For a multimode base station, SRAN7.0 or later can be upgraded directly to the target
version whereas versions earlier than SRAN7.0 must be upgraded to SRAN7.0 first.
For the upgrade of SRAN7.0 and later versions, check Appendix 1 Version Mapping
Information to determine whether the source version is an SRAN version. You can obtain
this appendix from the directory Release Notes\Multimode Base Station Release
Notes\Release Notes (Word_Excel) in the document package delivered with the software
version of the multimode base station. For details about SRAN upgrade requirements, see
BTS3900 V100R009C00SPC230 Upgrade Guide (SME-Based). For non-SRAN versions,
contact Huawei technical support for an upgrade policy.
1.5.2 Precautions
Read the following precautions before the upgrade:
Time mentioned in this guide is for reference only.
Services will be interrupted during the upgrade. Therefore, you are advised to upgrade
the BTS software during off-peak hours.
During the BTS upgrade process, do not reset boards or the BTS.
This document uses the GTMU, GRRU, UBRI, and EMU as examples to describe how
to upgrade BTS boards. The processes for upgrading the DRRU, DRFU, MRRU, GRFU,
MRFU, and AIRU are the same as the process for upgrading the GRRU. The processes
for upgrading the USCU, UTRP, UCIU and UBBP are the same as the process for
upgrading the UBRI. The processes for upgrading other boards are the same as the
process for upgrading the EMU. For details about the categories of BTS boards, see 7.2
What Are the Categories of BTS Boards?
All configured BTS boards except monitoring boards must be upgraded during a BTS
upgrade. The decision on whether to upgrade monitoring boards must depend on the
precautions released by Huawei. If necessary, upgrade monitoring boards after upgrading
the non-monitoring boards. For details about how to upgrade monitoring boards, see 7.3
How Do I Upgrade Monitoring Boards?
If the BTS software does not run properly after the upgrade or KPIs after the upgrade do
not meet the customers' requirements, perform version rollback and contact Huawei
technical support.
Before a new BTS correctly communicates with the BSC, the BTS maintenance port is
enabled by default. When the BTS correctly communicates with the BSC and is
upgraded using the SMT, run the DSP BTSLOCALETHPORT command to query the
value of Port Configuration Status in the command output. If the value is Disable, run
the SET BTSLOCALETHPORT command with Maintenance Port Switch set to
ENABLE(Enable).
Before upgrading the base station, check whether the BootROM software of the TRX
board needs to be upgraded based on the risk check result. If yes, upgrade the BootROM
software by following steps provided in BTS3900 V100R009C00SPC230 (GBTS)
BootROM Upgrade Guide (BSC LMT-Based).
Before performing the mode-by-mode upgrade of a multimode base station, check
whether any of the following alarms is generated on each mode. If generated, clear the
alarm before the upgrade. Otherwise, cells may become out of service after the upgrade.
GSM alarm: ALM-28010 Carrier Configuration Error
UMTS alarm: ALM-28211 Cell Configuration Abnormal
LTE alarm: ALM-29240 Cell Unavailable
Strictly follow the upgrade flowchart shown in Figure 2-1 to upgrade base stations.

password. The default password is hwbs@com. You can change your password as required.
Step 2 Run the MML command LST FTPSCLTDPORT to check whether the IP address for the PC
storing the BTS software is bound to the corresponding port.
If yes, modify the port number of the FTP server tool to ensure that the port number is
consistent with the queried port number.
If no, but the wildcard IP address 0.0.0.0 has binding relationship with the port, modify
the port number of the FTP server tool to the number of the port binding the wildcard IP
address.
If no, and the wildcard IP address 0.0.0.0 does not have binding relationship with the
port, modify the port number of the FTP server tool to the default port number 21.
For details about how to set the port number, see Step 3.
Step 3 Right-click in the taskbar and choose FTP server configure from the shortcut menu. In
the displayed dialog box, set the parameters as follows, as shown in Figure 7-8.
1. Set User name to admin (default value). Users can change it as required.
2. Set Password to the password configured in Step 1.
3. Set Working directory to an appropriate value, such as D:\FTP.
FTP servers should be manually set the working directory to the directory saving the software package.
Otherwise, the BTS software fails to download.
4. Set Port number to the port number obtained in Step 2.
The values of User and User Password must be the same as those set in Step 3 in 7.10.2 Configuring
FTP Server.
