independent sentence writing.
Multiple means of expression: the student will be able to use a graphic organizer or free write their created
sentences.
Multiple means of representation: the students will do a class matching activity, independent writing, and a ticket
out the odor to show their learning.
Lesson idea implementation:
TW go over Anchor chart (reviewing states of matter, determining context clues)
Distribute clip art images of different states of matter
Have students assist with Inspiration creation (insert images of states of matter to the organizer)
SW come up and place where they think their image belongs
TW ask why they think this (use different describing words and characteristics of the objects)

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT)
TW have checklist and listen to students’ discussions of understanding

Model what students should do while passage is being read on doc cam (doing number one on the task sheet
together)
TW reiterate the importance of referring back to the book to looks for clues around the words, as well as pictures)

SW return to desk
TW distribute task sheet that has miniature passages requiring students to use context clues to define the words
being asked. (TW reiterate the importance of referring back to the book to looks for clues around the words, as
well as pictures)
SW complete the task sheet

SW return to carpet, write one thing they learned today

SW discuss thoughts as a whole group

Reflective Practice:

To wrap up the lesson, I will review the anchor chart the students again. I will discuss what they wanted to learn,
and make sure this was covered during the lesson. I will also ask them what something knew was they learned
regarding matter.

For reengagement, I will show the students how they use the pictures to help determine an unknown word. I will
also scaffold students to use the words around the unknown word to help them determine the meaning word. I
will provide guiding questions to students needing more assistance with determining matter objects.

For the students have a strong understanding of context clues, I will supplement some words with more
challenging words in different texts regarding the focus topic, matter. I will provide guiding questions to students
needing more assistance with determining matter objects.
