ePortfolio Reflection
“Choose one of your two news analysis assignments from this semester as your signature
assignment and answer the following reflection questions. Post the news analysis and your
reflection to your e-portfolio.”
Reflection indicator 1. Did your article, or the things you saw in your search for articles,
change the way you think about science? Definitely yes, I had listened and read about
research, but I had not read in depth everything that this involves; scientific method,
calculations, tests, experiments, results, scientific explanations, and more, however in the
Analysis number 2, I gave myself the task of looking beyond the simple news, and I could really
see the amount of information that emerges from this investigation only, and that also
contributes a lot of data for future investigations. Did you see evidence of scientists actively
involved in public policy debates, and were you surprised by their level of defense? Not in the
specific news that I reviewed.
Indication of reflection 2. Discuss how your article made connections with another discipline,
such as business, government, politics, economics or humanities. If you did not make any
connection to other disciplines, discuss a connection you could have made. One way of
connecting it with a different discipline is what I have discussed in my Management Direction
class, it is said that a business should always be profitable if it is not, then it is not a business.
Many laboratories have stopped doing research because for them it means investing a lot of
money, money that could not be recovered as soon as possible and that would not be earning
dividends. For that reason, the universities and some associations are the ones that are
investing in this research. My article shows an example of a University doing the research that a
business chose not to do.
Furthermore, in my Humanities class, we studied something called Responses to Nature, in
which we talked about the benefits that technology and communications have brought to
mankind, scientists have intervened or participated in many different areas a few examples are
transgenic developments, in the automotive industry, and in the cell phone industry. However,
there is a suspicion that these new methods, new resources or new inventions affect the health
of people, causing serious diseases such as autism and Alzheimer's therefore this research
could be the one to determine if these diseases are reactive with transgenics, new technologies
and communications.
Reflection indicator 3. Describe how the class in general has impacted your views on science,
the human body and human impacts on the planet. I am very excited for how much this class
has impacted my life, although many years ago I had already studied this subject, what I have
learned today leaves me with a lot of resources and knowledge that I can use in the future.
Today we have a lot of information that we can access immediately, we have the knowledge at
the tip of our hand.
I would dare to say that my professional career choice is wrong, I love science! The human body
is wonderful. It is a perfect machine, each part in it has a function and it is extremely important
for the good performance of the body systems. The impact of science on humanity in the planet
seems to be positive, because of advances in technology, in the best quality of life for human
beings, and in other branches, however, the trash of those advances in science and technology
are making our planet a garbage dump and are adding to the global warming of the planet.
Today the scientists have the task of creating improvements, but without harming the planet or
the living beings on it.
