Section 1: Description of Agency, Community, and project:

The Gilbert Residence is a non-profit organization founded on behalf of William H. Gilbert in

1960. The ongoing goal of this organization is to serve the Ypsilanti community as best as
possible in providing superb housing, assisted living and nursing care for those less fortunate in
the senior community. Although The Gilbert Residence began as a relatively small foundation in
1930, expansions have continuously been made in order to adequately serve the community;
starting in 1960 when the first resident’s moved in, to present day, with a new nursing home and
memory care unit for the facility. Recognized as one of the Best Nursing Homes of 2013 by US
News and World Report, Gilbert Residence is dedicated to continuing a tradition of excellence,
partnered with compassionate caregiving for a more dignified quality of life for older adults.

Section 2: Timeline and Responsibilities

After meeting with Lindsay Mann-Shanahan and Damita Williams, the Public Relations Director
and the HFA Director, respectively, we have decided that the best approach for a project would
be to plan a social event for the residents in the Memory Care wing at Gilbert Residence. The
social event we have picked is Fall Ball 2018. It will be a dance held for the residents on
November 7th from 4-5 p.m. Many residents in the Memory Care Wing have limited
opportunities for physical activity that is also accompanied with a free spirited social
atmosphere, so the goal for this event is to get residents moving and interacting with others.

My responsibilities should include but are not limited to:

 Creating at least one activity/game to engage residents during the dance (to be completed
10/24)
 Creating a music playlist (to be completed 11/2)
 Setting up/decorations (to be completed 11/7)
 Creating and sending flyer invites to Lindsay for distribution (to be completed 10/10)
 Being present to facilitate on the day of the event (to be completed 11/7)
 Promoting the event to potential volunteers (to be completed 10/17)
 Gathering any extra donations for the event (decorations, food) (to be completed by 11/6)

Agency Responsibilities:
 Designating Room/Room availability within facility for the day of the event
 Ensuring adequate number of workers for resident safety during event
 Providing a tool for music during the event (speakers, auxiliary cord)
 Distributing flyers to residents & family
 Validating volunteer hours for any that show up
