Standards:
SC.4.E.6.1 - Identify the three categories of rocks on Earth: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.

Write out the Curriculum Standards (Common Core Standards: cpalms.org) that the lesson will
address. Be sure to include the number and word form of the CCS. Also include 2-3 NETS-T
(iste.org) standards and NETS-S standards.

Objectives: Recall the three categories of rock, how they are formed, and where they can be found.
Be able to identify the rock cycle, and its process.

Write 1-3 Clear age appropriate behavioral objectives that are measurable. Be sure to include
the action (behavior), condition (circumstances) and criterion (performance level).

Materials:
List all the materials needed for teaching this lesson. Cite resources (both text and web).
Indicate technology that will be needed (hardware and software). Attach any supporting
documents (handouts) that are needed for this lesson.

Possible Questions:
Write 4-5 engaging, open-ended, meaningful questions you will ask during the lesson. They
must relate to the objectives and the standards.

Beginning of the Lesson:


Describe how you will capture the student’s attention (grabber, hook). You may include recall
of previous lessons of concepts. Plan for about 3-6 minutes for this part.

Middle of the Lesson:


Identify and describe the events of the lesson. Use a variety of instructional strategies. Be
sure the activities and events align with the standards and objectives. This should be the bulk
of your lesson.

End of the Lesson:


Describe what you will do to close the lesson. Indicate how you plan to have the students
demonstrate their understanding through some sort of assessment. Be sure to include a
rubric, scoring sheet, checklist or answer key for the assessment. The assessment should
measure the behavioral objectives and standards.

Describe one traditional modification and one technology modification that you can use with
students who do not speak English as their native language.
