FC BRITÁNICO DE MADRID vs AD NAYA ‘B’
14:45 – 25th November 2018
Campo de La Union
WELCOME TO CAMPO DE LA UNION
HOME OF FC BRITÁNICO DE MADRID

Hello and welcome to Campo de la Union for this afternoon’s game where we will be taking
on AD Naya ‘B’ of Alcalá de Henares in the two teams’ first ever meeting. We will be hoping
to build on last weekend’s battling performance by collecting all 3 points today
There is no denying that over the last few weekends the team has endured a more
difficult time than we would have liked, given our excellent start to life in La Segunda. That
being said, last season the team experienced similar misfortune early on in the season
before rising to the occasion and ultimately sealing an historic promotion for the club.
That kind of grit and determination seen so often last year was present again last
weekend where the team battled back from being a goal behind on 3 occasions during the
game and could easily have come away with the win.
In the end a point was probably a fair result, but we are hoping to improve on that
today as we return to “The Fortress” with only a win on our minds!

Británicos Bounce Back to Bag Point

A thrilling early-morning encounter saw FC Británico come from behind three times to snatch a point away at
AD Esperanza.
As has so often been the case this season, Los Británicos started slowly and were behind after merely two
minutes. After a foul on the edge of the box, Andres Gonzalez stepped up to hit a low free kick in off the right-
hand post and establish an early lead for the home team.
On an extremely narrow pitch against an opposition keen to press high, the away team struggled to string
passes together in the early stages of the game but did manage to draw level on the half hour mark. An incisive
through ball from Nacho Duran in central midfield found Nico Higuero, who shot hard across the goalkeeper
to level the scores.
Esperanza hit back though merely six minutes later. Los Británicos failed to deal with a long ball into the box
and Jesus Prieto del Prado pounced on a loose clearance to establish a 2-1 lead going into half time.
On 60 minutes the scores were level again. The away team was awarded a free kick on the edge of the
opposition box and John Meighan – as is becoming customary this year – stepped up to fizz the ball into the
top corner for his fourth of the season.
In what was a manic five minutes, Esperanza again took the lead as a clever short corner was worked into the
box, with Prieto del Prado getting the jump on his marker to score his second of the match with a header past
goalkeeper Philip Ellis. However, two minutes later, following the breakdown from a Británicos’ corner, the
imposing Josh Stafford took a low shot across the box which cannoned off the knee of Tom Hanley into the top
corner of the net to make it 3-3.
Los Británicos’ hopes of bagging a priceless away win were dealt a knock when Higuero was sent off for a
second yellow card on 74 minutes, but chances continued to be created at both ends. While both teams will be
disappointed not to have won, both can be proud of having provided an entertaining spectacle for the watching
crowd in Esperanza.
Men of the Match: John Meighan and Paul Smart
TOP GOALSCORERS
John Meighan’s free kick away at AD Esperanza last week took him up to four goals,
level with Nico Higuero in the race for the golden boot. With Higuero suspended for
this week’s game, will Meighan or Simon Bouille take the chance to establish a lead
at the top of the scoring charts?
