Where does a London Business School MiF lead?
We’ll let some of our graduates tell you…

“My MiF experience

provided me

Dave Lok (Chinese) MiF2013, Vice
President, EXS Capital Asia

After four years at PwC, I became aware

that certain elements were missing from
my professional profile. Business school
was the perfect platform for me to gain
a more holistic view of the wider finance
industry. I was looking for a finance-
specific programme that would allow me
to share my knowledge and experience
with professionals from different fields
across the financial markets. I also wanted
to experience a more culturally diverse
environment, strengthening and expanding
my professional network to support a
sustainable career.

The School’s MiF programme was a perfect

fit for my needs, and the location was also a
great draw. To keep up with global markets, The MiF programme has equipped me London has a large international population –

“While I believe
nothing is
impossible, it
would have
been much
harder to get
this position
without coming
to LBS”
Yelena Don (Kazakh), MiF2015, Associate,
Goldman Sachs

While I believe nothing is impossible,

it would have been much harder to get
this position without coming to LBS. If
you want to work for a big institution or
corporation it’s very hard to come straight
from a small, unknown firm.

Through the Finance Club I heard that

Goldman Sachs was hosting an event at
its offices. During the event, I met two LBS
alumni who recommended me internally
and I think that really made a difference.
As a result, I built a network of alumni from
different banks and industries who helped
me shape my CV and answer correctly
in interviews.

The School gives you an amazing

opportunity to meet recruiters from all
over the world from different industries,
but it’s ultimately up to you whether you
make it or not.

“The MiF
allowed me
to focus on
the more
specialised
and technical
aspects of
finance”

Lon O’Sullivan (American) MiF2009,

Executive Director, Global Head of Corporate
Credit Market Risk, Morgan Stanley

My career was going well, but I felt I lacked

some of the quantitative skills necessary to
be senior leader in the risk area. The MiF
was appealing as it allowed me to focus on
the more specialised and technical aspects
of finance, rather than the managerial and
behavioural aspects, which I already felt
comfortable with. I chose the part-time
format as I wanted to immediately apply
my new skills in the workplace.

In the risk field, the more knowledgeable

you are the better, so the MiF was a step in
the right direction. The programme allowed
me to gain more confidence and rise to the
challenge in a very difficult market.

“I have accessed
alumni expertise to
refine our processes
as well as highly skilled
student volunteers”
Chris Coghlan (British) MiF2012,
CEO, Grow Movement

I’ve always been

passionate about
international
relations and
development.
While employed
as an accountant,
I acted as an
election observer
for the EU in the
Ukraine and DR Congo. I eventually
joined Charlemagne Capital, an emerging
markets hedge fund, focused on Eastern
Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

I set up Grow Movement a year before

starting my MiF. It’s a not-for-profit
organisation harnessing business to
end poverty and conflict in the world’s
poorest communities, including Malawi,
Uganda and Rwanda. We provide remote
consulting to small and medium-sized
businesses and need remote volunteers,
funding, organisational capacity and
entrepreneurs. I had gaps in my business
knowledge, so I jumped at the opportunity
to study at LBS.

The rigorous education on the

programme fitted well with my position
at the hedge fund and my long-term
objectives. Courses like Strategy helped
me determine how to position Grow
Movement, while Global Capital Markets
and Currencies gave me a high-level
economic overview that led to work
experience within a development bank,
building networks and credibility.

At an LBS TEDx talk, I was able to

market Grow Movement and I’m sure
this contributed to us receiving a
government grant to help 38,000 people
soon afterwards. I have accessed alumni
expertise and, via the student and alumni
network, I’ve sourced highly skilled
volunteers with diverse areas of expertise.
The LBS experience has contributed
hugely to our success.
