applicable (PTC 6). We would like to clarify as follows:

1.1 Object:
In planning and running the test , the parties must strive to follow the code procedures
as closey as possible to achieve the lowest level of uncertainty.
1.2 Scope:
This code contains rules and prpocedures for the conduct and reporting of Turbine
testing , includeing mandatory requirements , testing techniques, and methods of
caculationof test results. The performance parameters which may be determined from
a code test include:
a. heat rate
b. generator output
c. steam follow
d. steam rate
e. feedwater flow

1.3 Full-Scale Test

a.The full-scale test requires extensive thermal cycle measurements and calculation
which provide detailed in formation about the turbine HP, IP, LP invidual component
performance. A full-scale test will produce results with a minimum uncertainty
b The full-Scale test with condensate flow measurement is recommend for conducting
acceptance tests.

Heat rate Heat consumption hour per unit output .The turbine is charged with the J/J
aggregate of the steam supplied any chargeable aggregate enthalpy added by Kj/kWh
reheaters, it is credited with the aggregate enthalpy of feedwater returned
from cycle to the steam generator . Turbine generator performance may be
defined on basis of the gross power output at the generator terminals less the
power used by the minimum electrically-drive turbine auxiliaries and
excitation equipment, supplied as part of the turbine –generator unit, required
for reliable and continuous operation
Valve-loop The continuous curve of actual heat rate for all values of output over the
curve operating rate of unit
Mean of A smooth curve which gives the same load-weighted average performance as
valve loops the valve –loop curve
Valve Wide Maximum control valve opening abtainable under normal turbine control
Open(VWO) system operation
Valve points Those valve positions which correspond to the low points of the valve-loop
curve
Locus curve The continuous curve connecting the valve points
Power The useful energy, per unit of time ,delivered by the turbine-generator unit kWh/h

4. Planning for test:

Requirements for Agreements. The parties to any test under this code shall reach definite
agreement on the specific objective of test and on the method of operation. This
agreement reflect the intent of any applicable contract or specification . Any specified or

eliminated or their values or intent agree upon before the test is stared.

4
-number and location of valves or other means required to ensure that no uncounted –for
flow enters oe leaves the test cycle or bypasses any cycle components
-method of handling leakage flows, Orificed continuous drain flows, continuous
blowdowns, ect..to avoid complication in test or the introduction of errors.

6.1.Timing of acceptance test: the acceptance test should be scheduled as soon as

practicable, preferably within eight weeks , after is first put into initial operation under
load
6.2 performance Bench Mark Determinations. It is desirable that a performance bench
mark be established immediately after the turbine place in service, so that the code test
Be delay past eight weeks , there can be reasonable assurance that the turbine has not
been damaged or become fouled with deposits during the intervening period of operation.
6.3 General test Requirments
Designated representative of the parties to the test shall be present to verify that the test is
conducted in accordance with this code and the arrangements made period to the test.
Preliminary tests may be run for the purpose of:
-checking all instruments
-training personnel
-establishing valve points
-determining corrections for deviation of conditions from specified
-confirming cycle isolation
6.4 Isolation of the cycle:
+External Isolation: External isolation deals with the flows which enter and leave the
turbine cycle , such as condensate make-up or boiler blowdown flow. This system
isolation shall be effected so that the difference between the sums of the measured
storage and the entering and leaving flows is minimized. The uncounted –for leakage
shall not exceed 0.1 percent of the test throttle flow at full load.
Water strorage in the condenser, dearating, and other extraction feedwater heaters, steam
generators drums, moisture separators and any other storage points within the cycle are
to be taken in to account.
+Internal Isolation: Internal isolation deals with the flows which do not enter or leave the
turbine cycle but may bypass the component they were designed to go through.
Examples of such flows are steam line drain flows to condenser or feedwater heater
bypass flow.
+Flows that shall be isolate ( all 36 iterm)
+for the full scale test , when it is impossible to measure shaft packing leakage , internal
turbine leakage, and turbine drain flows, it will be necessary to use calculated values.

6.5 Location of turbine valve points: The method used to establish turbine valve points
depends on valve point definition. A valve point may be established in iterms of high
pressure turbine efficiency, certain measured turbine pressure, or valve –stem positions.
The turbine is then tested accordingly.

6.6 Testing conditions

-Constancy of test Conditions, preparatory to any test run, the turbine and all associated
equipment shall be operated for a sufficient time to attain steady-state condition. Steady-

6
state conditions shall have been attained . Appropriate means shall be employed for
securing constant load. This may be accomplished by looking the valve-gear or control
valve travel in the opening direction at the desired load ,leaving the control valve free to
move in the closing direction in the event upsets or emergency situations.
-Operating conditions: Every effort shall be made to run the test under specified operating
conditions, or as close to specified operating conditions as possible in oder to avoid the
application of correction to test results, or minimize the magnitude of the corrections.
