Information about the Mpungos of Palo Mayombe 

Nsamba, Zambia:  

God is first and foremost the Creator. His name in the African Kongo is Nzambi Mpungu, His 
name in Cuba is Nsambi, Zambia and Zambia.  

He is the creator of everything. From the largest to the smallest. From the softest to the hardest. 

He has created Air, Fire, Earth, Mountains, Trees, Grass, Animals, Sun, Sky, Clouds, Moons and 
Stars. Everything! 

Nfumbe, Dead:  

The Spirits, The Ancestors, and the Dead that live in the NGanga. 

Lucero Mundo: 

He is the owner of the doors, traveling and Fortune.  He Dominates the four winds. 

In the religion of the Mayombe, he is revered as the owner of all roads.  He has the powerful 
abilities to attract and repel the influences of good and evil.  

There is no way around things without Lucero Mundo, for he is the one that helps in guiding 
everything and he can just as easily stop something from happening just as well as allow 
something to happen.  

It is thru him that helps the Tata with his work as well as  the Eggun and the Nfumbe. 

Lucero Mundo has an important place in the religion of Palo Mayombe and he is the one that 
helps with consulting with the Nganga and therefore he is the one that is always fed along with 
the Nganga.  

Lucero also the one that helps in guiding and teaching the Mayombero. He is the one that 
guides the Mayombero in his work and in his steps,from beginning to the end. 

Many compare Lucero with that of the Orisha Eleggua in the Yoruba religion. 

 
Sarabanda:  

He is know for being the spirit of metal, war, destruction and accidents.  

He is said to be the representative of the mountain and metals, strength and  helps speed up the 
work on being done by the Tata. 

He makes himself known usually by the destruction and accidents he is known to cause. 

Sarabanda is considered the most warlike deity of the Kongo. 

His spirit in the Regla of Palo Monte is very important and as such he is usually the first 
fundament recieved to help in setting a solid foundation of teh Palero. 

Becasue of his characteristics,strength and violence ‐ Sarabanda is usually compared to the 
Orisha Oggun.  

Siete Rayos (Seven Rays):  

He is known for being the spirit of lightning, fire and sky.  

As such, He's known for being one of the most powerful warriors.  He is also known for his 
leadership as well as being boisterous , dangerous (if you get on his very bad side), loving and 
more. 

Its his nature as he loves to solve the problems presented to him by the faithful. When he helps 
to solve problems, at times he does it in so subtle acts that you would never he is  working his 
magic. 

Fire is his weapon that he uses to attack enemies. Many times you can tell by those who seem 
to die in fires that are apparently accidental or suicide.  

Siete Ray is usually compared with the Orisha Shango. 

Mpungo: 

 The meaning of an Mpungo is ‐ deities, spirits of the Kongo, and defender Bakongo ancestors.  

Mpungo are spirits of the dead and works directly with God, Zambia. This espiruto of death will 
service one time to another. 

 Madre Agua:  

She is the spirit of the Seven Seas, and of peace, fertility and motherhood. 

She is usually compared with the Orisha Yemaya. 

 
Mama Shola wengue:  

She is known to be the Spirit of Love, Money, Seduction, fame and fortune. 

Mama wenge is the spirit and owner of the riversas well as the protector of women.  

This prenda is recieved in the regla of Palo Monte, and many may give as a protective amulet 
mainly because her initiations are rarely performed in Mayombe. 

Her Prenda is known for its effectivness on love and sexual situation.  

Mama Chola is usually compared to the Orisha Oshun. 

Centella Ndoki:  

She is the Spirit of cemeteries and Queen of the underworld ..  

Some in the Regla Mayombe say that the Eggun fear her because she owns the cemetery, the 
dead and controls the storms. 

Mayomberos prefer to have her prenda buried in their homes.  

Many use her prenda to have more influence and control over the Nfumbe, whether the 
intentions are good or bad, because of the effectivness to do harm 

She is usually compared to the Orisha Oya. 

Tiembla Tierra:  

He is known as the spirit of peace and respected the rule proteccion. 

He is the owner of the Mountains , hills, etc. 

Many in Mayombe, say that he is known for his virtue and his balance between the forces of 
good and evil . He is especially known for balancing the fierce strenth of both Sietae Rayos and 
of Sarabanda. 

Many believe that just because he has equal balance in good and bad, that he is  no less 
dangerous than any of the other deities, and his anger is overwhelming for any type of offense 
committed by any of the faithful. 

He is usually comapred to the Orisha Obatala. 

 
Cabo Rondo:  

The spirit of the house, and the Indians and justice. 

Usually compared  to the Orisha Ochosi 

He is usually comapred to  

 Lukankanse:  

Is the Devil. 

 Nguru Nfinda :  

The spirit of the sacred herbs and the future. 

He is usually compared to the Orisha Osain 

Kobayende:  

The spirit of health.
