Stars
What are stars? Stars are huge balls of gas in space. They produce heat, light, ultraviolet rays, and
other forms of radiation.

There are too many stars to count. Our universe may contain more than 100 billion galaxies, and
each galaxy might contain over 100 billion stars! If you look at the night sky, you would be able to
see about 3000 stars.

Stars have a life cycle, like humans. Some die a spectacular death by explosion. This is called
Supernova. Many stars die quietly by cooling down to become white dwarfs, eventually fading into
space to become black dwarfs.

Long ago, people saw that the stars were arranged in such a way to make recognizable shapes.
Sailors used these shapes to guide them across the seas. These star shapes are called
constellations.
