METAL FABRICATIONS
1. GENERAL
1.1 Contract Documents
1.1.1 All Work of this Section shall comply with the requirements of the Contract
Documents for the Main Building Works, with the Drawings, Schedules, and with
all other Contract Documents.
1.2 Work Included
Works shall include but not be limited to the following:-
1.2.1 Light steel framing, not specified elsewhere; including loose bracing, angle
framing, and counter supports
1.2.2 Steel ladders
1.2.3 Steel gratings and frames

1.4 Quality Assurance
1.4.1 General
a) Work of this Section shall be fabricated and installed by an experienced
fabricator or manufacturer, who has been engaged in work of equivalent
scope and fabrication standards.
b) Materials, methods of fabrication, fittings, assembly, bracing, supporting,
fastening, operating devices, and erection shall be in accordance with
Drawings and Specifications, approved shop drawings, and be of highest
quality practices of the industry.
c) Use new and clean materials as specified, having structural properties
sufficient to safety sustain or withstand stresses and strains to which
materials and assembled work will be subjected.
d) All work shall be accurately and neatly fabricated, assembled and erected.
1.4.2 Shop Assembly:
Insofar as practicable, fitting and assembly of work shall be done in shop.
a) Work that cannot be permanently shop-assembled, shall be completely
assembled, marked and disassembled in shop before shipment to insure
proper assembly on site.
b) Shop assemble work in largest practical sizes to minimize site work.
c) It is the responsibility of the Contractor for this work to assure himself that
the shop fabricated items will properly fit the site condition. In event that
shop-fabricated items do not fit the site condition, the item shall be
returned to the shop for correction, revised and refitted, at no additional
cost to the Employer.
1.4.3 X-Ray Testing of Welds
Comply with all testing of welds requirements under the Structural Steelwork
Specification.
1.4.4 Conflicts:
In case of conflict between the referenced codes and standards, the one having
more stringent requirements shall apply.

1.4.5 Design Requirements:
The Work of this Section shall include engineering and design of items for
fabrication not otherwise sized or indicated on the Drawings. Engineering of
components and systems shall be by a registered Professional Engineer
acceptable by the Architect.
1.4.6 Site measurements:
If construction process permits, take site measurements prior to preparation of
shop drawings and fabrication. Do not delay job progress. Allow for trimming and
fitting wherever taking site measurements.
1.4.7 Qualifications of welders:
Use only certified welders that must be pre-qualified prior to all welding performed
in connection with the work of this Section. Protect adjacent surfaces when site
welding to prevent damage or stain.
1.4.8 Reference Standards
Refer to Section 01 42 19 Reference Standards to comply with the requirements
of the referenced Standards.
1.5 Structural Loadings
1.5.1 Stair assemblies, railings, catwalks, platforms, horizontal grilles, etc shall be
constructed to conform to the following performance standards.
a) Weight of Construction:
The weight of structural steel railing, miscellaneous metal supports and
the like shall not exceed 2.5kPa. for intermediate landings and for the
horizontal projected areas of stairs.
b) Loads
i) Stairs, railings, catwalks, platforms, gratings and horizontal grilles
shall be designed for all dead loads, live loads required by
building codes, and not less than the following imposed loads:
Uniform distributed load 1 KN/m c/s, 1.5 kPa. Concentrated point
load (non-simultaneous with uniform load): 1 KN at 1m centres.
ii) Railings and barriers shall be designed/fabricated in accordance
with building codes and not less than for a horizontal uniform load
of 0.75 kN/m or a horizontal point load of 0.9 kN, whichever is
more critical.
The Contractor shall verify with structural calculations from
qualified and licenced structural engineer that this minimum
structural strength requirement has been achieved for each type
of railing/barrier shown in drawings and installed on site.
c) Material Strengths
i) Structural steel, railings: Yield strength = 250 MPa or higher.
d) Codes:
Design of all elements shall conform to the requirements of the Local
codes and Regulations and other applicable requirements. No increase
in allowable stresses will be permitted for the loadings specified herein.

1.6 Submittals
1.6.1 Shop Drawings:
Submit for all items of work specified herein, showing materials, thickness,
finishes, dimensions, construction, relation to adjoining construction, erection
details, profiles, jointing and all other drawings and details required to fully
illustrate work of this Section. All special details to be submitted at a scale not
less than one half full size.
a) For structural or miscellaneous metal framing include steel grades, weight
of members, sizes and extent of welds and show any temporary members
or connections which may be required for erection. Submit calculations
for connections upon request.
b) For expansion joint systems, show location layout of all joints and
conditions and indicate details for installation and transition from condition
to condition including relationship to adjacent finish materials.
1.6.2 Samples:
Submit samples of the following :
a) Steel pipe railings, posts, handrails and brackets :
Representative assembled section.
b) Access Panels:
Complete unit.
c) Interior or exterior Expansion Joint:
Each type, 300 mm long.
d) Grilles:
Each type 300 mm x 300 mm.
e) Louvres:
Each type 300 mm x 300 mm.
f) Gratings:
Each type 300 mm x 300 mm.
g) All other representative samples, requested by the Architect, to indicate
materials and finishes.
1.6.3 Contractor’s PE endorsed design and calculations for all secondary steel
structures and frames.
1.6.4 Schedules of Items:
Submit to show all locations, types, profiles and sizes :
a) Access panels (coordinate with access panels provided by mechanical
trades).
b) Louvres and grilles.
c) Gratings.

1.6.5 Indemnities and Warrenties for :
a) Galvanising to Metalworks (10 years)
Prior to commencement of the galvanising to metalworks, the Contractor
shall provide to the Employer a 10-years indemnity and warranty against
any corrosion in the metalwork, defect, deterioration, failure, lack of
fitness, non-satisfaction of performance specifications or other
requirements under the Contract or other faults in the galvanising work.
The Contractor will be required to remedy, repair and make good any
defects or damage during the indemnity period.
b) Painting to External Metalworks (5 years)
Prior to commencement of each of the Metalworks, the Contractor shall
provide to the Employer a 5-years indemnity and warranty against any
corrosion in the metalwork, defect, deterioration, failure, lack of fitness,
non-satisfaction of performance specifications or other requirements
under the Contract or other faults including corrosion in the painting work.
The Contractor will be required to remedy, repair and make good any
defects or damage during the indemnity period.
If, in the opinion of the Contractor, the foregoing Specifications are insufficient for
him to provide the indemnity and warranty, then he shall allow in his tender for
upgrading the Specifications as necessary to enable him to so indemnify.

2.2 Materials
The following materials must conform to the applicable standards stated herein Reference
Standards
2.2.1 Steel Structural I sections, angles, tees, and channel.
2.2.2 Steel, Sheet - Thickness suitable for application
2.2.3 Steel Pipe diameters as shown on the drawings.
2.2.4 Austenitic Stainless Steel, Sheet and Bar.
2.2.5 Galvanised, Low Carbon Steel Threaded Bolts.
2.2.6 Austenitic, Stainless Steel Threaded Bolts.
2.2.7 Sectional and Sheet Aluminium (grade 6063F) to sizes shown on the drawings.
2.2.8 Stud bolts and concrete anchors, Galvanised.
2.3 Fabrication
2.3.1 Cutting :
Cut metal by sawing, shearing, or blanking. Flame cutting will be permitted only
if cut edges are ground back to clean, smooth edges. Make cuts accurate, clean,
sharp, square and free of burrs, without deforming adjacent surfaces or metals.
2.3.2 Holes :
Drill or cleanly punch holes (do not burn), so that holes will be accurate, clean,
neat and sharp without deforming adjacent surfaces or metals.
2.3.3 Connections :
Make connections with tight joints capable of developing full strength of member,
flush unless indicated otherwise, formed to exclude water where exposed to water.
Locate joints where indicated on drawings. Provide connections to allow for
thermal movement of metal at locations and by approved methods. For work
exposed to view, use concealed fasteners (unless welded or other connections
indicated) with joints accurately fitted, flush, and rigidly secured with hairline
contacts.
a) Welding :
Provide in accordance with recommendations of the American Welding
Society and relevant British Standards with electrodes and/or methods
recommended by the manufacturers of the metals being welded. Welds
shall be continuous, except where spot welding is specifically permitted.
i) Welds exposed to view shall be ground flush and dressed smooth
with and to match finish of adjoining surfaces so that joint will not
be visible ; undercut metal edges where welds are required to be
ground flush and dressed smooth.
ii) All welds on or behind surfaces which will be exposed to view
shall be executed to result in a finished surface free of
imperfections such as pits, runs, splatter, cracks, warping,
dimpling, depressions or other forms of distortion or
discolouration. Remove weld spatter and welding oxides from all
welded surfaces.

b) Bolts and Screws :
Make threaded connections tight with threads entirely concealed. Use
lock nuts. Bolts and screw heads, where shown to be exposed to view,
shall be flat and countersunk. Cut off projecting ends of exposed bolts
and screws flush with nuts or adjacent metal.
2.3.4 Operating Mechanism :
Operating devices, mechanism and hardware used in connection with this work
shall be fabricated, assembled, installed and adjusted after installation so that they
will operate smoothly, freely, noiselessly and without excessive friction.
2.3.5 Built-In-Work :
Furnish anchor bolts, inserts, plates, and any other anchorage devices, and all
other items for metal work to be built into concrete, masonry or work of other
trades, with necessary templates and instructions, and in ample time to facilitate
proper placing and installation.
2.3.6 Supplementary Parts :
Provide as necessary to complete each item of work, even though such
supplementary parts are not shown or specified.
2.3.7 Coordination :
Accurately cut, fit, drill and tap work of this Section to accommodate and fit work
of other trades. Furnish or obtain, as applicable, templates and drawings to or
from applicable trades for proper coordination of this work.
2.3.8 Exposed Work :
In addition to requirements specified herein or shown on drawings, all surfaces
exposed to view shall be clean, and free form dirt, stains, grease, scratches,
distortions, waves, dents, buckles, tool marks, burrs, and other defects which mar
appearance of finished work.
a) Metal work exposed to view shall be straight and true to line or curve,
smooth arises and angles as sharp as practicable, miters formed in true
alignment, profiles accurately intersecting, and with joints carefully
matched to produce continuity of line and design.
b) Exposed fastenings, where permitted, shall be of the same material,
colour, and finish as the metal to which applied, unless otherwise
indicated, and shall be of the smallest practicable size.
2.4 Protective Coatings for Steelwork
2.4.1 Prime Painting - refer to Section 09 80 00 - Painting.
2.4.2 Galvanising
a) Scope: All ferrous metals other than stainless steel shall be cleaned and
then hot-dipped galvanised after fabrication.
b) Cleaning: Thoroughly clean metal surfaces of all mill scale, rust, dirt,
grease, oil, moisture and other contaminants prior to galvanizing.
c) Galvanizing to meet standards listed in Reference Standards.
2.5 Dissimilar Material Contact
2.5.1 Contact Conditions Requiring Protection
a) Whenever dissimilar metals will be in contact.
b) Wherever aluminium metals will be in contact with or embedded in
concrete, cement, mortar, plaster, or masonry.

2.5.2 Application
a) Separate contact surfaces by coating each contact surface prior to
assembly or installation with one coat of specified bituminous paint or zinc
chromate primer.
b) Protective Coating shall be in addition to the specified shop prime paint.
Mask off those surfaces not required to receive protective coating.
c) Separate dissimilar non-compatible metals by providing separation
barriers to prevent any galvanic or similar reaction from occurring.
3. EXECUTION
3.1 General Installation
3.1.1 General
Install work of this Section square, plumb, straight, true to line or radius, accurately
fitted and located, with flush tight hairline joints (except as indicated otherwise or
to allow for thermal movement), with provisions for other trades, with provisions to
allow for thermal movement, with provision to exclude water where exposed to the
weather, and with attachment advises as required for secure and rigid installation.
3.1.2 Attachments
a) Unless indicated otherwise, work to be built into concrete or masonry shall
be anchored with shop-welded-on steel strap anchors, work to be
attached to concrete or masonry shall be anchored by bolts into
embedded metal inserts or expansion shields.
b) Work attached to ferrous metal shall be anchored by welds or bolts.
c) Work attached to metals other than ferrous metal shall be anchored by
bolts or screws.
d) All attachment devices shall be of type, size and spacing to suit condition
and as agreed by Architect. Power-actuated fasteners not permitted,
unless agreed by Architect for each condition of use.
e) Provide shims, slotted holes, or other means necessary for leveling,
plumbing and other required adjustments. Non-metallic shims will not be
permitted.
f) Steel attachment devices for exterior steel works and for galvanised shall
be hot dipped galvanised.
g) Attachment devices for work exposed to view shall be concealed, unless
indicated otherwise ; all other attachment devices shall be located where
least conspicuous. Where bolts or screws are permitted in work exposed
to view, they shall be flat and countersunk, with projecting ends cut off
flush with nuts or adjacent material and finished to match adjacent work.
h) Do all necessary drilling, tapping, cutting or other preparations of
surrounding construction in the field accurately, neatly and as necessary
for the attachment and support of work of this Section, but obtain
Architect's confirmation prior to such preparations to work of others.
3.1.3 Site Painting
See Item 2.4 above and Section 09 80 00, Painting.
3.1.4 Do not cut or abrade finishes which cannot be completely restored in the field.
Return items with such finishes to the shop for required alterations, followed by
complete refinishing or provide new units at Contractor's option.

3.1.5 Site Welding:
Comply with Standards in Reference Standards and Section 1.4 above for the
procedures of manual shielded metal-arc welding, the appearance and quality of
welds made, and the methods used in correcting welding work.
3.2 Items of Miscellaneous Metals
3.2.1 Miscellaneous Steel Framing
a) Framing, bracing, supports, clip angles, shelf angles, plates, etc., shall be
of such shapes and sizes as indicated on the drawings and details, or as
required to suit the condition and shall be provided with all necessary
supports and reinforcing, such as hangers, braces, struts, clip angles,
anchors, bolts, nuts, welds and the like, as required to properly support
and rigidly fasten and anchor same in place and to steel, concrete,
masonry and all other connecting and adjoining work.
b) Framing steel shall be furnished in accordance with the applicable
requirements of the "Specifications for the Design, Fabrication, and
Erection of Structural Steel for Buildings" by the American Institute of
Steel Construction and as herein specified.
3.2.2 Steel Ladders
a) Vertical steel ladders shall be a minimum 450 mm wide with 19 mm
diameter non-slip steel rungs spaced 300 mm o.c. Stringers shall be 9
mm thick by 62 mm wide steel bars; rungs welded to bars.
b) Install ladders with attachments to walls 150 mm from top and bottom and
a maximum 900 mm o.c. from these top and bottom locations.
3.2.3 Steel Gratings, Catwalks and frames
a) General:
Provide gratings complete with frames having welded-on anchors, frame
corners mitred and flush welded and hot-dip galvanised.
b) Steel Gratings:
Electro-pressure welded galvanised steel gratings, with plain bearing bars
and rectangular plain cross bars, bearing bars spaced 30 mm o.c. and
cross bars spaced 100 mm o.c, edge banded at pedestrian gratings shall
be areas space bearing bars 12 mm o.c. and cross bars 100 mm o.c.
c) Grating Area Access:
Provide hinged sections in gratings for each grating area requiring access.
Each hinged section shall be provided with two five-knuckle, fast, pin,
regular weight, plain bearing, non-corrosive hinges. Hinged sections shall
have provisions for padlocking on the underside, where required for
security.
d) Roadway Type Trench Gratings:
Gratings shall be of galvanised ductile iron, heavy duty, designed for
roadway use.Grating configuration shall be as shown on the drawings.
Provide lengths of covers in minimum 60cm sections. Covers shall be
open type with maximum 25mm opening width. Frames shall be
galvanised ductile iron angles, single lengths of 3m, complete with
anchors.
All trench grating components shall be finished with bituminous paint.
Set frames for roadway trench gratings prior to placing adjacent surfaces.
Set to align gratings with roadway surface. Set gratings in place
immediately after placing of adjacent paving surfaces.

3.2.4 Steel Pipe Handrails
a) Provide, to diameters as shown on the Drawings; steel pipe, in
accordance with ASTM Standard Schedule 40. Bracket design shall be
as detailed on Drawings or subject to approval.
b) Construction:
Form direction changes in rails using solid bar stock or elbows.
Connections shall be shop welded and ground smooth and flush, except
where site connections and expansion joints are required. Site
connections may be welded, internal sleeve and plug weld or internal
sleeve and set screw.
c) Secure handrails to walls with wall brackets. Coordinate bracket spacing
to meet architectural alignments as shown or otherwise required by
Architect for project conditions.
i) Drill wall plate portion of the bracket into concrete to receive
expansion bolts for concealed anchorage.
ii) For installation in drywall, furnish to work of gypsum drywall
(Section 09 50 00) a steel plate to receive wall plate portion of
bracket and anchor or bolt wall plate through drywall to supporting
steel plate.
iii) Locate brackets at not more than 1500 mm o.c. unless otherwise
shown.
d) Provide wall return fitting, flush-type, with the same projection as that
specified for wall brackets.
e) Longitudinal members shall be parallel with each other and with floor
surface or shape of stair to a tolerance of 3 mm in each 3000 mm length.
Centre line of members within each run of railing shall lie in the same
vertical plane.
f) Post Anchorage
i) Side mount to concrete stair construction with post welded to side
mount bracket. Bracket shall be expansion bolted to concrete or
at Contractor's option may be welded to steel plate, cast-in, and
set flush to concrete surfaces.
ii) For steel pipe posts set in concrete, anchor posts in concrete by
means of pipe sleeves set and anchored into concrete. Provide
sleeves of galvanised steel pipe, not less than 150 mm long, and
having an inside diameter not less than 12 mm greater than
outside diameter of the inserted pipe. Provide steel plate closure
secured to bottom of sleeve and of width and length not less than
25 mm greater than outside diameter of sleeve. After posts have
been inserted into sleeves, fill annular space between post and
sleeve solid with non-shrink, non-ferrous grout. Cover anchorage
joint with a round steel flange welded to post.
iii) Posts shall be set plumb within 3 mm vertical tolerance for full
post height.
3.2.5 Access Panels
a) General:
Coordinate with mechanical trades for access panels locations to be
furnished as specified in the Mechanical Specifications.
i) Furnish access panels not provided by other trades.

ii) Install all access panels, including panels furnished elsewhere, in
walls and ceilings where access is required.
iii) Sizes and locations of access panels and doors shall be
coordinated with the trades whose work requires access, exact
location shall be reviewed by Architect. Access panels and doors
shall all be of the same type for similar conditions of use, or
viewing exposure, and shall be of the same manufacturer.
b) For Concealed Spaces or Services Areas Only
i) Types:
Access panels and doors shall be steel, frame: 16 gauge, doors:
14 gauge steel, with concealed hinges, with flush screwdriver
operated steel cam locks (number of locks sufficient to keep panel
or door flat and flush). Access panels and doors shall be by
Milcor, Karp, or approved equal of other manufacturers. No
exposed hinges permitted. Panels and doors shall be shop
primed
ii) In Wall Board Surfaces: Inryco, Inc. "Milcor" Style DW steel
access door or approved equal.
iii) In Masonry or Concrete Surfaces:
Inryco, Inc. "Milcor" Style M steel access door or approved
equivalent.
iv) Fire-Rated Access Panels and Doors:
Where access panel or door is required in fire-rated construction,
provide access panel or door having Underwriters' Laboratories
1-1/2 hour or BS 476 "B" label, of Milcor, or approved equal.
c) Access Panels in Exposed Areas
i) Provide "Milcor", Style ATR; approved equal or special fabricated,
steel access panels, minimum 16 mm. Panels shall be size as
shown, shop primed, double hinged (concealed) with latch; and
for installation in gypsum board or as shown on the drawings.
Panels shall be manufactured with a recessed pan to receive
gypsum board infill as shown and shall include all accessories.
ii) Access panels shall not be required in concealed spline with
accessible panels or loose laid acoustical ceiling systems.
3.2.6 Steel Corner Guards
a) Provide steel corner guards complete with welded-on anchors as detailed,
at all locations, shown on the Drawings.
b) Steel corner guards to be furnished to the respective trades for building
into masonry and/or concrete work, at all locations shown on the
Drawings.
3.2.7 Steel Stairs
a) At location shown on the Drawings furnish and install steel stair
construction including treads, risers and formed platforms.
b) Stair shall be complete with steel stringers, custom formed steel
platforms, tread and riser, intermediate stringers for steel pan supports,
all clip angles, bolts, anchors, etc. required to complete the construction
as detailed.

c) Steel treads and risers shall not be less than 9.5 mm steel plate formed
to profile shown on the drawings, complete with welded on anchors for
engaging mortar fill.
d) Entire stair assembly shall be shop fabricated, in a welded assembly,
galvanised, shop primed and delivered as one unit for field erection.
3.2.8 Weatherproof Aluminium Louvres
a) The Contractor shall provide architecturally streamlined appearance
models of weatherproof extruded aluminium louvres in PVF2 matt finishes
for both intake and exhaust ventilation with bird screens. The metal
louvres may be specially designed by the Contractor, or a patented
system (e.g. Colt or Interlock), or an approved proprietary system, any of
which shall be required to meet the performance criteria as specified.
b) Aluminium blades shall be of 6063 T5 grade minimum 1.5mm thickness at
450 angle and with profile. Aluminium frame shall be of 6063 t5 grade
minimum 2mm thickness.
c) Bird screen shall be of stainless steel fine mesh 12.5mm x 12.5mm x
1.42mm.
d) All finish sizes shall be in accordance with the louvre schedule. However,
the Contractor shall be responsible for verifying that clear openings of
louvres (free area) for naturally ventilated rooms comply with Authorities
requirements.
e) The corners of the louvre frames shall be reinforced with concealed
aluminium angle plates in PVF2 matt finish so that no fixings are visible
on the face. The blades shall be fixed to the frames with self-tapping
screws from back of frames.
f) All exhaust louvres shall provide 45% free area as effective opening
inclusive of the bird screens installation. All fresh air intake louvres shall
provide 45% free area inclusive of the bird screens installation. The louvre
spacing shall be determined by these criteria.
g) The performance test for water penetration and rejection test shall be
determined by AMCI Standard 500-75 Test and Methods, or alternatively
by ANSI/ASTM B117-73 Standard Method of Salt Spray (FOG) Testing
and the Australian AS204701977 Water Penetration Testing criteria, or
any other approved and recognized test standards. The metal louvres
design shall be required to pass the proof test as defined and specified in
this Specification.
3.2.9 Cast Aluminium thresholds and weather strippings.
a) Supply and install cast aluminium thresholds and weather strippings as
shown on Drawings and to manufacturers’ recommendations.
3.2.10 Lavatory Counter Supports:
a) Provide lavatory counter supports in all toilets in accordance with details
shown on Drawings.
b) The support components shall be welded into a single unitized frame
assembly for each lavatory counter using steel angles of sizes indicated.
Adjust location of intermediate support bracket as required to suit
individual conditions before welding in place.
c) After welding and prior to installation, the support assemblies shall be
prime coated with a zinc rich epoxy primer. Subsequent enamel finishing
coats shall be applied after installation under the provisions of Section
09900 - Painting.

3.2.11 Cast iron tree grilles
a) Cast iron grilles shall be Phosco CU square tree grille size 1200 x 1200mm,
Model 439 by Streetscene Limited or approved equivalent or as otherwise
shown on drawings.
3.2.12 Stainless Steel Bollards
Interior and exterior stainless steel bollards shall be as shown on the drawings or
as subject to the Architect’s approval, installed in accordance to the
manufacturer’s instructions.
3.2.13 Galvanised welded wire security mesh
Mesh for installation between full height dry wall partitions shall be 1/2inch x
1/2inch 16 gauge galvanised welded wire security mesh installed in accordance
with the manufacturer’s recommendations and as shown on the drawings. The
mesh shall be fixed to and include vertical frames, horizontal frames, centre
stiffeners, top capping bars, floor shoes, corner posts and all hardware and
anchors, size and gauges as recommended by the manufacturer, for a complete
installation. The welded wire mesh security partitions shall be erected plumb,
rigid, properly aligned and securely fastened in place. Provide additional field
bracing as necessary for rigid, secure installation
3.2.14 Secondary steel structures supporting drywall partitions and mass ceiling
enclosure.
Provide all necessary secondary steel structures and/or frames based on
Contractor’s PE design and calculations.
3.3 Miscellaneous Steelwork
3.3.1 All steelwork exposed to view shall be furnished and installed as part of the work
of this Section and shall be installed, treated and primed as "Miscellaneous
Steelwork".
3.3.2 Submit complete, detailed shop drawings and samples for all "Miscellaneous
Steelwork" prior to fabrication.
3.3.3 Install work of this Section square, plumb, straight, true to line or radius, accurately
fitted and located, with flush tight hairline joints (except as indicated otherwise or
to allow for thermal movement), with provisions for other trades, with provisions to
allow for thermal movement, with provisions to exclude water where exposed to
the weather, and with attachment devices as required for secure and rigid
installation.
3.3.4 It is the responsibility of the miscellaneous metal erector to assure himself that
shop fabricated architectural metal items and supports will properly fit the field
condition and adjacent framing. Any shop fabricated architectural metal item that
does not fit the field condition shall be returned to the shop for correction.
3.3.5 All attachment devices shall be of type, size and spacing to suit condition and as
agreed. Provide shims, slotted holes, steel tubes and sleeves or other means
necessary for levelling, plumbing and other required adjustments in compliance
with details shown on shop drawings submitted for approval.
a) Attachment devices for work exposed to view shall be concealed, unless
indicated otherwise; all other attachment devices shall be located where
least conspicuous.
b) Removable items shall be equipped with rigid and secure but easily
demountable attachment devices.
c) Work attached to structural steel shall be anchored by welds unless
otherwise indicated.

3.3.6 Preparation:
Do all necessary drilling, tapping, cutting or other preparations of surrounding
construction on site accurately, neatly and as necessary for the attachment and
support of work of this Section.
3.3.7 Do not cut or abrade finishes which cannot be completely restored on site. Return
items with such finishes to the shop for required alterations, followed by complete
refinishing or provide new units as Contractor's option.
3.3.8 Site Welding:
Comply with AWS Code for the procedures of manual shielded metal-arc welding,
the appearance and quality of welds made, and the methods used in correcting
welding work.
3.3.9 Restore protective coverings which have been damaged during shipment or
installation of the work. Remove protective coverings only when there is no
possibility of damage from other work yet to be performed at the same location.
3.3.10 Retain protective coverings intact and remove simultaneously from similarly
finished items to avoid non-uniformity of appearance through different exposure.
