Smart Dispatch User Guide Product Overview

1. Product Overview
With the social development, public security is being threatened by increasing challenges. It calls for the
capability to make quick and efficient response to various emergent and critical events.

To answer this call, Hytera has succeeded in launching an integrated and modular C/S-based dispatch
solution–Smart Dispatch. Leveraging on rich audio and data services such as radio dispatch, GPS
positioning and telephone intercommunication, Smart Dispatch can maximize your dispatch capability by
mobilizing and organizing all resources available.

It consists of Client, Gateway, Server, Repeater, Dispatch Station and Radio. The following diagram

2.12.3 Making a Call from Radio to Telephone

If the radio subscriber intends to initiate a call to a telephone subscriber, he/she should send a text
message (including the telephone number) in defined format to Smart Dispatch. Then the system will
automatically establish this call.

To make a call from the radio to the telephone, do as follows:

Step 1 The radio subscriber edits the text message including the prefix (SIP :) and the telephone

number(e.g. SIP: 1743).

Step 2 The radio sends the message to the appropriate contact under the coverage of the dispatch

station or repeater.

Step 3 The telephone subscriber picks up the handset to answer the call after call setup.

2.13 Performing the Audio Link

Audio Link is a feature that enables radio subscribers in different dispatch areas to communicate with
each other.

Audio Link has three working modes:

 DSs transfer the calls to each other: The specified radios or groups in different areas can
communicate with each other.

 Many DSs transfer the calls to one DS: The call from different dispatch stations in multiple areas can
be redirected to one dispatch station in one designated area. For example, the radio or group in
different dispatch stations in multiple areas can communicate with that in one dispatch station in one
designated area. Please note that only one radio or group will respond to the call in this mode.

 One DS transfers the calls to many DSs: The call from one designated area will be redirected to
radios or groups in multiple areas. In other words, the radios or groups in one designated area can

29
Smart Dispatch User Guide Dispatch

communicate with those in other areas. Please note that multiple radios or groups will respond to the
call in this mode.

To perform the audio link, do as follows:

Step 1 Go to “Resource -> Audio Link” in the left navigation tree, and the “Audio Link” pane appears.

Step 2 Set the audio link rule.

For example, if you select the “Many DSs transfer the calls to one DS” mode, groups in MR14,
MR15 and MR16 can communicate with Group 17 in MR17.

2.14 Setting the PTT Shortcut

You can define a key on the computer keyboard as the PTT shortcut for initiating a call quickly.

To set the shortcut, do as follows:

Step 1 Open the call pane and click .

Step 2 Select “PTT Shortcut”, and define a specific key (F1–F12, or Space) on the keyboard.

2.15 Disabling/Enabling a Radio

2.15.1 Disabling/Enabling a Known Radio
A known radio means the radio added into the dispatch list.

When a radio is lost or unreachable, you can disable it for communication security purpose. The
disabled radio is unavailable for call and message services, but you can also keep an eye on it via GPS
service.

The disabled radio can be enabled again for normal operations.

You can follow the same steps to enable or disable a radio. The following procedures describe how to
disable a radio.

Step 1 Select the appropriate radio in the subscriber list.

Step 2 Right-click this radio and select “Disable” in the context menu.

Step 3 Click “Yes” in the pop-up dialog.

Then an alert message will appear on the LCD of the radio, and the menu option in the Smart
Dispatch also changes to “Enable” accordingly.

2.15.2 Disabling/Enabling an Unknown Radio

An unknown radio means the radio beyond the dispatch list. If such radio disturbs the communications,
you can disable it.

Step 1 Click the call alert in the call status bar to view the caller information in the pop-up call pane.

define the telemetry commands in both the Smart Dispatch Client and the CPS. For more information,
see Hytera Smart Dispatch Configuration Guide.

To send the telemetry command via the Smart Dispatch Client, do as follows:

First, select the radio which connects to the monitored device in the left navigation tree. Then right-click
the radio to select the telemetry command (e.g.: StdStatus Request). Finally the query result will appear.

subscriber must initiate a call or send a message within a specified duration. Otherwise, an alarm will be
displayed on the Smart Dispatch Client to remind the dispatcher that the subscriber might encounter
dangers.

This feature applies to dangerous scenarios where radio subscribers work alone. With this feature
enabled for radio subscribers, the dispatcher can know the situations in real time and respond to any
emergencies quickly.

To enable the Lone Worker mode, right-click a radio and select "Start Lone Worker".

Note
To disable the Lone Worker mode, right-click a radio and select "Stop Lone Worker".

2.19 Receiving an Emergency Alarm

Smart Dispatch can automatically receive the emergency alarm from the radio.

When an emergency alarm arrives, an alert message will appear on the main interface of Smart
Dispatch Client. Clicking “Take” means you have received the alarm, and clicking “Handle” means you
have handled the emergency case. You will hear a periodical alert tone if the emergency remains to be
dealt with.
