Identifying the Author's Purpose
1. Which article informs readers? What information does the author want
the readers to know?
I think that both articles inform readers. The information the author wants
the readers to know in the article 1 is that there is a restaurant where
dogs can be taken for celebrating a birthday or having a dinner. In article
2 the author wants the readers to know that there is place where pets’
owner can leave their pets in case they want to take a vacation in
summer or any other season.

do?
Both articles persuades readers either to take their pets to their

In the second paragraph the author quotes according to what restaurant
owner Vera Carter says, "People want to return the loyalty and love their

good food."

The author makes two more quotes with two different people in the last
paragraph of the first reading, the author uses the next quotes, As Web
blogger Jack Simpson says, "Dog restaurants are absurd." Dog owner
Sherry Evans doesn't agree. She went to the Pet Cafe with her dog, Lulu.
"No, it's not ridiculous," she says. "Everyone has to feel needed. Lulu is
my sweet, precious baby:'

The author’s opinion is that Americans spent twice on their pets in 2004

are adding food for pets to their menus. However, there aren't many sit-
down pet restaurants like the Pet Café.

Pg. 12, exercise: Talk about Your Ideas

Think about people you know who have pets. Do you agree with the way
they treat them? Why or why not?
I know many people who have pets, I have seen people that mistreat their pet
and others that treats their pet well. Of course I disagree with those people that
mistreat their dogs, I think that pets don’t deserve to be mistreated because
they also have feelings. In the other hand I agree with those that treat their pets
well because as soon we get pets that live with us in our house they will
become part of the family therefore they must be treated respectfully.
