PROFESSIONAL SEMESTER THREE: Final Report
University Consultant: Deborah Yawney

Intern Teacher: Jennifer Pelletier-Klapp

University Consultant Comments:

Jennifer was responsible for teaching Grade one at Father Leonard Van Tighem for her third practicum session. She made a
very positive impression on her Teacher Mentor, School Administrator and the other staff at the school.

In my observations, Jennifer was always prepared for her lessons. She began with unit plans in place for her courses and
adjusted and adapted her planning as needed. Her lesson plans were thorough and took into consideration all components of
a successful lesson. She understood the content she was teaching and always looked for new activities to engage the young
students in her class. They in turn, responded enthusiastically to these activities. It was obvious that Jennifer spent
considerable time and effort in planning each of her classes.

Jennifer was very organized and was able to seamlessly lead the students through a series of activities suitable for their age
level. She was very mindful of student needs and incorporated activity and brain breaks into her lessons throughout the day.
Jennifer established classroom rules and expectations early and continued to make changes as needed throughout her
practicum. She had several 'call back' and attention getting strategies to ensure students were quiet and receptive when
instructions were given.

Jennifer considered assessment activities throughout each of her lessons. She used a variety of creative assessments such
as questioning, craft projects, and games to ensure everyone in the classroom understood the concepts taught. She also
maintained records of student accomplishments and created her own assessment tools. In addition, it was clear that Jennifer
valued and encouraged parental involvement through the use and development of a class website where she was able to
share classroom activities and student work on an ongoing basis.

Jennifer behaved in a professional manner at all times. She was able to establish a strong working relationship with her
Teacher Mentor and they had regular conversations about lessons taught. In post observation discussion with Jennifer, she
was always attentive to suggestions provided and eager to understand and try implementing them in her class. She
participated in Professional Development opportunities, extra-curricular duties, supervision, and generally was present and
helped out as much as possible.

Jennifer is a caring and reflective individual and she always showed keen interest in furthering her professional knowledge. It
is clear that she enjoys teaching and she will be a wonderful classroom teacher.
