teacher Phone
Conference Third Citation - 30 minutes detention after school, 2 days Parent/Teacher Phone
Conference Fourth Citation - 30 minutes detention after school, 2 days
Parent/Teacher/Student/Administrator Conference held. An individual behavior contract may be
created at that time.

AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR OR FIGHTING The consequences will be enforced fairly and

consistently, regardless of who started the fight. The administrators will determine appropriate
consequences on a case-by-case basis, which may include suspension.

SUSPENSION Suspension is a serious matter and is used when misconduct is chronic and/or
severe. Under the California State Education Code (48900) suspension from school may result from
any of the following actions: ● Caused/attempted/threatened physical injury ●
Possessed/sold/furnished a dangerous device ● Possessed/used/sold/furnished drugs/alcohol ●
Sold/furnished alleged drugs or alcohol ● Robbery/extortion ● Graffiti/vandalism to school/private
property ● Theft of school/private property (or attempt) ● Possessed or used tobacco ● Obscene
act/habitual profanity/vulgarity ● Sold/offered to sell drug paraphernalia ● Disruption/defiance of
school authority ● Receipt of stolen school/private property ● Possessed/sold or otherwise
furnished any firearm (this includes facsimiles), knife, explosive or other dangerous object (subject
to expulsion) ● Sexual harassment and other discriminatory act (Grades 4-6 only) ● Hate violence

DETENTION Detention will be held from 2:47 p.m – 3:17 p.m. on Thursdays in the Main
Commons. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT REPORT TO DETENTION AS ASSIGNED WILL
HAVE THEIR TIME DOUBLED. If absent, the student will serve the detention on the next
scheduled detention period upon his/her return to school. If the student arrives at detention 10 or
more minutes late, another detention will be assigned. Parents must arrange for transportation after
detention.

REFERRALS Referrals from noon supervisors at lunch recess will be handled with the classroom
teacher and/or administration.

TARDINESS Fairmont is committed to quality education and student tardiness disrupts the
educational program. When a student, in grades 4-6, is tardy three times within any four-week
period, a 30-minute after school detention will be assigned.
