1. Is the random sample size of 70 boxes enough?

Result Sampling Plan

Sample Size 80

Critical Value 7

Actual Producer's risk 0.0466

Actual Consumer's risk 0.0727

The table 1 shows the result in the sample size (n), it shows that 70 boxes

of sample size (n) is not enough to represent the population (N=3,000). Thus,

Eden Blocks should have a sample size (n) of 80 boxes in order to represent the

entire population (N).

2. Tim decides that if there are more than seven (7) boxes with broken or damage
block the entire lot is not accepted. Is he correct?

Result Sampling Plan

Sample Size 80

Critical Value 7

Actual Producer's risk 0.0466

Actual Consumer's risk 0.0727

The critical value is 7, it just indicates that if the number of boxes with

defects is equal to seven or above, the shipment will be returned to the supplier.

However, Tim’s decision of more than seven (7) is not correct because the critical

value is equal to seven (7). Therefore, the probability of returning the blocks to

supplier will be equal or more than seven (7) number of defects.

3. How much is the probability of actual producer’s and consumer’s risk?

Result Sampling Plan

Sample Size 80

Critical Value 7

Actual Producer's risk 0.0466

Actual Consumer's risk 0.0727

Results shows that there will be a 0.0466 producer’s risk and 0.0727

consumer’s risk with a sample size of 80. Therefore, there is a 4.66% probability

that the good lot will be rejected and 7.27% probability that the bad lot will be

accepted based on the sampling plan.

4. Present an OC and AOQ table and explain

Percent Defective Prob (accept lot) AOQ

0.00 1.00 0.00

0.01 1.00 0.01
0.02 1.00 0.02
0.03 1.00 0.03
0.04 0.99 0.04
0.05 0.95 0.05
0.06 0.89 0.05
0.07 0.80 0.06
0.08 0.69 0.06
0.09 0.57 0.05
0.10 0.45 0.04

Table presented above shows the percent of defective, probability in

accepting the lot and the average outgoing quality. Based on the results, the

probability of accepting the lot in 0, 1%, 2% and 3% defects are 100%.

For instance, the percent defective of incoming lot is 0.06 or 6%, An

operating Characteristics (OC) curve showed the probability of acceptance to be

0.89 or 89%. Using the lot size of 3,000 and a sample of 80, the average

outgoing quality in percent defective is 0.05 or 5%. Thus, an acceptance

sampling plan changes the quality of the lots in percent defective from 6% to 5%

on the average. Acceptance sampling significantly decreases the quality of the

inspected lots.

5. Draw the OC and AOQ curve.

Figure 1. Operating Characteristic Curve Figure 2. Average Outgoing Curve

Figure 1 shows the Operating Characteristics Curve (OC) that describes

how well an acceptance plan discriminates between good and bad lots. It shows

in figure 1 that a good lot for Eden Blocks acceptance plan has less than or equal

to 0.05 or 5% defectives. A bad lot has 0.15 or 15% or more defectives.

Figure 2 shows the Average Outgoing Curve (AOC), it identifies the

largest AOQ value, which is the estimate AOQL. In figure 2, the AOQL is at 0.562

or 0.06 at p = 7.
