Dear Pastor Stephen Tolan,

As a regular attendee of Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church, I have noticed that there are no recycle
bins located on the campus. I encourage you and the rest of the Mt. Zion staff to pursue a
proposal for the addition of recycle bins to be placed around the campus to encourage all
attendees of the facility to recycle.

I am an advocate for the addition of recycle bins in all facilities that do not currently promote or
encourage recycling. Every item that is recycled increases the overall sustainability of the
environment due to the decrease in environmental degradation. Recycling will reduce the
amount of pollution in our environment by: decreasing use of landfills, decreasing possible
hazardous runoff, and by decreasing waste production by changing them into new products.

There are consequences of not recycling. Increase use of landfills will cause an increase in the
amount of waste produced. This waste produced causes catastrophic harm to the environment
that it is placed in. In a landfill nearby streams and water sources can become contaminated
due to runoff and cause harm to wildlife or humans that are dependent on that source of water.
Chemicals and plastics can also seep into the soil and disrupt the natural composition and
make-up of the soil causing less soil fertility.

Overall, there are many consequences that can be avoided if simple steps are taken to recycle,
such as placing recycle bins around the church campus. I ask you to consider my idea for the
protection of the environment God has graciously given to us.

God Bless,

Cole G. Scarlette
