Commitment to the Profession

Demonstrates consistent attendance and punctuality

Accepts and respects school based authority structures, and complete reasonable request from school MST and leadership

Is prepared and ready for each lesson

Participates in professional activities across the school

Comments:

Maryam has continued her professional approach to her teaching practice. Not only working towards excellence in
my class but also helping for flag day and within other classes. She is always prepared and ready however she is
also willing to teach without notice. Extremely innovative and creative. Well done!

Planning for Learning

Has completed lesson plan for every lesson, printed and available to MST and MCT upon request

Ensures lesson plans have sufficient detail to secure effective delivery

Includes clear and appropriate learning objectives

Lesson plans include a range of relevant, engaging activities

Comments:

Maryam’s lesson plans are consistently good. She uses the LO according to the national curriculum. Her lesson
today is a direct continuation of the work book. She has spent many weeks with these boys now and has a good
idea of ability and prior knowledge. Her differentiated success criteria allows for all children to feel a sense of
achievement while working towards the same goal. The activity within the book was delivered in a clear and
engaging way.

Managing Learning

Implement a range of classroom routines

Comments:

Maryam has a good repertoire of teaching, learning and classroom management strategies that she is able to
employ depending on how the class are at the start and throughout the lesson. Today she used stickers as a
positive classroom management strategy and was also able in correct inappropriate behavior according to the
school policy. She followed up on this with the social worker who phoned home to parents. Excellent practice for
future teaching.

Implementing Learning

Presents material which is accurate, meaningful and accessible to support student engagement and learning

Implements learning centres/ student-centred work which engages learners & secures learning

Instructions are clear & concise

Comments:

Maryam’s teaching is always well received by the boys. She has a great way of breaking down a
complicated task into easy, manageable steps. The lesson today was predominantly teacher led
without much children interaction however I think that was necessary to introduce such a complex
aspect of the curriculum for the first time. The boys found the new concept extremely challenging
however there were certainly a number of higher ability boys that showed progress and new
learning.

Assessment

Designs & implements simple diagnostic assessment (possibly through questions or a classroom task)

Comments:

Maryam used questioning throughout the lesson to gather good assessment and at a later date will
mark the work that the boys produced. I noticed on one occasion that you asked a question to one
boy (Ismail) and then did not give him time to answer. I understand this is a hard thing to do
especially when you are working so hard to complete the lesson in the time however it is a must. I
also noticed you ask the same boy another question later in the lesson to which he answered
correctly in a more timely fashion. Self-assessment before and after the lesson is good and I was
pleased to see more confident children at the end of your lesson.

Reflection on Practice

Asks a range of questions to guide reflections on her classroom practice

Comments:

How will you support the lower ability children? This is still an issue to think about. Boys like
Khalifa could have benefited from manipulatives or a visual clue on the board for questions like
7-6.

Can you push the more able children through effective differentiation? Also Ahmed A said
beforehand this was easy and sure enough he answered all correctly. How can we effectively push
him and broaden his learning?

Another excellent lesson, above and beyond the expectations of your university, Well done!
