for educators Proverbs 3:11-12

NIV - My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke because the
Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.


RSV - My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord
reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

KJV - My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correc?on: For
whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

LB - Young man, do not resent it when God chastens and corrects you, for his punishment is
proof of his love. Just as a father punishes a son he delights in to make him beEer, so the Lord
corrects you.

Note to the educator

Discipline is the proof of God’s love. What a bold statement. Chris?ans understand that God is

faithful to correct us when we are wrong. He has promised to guide us, lead us and help us
change course when we are on the wrong path. As Chris?an educators, we have the charge to
discipline our students in love. Many ?mes it is easier to turn a blind eye to a misbehavior, but
what if God did that? God loves us so much that He is willing to correct us to make us beGer, to

mold us into all that we can be. We need to look at each of our students and correct them in
order to help them grow and reach their God-given poten?al. LeIng them seGle for less is not
acceptable.
