Njord Firmware Upgrade Instructions

The Njord family includes the LP820, LP815, C410, C420, DP8200x, Compact 695, AstroBeam
X320, and the Dataview M800. The instructions below refer to firmware version 753-0323-07 for the
LP820. Your version and projector model may be different. The procedure is identical.

NOTE The upgrade program used in this procedure conflicts with the program called ProjectorManager
III. If you have ProjectorManager III installed on your computer, you must uninstall it before upgrading the
firmware on your Njord family projector.

Connect the projector to the computer

To upgrade the projector firmware, you need a USB-A to USB-B cable

1 Connect plug the USB cable into the USB ports on the computer and projector.

2 Make sure the power switch is in the off position (‘0’). The power switch is next to the AC plug on
the back of the projector.

3 Plug the power cord into a power source and into the projector.
Perform the projector upgrade

1 In Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder where the files were unzipped (the same folder where
this document is stored). Double-click the file named USB_Flasher.exe.

The Firmware Upgrade Wizard appears.

2 Click Next.

2
3 In the Select File dialog box, click Browse.

4 In the Open dialog box, navigate (if needed) to the folder where the upgrade files are stored.
Then double-click the .bin file. Note that there are two .bin files. Select the ‘flashupgrader’ file.

The filename and path appear in the Select File dialog box.

3
5 Click Next.

The Select Link Type dialog box appears, telling you that the upgrade program is ready to begin.

6 Make sure you've connected the USB cable between the computer and the projector, the power
cord is plugged into the projector, and that power switch is in the off position (‘0’).

7 To start the projector in ‘upgrade mode’, do the following:

♦ On the projector keypad, press and hold the Menu button.

♦ Toggle the power switch on the back of the projector to the On position (‘I’),
immediately release the Menu button, and then immediately repress the Menu
button.

You know the projector is in upgrade mode when the LED turns to a steady amber. You may
need to repeat this step several times to get the timing right.

NOTE At this point, you may be asked to install the device USB driver. See page 7 in this
document for installation instructions.

4
8 To start the upgrade, click Next in the Select Link Type dialog box.

NOTE If the Upgrading status box shows no progress, click Cancel and start again.

9 When the upgrade finishes, click Finish.

Confirm the firmware upgrade

1 Unplug the USB cable from the Computer, then power up the projector

2 On the projector keypad, press the Menu button. Select Info on the main menu.

The Service Info dialog box displays the firmware version number (753-0323-07 in this example)
and the firmware version. These should match the build and version you downloaded.

Installing the USB drivers
The first time you attempt to upgrade the projector firmware (‘flash’) with a laptop, Windows detects a new
device, and asks for a driver.

The driver is included in the firmware upgrade you download from InFocus. After you follow the Wizard’s
instructions to install the driver, you can continue the firmware upgrade process.

NOTE The directions and illustrations below reflect the Windows XP operating system. If your computer
has Windows ME, 98 or 2000, the dialog boxes will appear different, and the process will vary slightly.

1 In the Found New Hardware Wizard, click Next.

6
2 Select Include This Location In The Search, and then click Browse.

3 Navigate to the location where the projector firmware files are stored, then click OK.

The illustration below shows the default location.

7
4 In the Found New Hardware Wizard, click Next.

The USB drivers automatically install on your computer.

8
5 When the files finish installing, click Finish.

You can now resume the firmware upgrade.
