AUTHENTICATION

OF ORIGIN OF NATURAL FIBER IN FINISHED

PROBLEM

The main problem tackled in the

study is that of garment
counterfeiting.
For example: Suppose a company
claims that it is using American
cotton. Then what is the proof
that the cotton used in the
garment is American.

2
OBJECTIVE

To look out for ways to clearly

identify the methods through
which we can track the cotton
from field to finished garment.

9
CLOSE TO AUTHENTICATION

• Close only to the extent if we have to start from the

manufacturing process

• Keeps an automatic track record of how the product or the

fabric has been moved

17
BUT!

• As per the MADE-BY itself, the method

is not 100% full proof

• The main factor is the entry of data

from the side of the stakeholders
– As we can very well understand that the
cotton farmer in India have many a things on
his mind than entering data on the system
– Plus computer literacy also plays a important
role

18
THE DNA
REVOLUTION
19
TWO PLATFORMS

20
SigNature® DNA are unique, botanically
derived markers or “tags” that cannot be
copied and due to their enormous
variability, provide forensic proof of
identity for brand protection.

markers. These are
recorded and saved in
database

22
WHERE ARE THEY APPLIED

• SigNature DNA has been tried and tested in the following

materials, but not limited only to these materials
– Inks (including intaglio, offset, UV),
– Toners,
– Varnishes,
– Adhesives,
– Paints,
– Polymers,
– Laminates,
– Cyanoacrylates and
– Textile treatments

Applied DNA Sciences was the first to
develop proprietary genetic-based
assays and protocols to identify DNA
markers endogenous (internal) to a
particular product in order to
differentiate between biological strains –

28
DNA METHODS CAN BE COMBINED
In the above mentioned technologies one is a
marker to read and identify, the other is a way to
clearly distinguish the native of the natural
material. What if both of these are combined to
make a single platform to attack the menace of
counterfeiting? What if APDN develops a system
wherein just by identifying the marker one can
clearly come to know about the origin of the
natural content used in the product?
Although the above suggestion is merely personal,
but as per the study goes there has to have a
single platform in order to both identify the
authenticity on the place with the place of origin
also.
