Design and Fabrication of Three Axis Pneumatic Robotic

Arm for Pick and Place of Cylindrical Objects


ABSTRACT - This project aims to Design and fabricates pneumatic arm for pick and place of
cylindrical objects. Pneumatic robots are essential for material handling in chemical industries
where electric or hydraulic robots are unsuitable due to fire hazard, and the handling of materials
and mechanisms to pick and place of objects from a lower plane to higher plane and are widely
found in factories and industrial manufacturing. Three axes (3 Degrees of Freedom) articulated
pneumatic robotic arm was designed and assembled in this project along with its control
system. The designed pneumatic arm consists of three cylinders, a shaft works with lead screw
mechanism capable of converting motion of the piston to rotational motion of arm with help of
using compressed air. The designed processes are carried out based on integrated information of
kinematics dynamics and structural analysis of the desired robot configuration as a whole. The
highly dynamic pneumatic arm model can be easily set at intermediate positions by regulating
the pressure and were controlled by pneumatic 5/3-way proportional directional control valve the
flow control valve. It can be used in the loading and unloading of goods and as the movement of
goods is done from the lower plane to a higher plane.

 PNEUMATIC CYLINDER:-

This project works on pneumatic cylinder because concept of


project is using pneumatic systems we have to pick object and to place
object. It is work by compressed air which comes from air compressor. There
is many types of pneumatic cylinder but here we use two way type pneumatic
cylinders its photo showing below figure:

way then piston comes in cylinder. This air flows control by manual two-way
