MID-YEAR IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS

“Enhancing Teachers’ Ability for Yearning Achievement”

A NARRATIVE REPORT

Facilitating professional training and learning opportunities is one of

the roles of teacher leaders. If learning is shared from one teacher to

another, teachers can directly focus on the improvement of student

learning. Teachers do have different types of learning needs which are

required to be addressed in aiming effective learning. Professional

development of teachers could be enhanced through conducting an in-

service training program.

In-service training (INSET) is a school-based seminar workshop

regarding the needs of all teachers in improving their teaching methods,

classroom management, professional growth and development and

knowledge and skills enhancement towards uplifting student-centered

environment.

Pilar Village Elementary School headed by Dr. Jocelyn C. Balome

conducted its Mid-Year In-Service Training Program for Teachers last

October 22 – 26, 2018. This year’s INSET with the theme “Enhancing

Teachers’ Ability for Yearning Achievement” was spearheaded by Mr. Eddie

B. Mendez, Master Teacher I with the help of other master teachers.

IN-SERVICE TRAINING OCTOBER 22 - 26, 2018

The INSET started with smiling faces shown by the teachers, a

manifestation that they are willing and ever ready to embrace new

learnings they will acquire from the seminar. Teachers from all grade

levels were made to register and signed the attendance before the start of

the session. After which, an opening program started with a prayer led by

Mrs. Mary Ann Teves, followed by the singing of National Anthem and Las

Piñas Hymn through AVP. Dr.

Jocelyn Balome then, gave her

opening remarks. She stated the

importance of INSET and how sit

will help the teachers in dealing

with diverse learners. She inspired

the teachers to do their share in

developing a 21st century learners

who are developed with adequate

knowledge and skills that readily

translate into performance. Next was

the introduction of the participants

conducted by Mrs. Perla Quijada,

Guidance Teacher. This was one of the

amusing part of PVES” INSET.

Teachers were really game and

spirited in presenting their group with

a yell.

IN-SERVICE TRAINING OCTOBER 22 - 26, 2018

After that, the chairman of the INSET Program, Mr. Eddie B. Mendez

gave an overview of what the INSET is all about. He also announced that

each day, the participants will present their yell as a part of attendance

checking and that there will be a contest of best yell per grade level. The

Grade Five Group won on the first day. There was also house rules to

follow and assigning of work and task for each grade level was also

disseminated.

After the opening program, Mr. Jojo Magdamit Jr., Masster Teacher I

talked about classroom management. He reiterated that effective

classroom management strategies involve organization, fostering good

working relationships, as well as a disciplined yet personable attitude.

IN-SERVICE TRAINING OCTOBER 22 - 26, 2018

Mr. Magdamit reminded the teachers that it takes time and effort to

manage the class effectively because not every child will respond

positively to the ideas of the teachers. However, through commitment and

consistency, we can cultivate a positive learning environment where

students respect one another and learn efficiently.

After the talk of Mr. Magdamit,

the teachers were given a chance to

listen to Mrs. Rose A. Manliorlre who

talked about Health Awareness and

Preventive Medicine. Since teaching is

a very stressful job, the topic is very

timely. Mrs. Manliorlre talked about the

benefits of drinking eight glasses of

water every day. Keeping our body

hydrated is crucial for our health and well-being. The also introduced

some tips on how to use water as body therapy.

IN-SERVICE TRAINING OCTOBER 22 - 26, 2018

The school believes that everyone has a role to play in crime

prevention and at the same time understands the needs of the teacher for

self-protection. For this reason, Dr. Jocelyn C. Balome coordinated with Mr.

Joseph C. Arnaldo and his team to give the teachers basic training on

Crime Awareness, Prevention and Self-Protection. Though the sessions

were very tiring for the teachers, it was fun and exciting. The teachers

were taught basic arnis strikes and movements. They were also taught

how to defend themselves in certain circumstances. The half-day training

on self-defense was really engaging and fun. Mr. Arnaldo spoke about self-

defense which will help the teachers or any individual to be prepared for

unexpected situations and it will also help develop increased mental and

physical health. The session ended at around 5:25 in the afternoon.

IN-SERVICE TRAINING OCTOBER 22 - 26, 2018

On the second day of INSET, a plenary was held for the MOL or

Management of Learning. Participants were really looking forward to this

particular part of the INSET because of the yell presented by each grade

level. Every group cheered to their hearts content. The songs presented

let out all of the built-up tension and set the mood for the day and helped

teachers and speakers loosen up or warm up. Grade Five Team bagged the

prize for this day.

After the MOL, the participants were split into two groups; the K to 3

Group and the Intermediate Group. In the K to 3 Group, the session was

INSET was a huge success. It motivated the teachers to be at their best in

molding the young minds. Mrs. Marichu O. Bautista gave an impression

that teachers play a vital role in the lives of the young ones. This

particular 5-day training made the teachers realized the value and

importance of their characters in the lives of the children. They have

realized that despite the intellectual ability of the students, they are still

part of the class. INSET made the teachers appreciate the pupils more

despite of all the odd. Mrs. Balome then challenged the teachers to apply

what they have learned during the 5-days INSET and keep in mind that

teachers can make a big difference in the lives of the Filipino learners.

cooperation shown by everyone. Then, the moment everyone was waiting

for, the announcement of the champion in yell competition. The award

was bagged by the Kinder Teachers.

This year’s INSET was really a big success. This only show that

despite of all the demands and loads of works given to teachers, we can

still proudly say that we are here to stand for the children and we are here

to give our best in order to give our future generation an education they

truly deserved. Once again, we have proven that PVES teachers are the

best because we believe that all we are doing is for our precious learners.

Para sa Bata. Para sa Bayan.
