will worship with us and then will speak
with us about Baltimore Yearly Meeting.
Afterward we’ll enjoy a soup lunch,

Discussion about First Day
School Practices: October 21
Please join members of the Religious
Education and the Ministry and
Oversight Committees in a threshing
session* to discuss standards and safety
guidelines for our First Day School and
nursery (including related activities such
as field trips, etc.). Everyone is welcome,
and parents are strongly encouraged to
attend! There will be child care available.
*In Quaker parlance, a “threshing
session” is a meeting to discuss
some issue or set of issues without
expectation that decisions will be made.

and the Bible to be led by Allen Cochran
and Caroline Pelton following Meeting for
Worship on December 9. Other sessions are
being planned for the first part of 2019.

Fall Family Camp Weekend: Opequon
Quaker Camp, October 26-28
Come for games and crafts, splash in the
creek or hike, and help with autumn work
projects that will suit all kinds of skill sets.
Meals will be served, and there will be
a camp fire in the evening. Families and
individuals welcome!

November 17 – The Gathered Meeting
at Frederick Friends Meeting
(Frederick, MD)
Warrington Quarterly Meeting presents
Steven Davison leading a discussion about
The Gathered Meeting, the subject of his
2017 Pendle Hill Pamphlet by that title.
We’ll explore what the Gathered Meeting is
and why it’s important both in the history of
Friends and for our future. We’ll also discuss
things that Meetings and individuals can do
to make our experience of holy communion
more common in our worship. There will be
a brown bag lunch after the discussion.

Save the date for this year’s Christmas
potluck dinner and carol sing: December 16!
At Meeting for Worship with a Concern for
Business, we enjoyed hearing from Zephyr
(Sammie) Sheedy. She is a senior at Virginia
Commonwealth University and attends
Richmond Friends Meeting. And during a
recent encounter with Friends from Nashville
(Tennessee) Meeting, Catherine Cox heard all
about their great fondness for Chloe Gooditis,
who worshiped with Nashville Friends while
she was studying at Vanderbilt. Word has it
that Chloe is now working in Michigan.
It was disappointing to find out that this
year’s rains had made Friends Wilderness
Center unworkable for the Meeting for
Worship we’d planned there in September.
We look forward to worshiping in the
Treehouse another year.

learning a little about 19th century Quaker,
Elizabeth Fry, who taught skills
to women in prison.
OCTOBER 14
Students will learn about George Fox who
founded the Religious Society of Friends
(Quakers) in the 17th century.
OCTOBER 21
Women and minority voting rights.
Students will learn how women and
minorities were not allowed to vote and
ways that women and minorities were
discriminated against and prevented from
voting even after earning the right to vote.
