Clause & Sentence

Transformation
 Clause 
 A Clause is a Part of Sentence having a Subject and Finite Verb.
Ex.:- Ram said that he was a dancer.
Clause Clause
 According to Structure Clause can be divided into three Parts :-
(i) Main Clause, (ii) Subordinate Clause & (iii) Co – Ordinate Clause
 Main Clause – A Clause that is independent for its meaning is called Main Clause.
Ex.:- Ram said that he was a dancer.

 Subordinate Clause – A Clause that depends on Main Clause for its meaning is called
Subordinate Clause.
Note – यान रह क इसका शु आत कसी Subordinating Conjunction – That, If,
Whether, Unless, Until …etc. से होता ह।
Ex.:- Ram said that he was a dancer.

 Co - Ordinate Clause – Two or more than two Main Clause connected with a Co-
Ordinating Conjunction make the formation of Co - Ordinating Clause.
Ex.:- Ram said but Sita did not say that they would go to Delhi.

 Sentence 
 A Sentence is a group of words that give a complete sense.
Ex.:- Ram writes a letter.
 According to Structure Sentence can be divided into four Parts :-
(1) Affirmative Sentence
(2) Interrogative Sentence
(3) Negative Sentence
(4) Interrogative and Negative Sentence.
 According to sense –
(1) Affirmative Sentence = Interrogative & Negative Sentence
(2) Interrogative Sentence = Negative Sentence
Ex.:- Ram is mad.
Is Ram mad?
Ram is not mad.
Is Ram not mad?
 According to formation Sentence can be divided into four Parts :-
(1) Simple Sentence
(2) Compound Sentence
(3) Complex Sentence
(4) Compound & Complex Sentence
 Simple Sentence – A Sentence having a Subject and a Finite Verb makes the Structure of
Simple Sentence.
Ex.:- Ram writes a letter.
Mohan is going to play Cricket.

 Compound Sentence – Two or more than two Main Clauses connected with a Co-
Ordinating Conjunction make the formation of Compound Sentence.
Ex.:- Ram is a dancer and Sita is a singer.
 Complex Sentence – A Sentence having a Main Clause and a Subordinate Part is called
Complex Sentence.
Ex.:- Ram said that he was a dancer.
 Compound and Complex Sentence – A Sentence having two or more than two Main
Clauses and a Subordinate Part is called Compound and Complex Sentence.
Ex.:- Ram said but Sita did not say that they would go to Delhi.
