Ackg. Of opportunity by Rev. Minister, session and the Church.

INTRODUCTION:
Matt 16:24; Jesus said: Take up ur cross & Follow me. ”This is the
greatest calling over all. It is an honor and privilege to be part of God’s
mission, His purpose.
The SUBJECT for discussion today is “CALLED TO SERVE.” Now what is the meaning of
“To SERVE”
1. Act to fulfill a purpose, role, or function
2. Do duty or hold office; perform a specific function
First—why SERVANTHOOD? Christ through the church is the hope of this world and
Christian servants are the hope of the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Heaven.
God has called us to servanthood—this is not negotiable. We follow Jesus in humble and
loving servanthood, as He Himself was the humble Servant. Christian servanthood is not only
serving Jesus, but serving with Jesus. It involves not just being servants of Christ, but
being servants with Christ.
But let’s be honest. Who wants to be a servant?

I. REQUIREMENT OF SERVANTHOOD

A. IT INVOLVES ABSOLUTE OBEDIENCE...

1. In a slave-master relationship...
a. The slave knows no law but his master's word
b. He has no rights of his own

Deu 5:33 (Walk in obedience)

Matthew 20:28 (“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many.” And He was obedient even to death on the
cross for our salvation),

B. IT INVOLVES ABSOLUTE HUMILITY...

Phil 2:8 (And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by
becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Paul's self-estimation - 1 Co 15:9-10 “For I am the least of the apostles,

Matthew 23:11-12 (But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And
whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be
exalted)
Eph 4:2 (Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another
in love.)

Matt. 11:29 (Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and
humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.)

C. IT INVOLVES ABSOLUTE LOYALTY...

1. Since we become servants FREELY, it should be expected that we:
a. Are to be loyal to Him first - cf. Gal. 1:10 “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek
to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
b. Do not consider our own profit or preference important, but that of the One we freely serve!
2. It is amazing how any can claim to be servants of the Lord Jesus Christ, while:
a. Complaining about having to do the will of God, OR...
b. Being negligent or slothful in carrying out His will
3. Yet some act as though they are being forced against their own
will!

IS THERE ANYTHING HOLDING YOU BACK FROM ACCEPTING GOD’S CALL?

A. PEOPLE SERVE BECAUSE OF:
a. As when self-pity affected Elijah - 1 Ki 19:13-18
b. As when some preached Christ out of envy - Ph 1:15-18
c. As when some seek for recognition, praise - Mt 6:1-4
B. PLACING LIMITATIONS ON OUR SERVICE...
When we want to serve: (As Moses tried to do - Exo 3:10,11)
who they will serve ( As Jonah tried to do - Jonah 1:1-3
C. POSSESSING CERTAIN ATTITUDES...
1. Such as sluggishness and laziness - cf. He 6:11-12; Mt 25:26
2. Such as ingratitude - cf. 2 Co 8:9; Ph 2:5-7: Which often comes when we forget how
graciously we have been served
But in all things;
You need No Title to render a service
It’s impossible to build a tribute to success on the foundation of excuses. Never play victim,
show leadership.
Every one of us alive with life can passionately drive positive change in the face of negative
conditions. And you need no title to do that;
Albert Schweitzer once said, “I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the
only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found a way to
serve.”
THE BLESSINGS OF CALLINGS
A call to serve is an invitation from Heavenly Father to gives us opportunities to grow stronger
spiritually, to wax strong in spirit, filled with greater wisdom and the grace, peace and joy of
eternal progression. It is a call to overcome fear with faith and to learn greater humility as we
accept the Lord’s will and to be part of the miracle and wonder of this great cause and kingdom
that is sweeping over the earth, blessing the lives of people wherever it reaches.

IN CONCLUSION
There is an urgent calling from the commanding office to get all the reserve to active duty.
You cannot sleep now, you have to drop all your plans and listen to the voice of the commander.
Your priority cannot interfere with the security of the land.
You have no excuse
The call is to report to duty.
You are not in a defeated army.

We are called to maintain and improve social conditions of society for the Kingdom
of God. We are commanded to create new social values, based on biblical
principles. We are commissioned to become change agents through serving
Christianity.

DECLARATION:
I am not an ordinary citizen, I am a soldier in the Lord’s army and the Word of God is with me. I
have a higher calling. A Calling with a purpose
The Battle is already won, expand the territory, expand your joy and expand the Kingdom of
God. The Blood of Jesus Christ is available. I have faith and I am fully armed and dangerous to
the enemy. Victory is mine because I serve a victorious King, We will conquer. We will take
back everything enemy took from our lives.
We will not be defeated. This is the Lord’s Battle and we shall be Victorious.
NB//:The more you give, the more blessed you will be. It’s what the call to serve is all about.
Amen.
