REFLECTION

Through spending time in making these activities from constructing a Table of Specification to
item analysis and other requirements for portfolio, I have gained valuable information that I will take with
me into student teaching and my future classroom.

We are required to submit a sample of Table of Specifications and Test Questions from Harold
Naputo. In our first activity, we have to make first a Table of Specification. In table of specifications, we
must list a topics or contents in Economics, so we borrowed a book on Araling Panlipunan about
Economics. So we identified the number of session, the length of the topic, number of items and number
of making an items in relation of cognitive learning domain. In making this table, I realized that it’s not
easy to make test questions. It should have a cognitive learning domain from remembering to creating but
in a selected response test the multiple choice, creating is not required. As we completed the Table of
Specification, we now have to make test questions that is in the form of multiple choice test with 40
items. It is very challenging to make a questions and options. You will have a stem, key and distractors,
especially in making an alternatives. It is time-consuming, and it’s hard to make a option that should be
suitable. After we make test questions, we submitted it to Sir Quayzon and made some corrections. I
learned what are the do’s and don’t’s in constructing an item and making question that has distractors and
that it should not be obvious to choose a correct answer. It is very methodical process of planning a
multiple choice test. Using an appropriate format, using commas, period, question mark, spacing, fonts,
especially the grammar that the students can able to understand. We made at least four alternatives that
you have to think and analyze this items. We submitted again the test questions to Sir Quayzon. And
make some corrections again, we have less adjustments and revision in the items. After that, Sir Quayzon
gave us the review form that should be answered by the instructor under of Social Studies, Mr. Wilan
Badidles. The purpose of review form is to give us a feedback by the instructor if the test items are
grammatically correct, if the distractor plausible to the uninformed and etc. He was approachable that we
had able to give the review form. After two days, we got the review form and corrections, and revised it
again. There were so many corrections of every item that we have to change so we thought another to
have a good item. And after we revised again from Mr. Badidles, we submitted to sir Quayzon, and the
test papers are ready to administer. As we already have a permission to have an administer a test to a
grade 9 students, we went to ILS to consult a teacher so the Sir Badidles gave us another schedule.

A day of administering a test. I learned how to do before giving the test paper like giving
directions, giving rules and etc. While having a test, some students are focused to answer the test, some
are sleepy and they were not taking the test seriously. It was a fair assessment and they cooperate with us
to answer the test. So Sir Badidles informed the students that it will be graded. We gave 60 minutes to
answer the test. After the test, we thanked Sir Badidles for welcoming us and the students. Mr. Badidles
has a 31 students in his class so we were able to administer a test in 31 students only. After we
administered a test, we checked the papers of the students, the lowest is 21 and the highest is 34. These
scores gave us feedback that some students are able to answer our questions about economics. They have
very good scores, so we started an item analysis to determine if the item is good or not. We arranged from
highest to lowest. Half of the students were in a higher group others were in a lower. Making an item
analysis is very time consuming because you will count every item that got correct answer. After we have
a tally, we have now to compute the discrimination index, difficulty index, identify the interpretation,
decision, distractor analysis and conclusion. And in the statistics, from their scores we find a mean,
median, mode.

As a future educator, I will apply this strategy in making a table of specification, analyzing an
item, constructing a questions and etc. In addition, skills obtained through completion of this portfolio can
also assist me when I am constructing appropriate questions. I can choose a balance of reasoning and
knowledge questions and can make sure many different reasoning patterns are being assessed as well.
This activity definitely ensure that assessments arise from and indeed reflect clear learning targets.
I learned a series of different things include item analysis. I was able to expand my knowledge on these
activities. I learned analyzing the test. It gave me the opportunity to practice and better myself in this. I
was able to learn how to do it. I enjoyed making this outputs, I know it will be very useful to me as a
future educator and it was a learning experience for me. Overall, my experience throughout this
portfolio was very effective.
