Climate Action Plan

1. We have chosen to raise awareness for air quality in Utah, more specifically,
we wanted to focus on the smog-inducing vehicle emissions and their effect
on Utah’s public health.
2. Utah residents are at risk because as winter is now upon us, every day we
see a smoggy sky and more people idle their vehicles to warm them up,
which creates the nasty inversion we experience year after year, only made
worse by the mountains we have that trap it all in the Salt Lake Valley. This
poses a threat to the health of everyone. From babies to the elderly, rich and
poor, this is not a class issue, this is a public health crisis.
3. To take action, we are launching a social media awareness campaign where
we post news and articles about climate change and the pollution hanging
around our city. The way this will help make a difference is by informing the
community around us about what pollution does to the body; when people
are properly informed real change can happen. Along with articles, we are
also making and posting memes and Piktocharts, these two mediums are a
fast and efficient way to get our message out, using an easy to understand
visual appeal.
4. The data needed for this project will be:
a. How pollution affects the body
i. Age
ii. Consequences
b. Where the main sources of pollution are
c. What can the average person do to help
December 2, 2018
David created the Facebook group, “Utah Air Initiative,” and added Destinee,
Kathryn and four other people to this group. We hope we can get more people apart
of this group, sharing data and accurate news articles to inform people of the
impending doom that we may face, and are already feeling the effects of.

Using modern attention-attracting tactics, we have included some memes that are
both relatable and hopefully inspire people to share our content and include others
in the discussion of Utah’s air quality.
December 3, 2018
Kathryn got two other people to join the group and started on the Piktochart

December 4, 2018
Kathryn finished the Piktochart and added a site to look at onto the
Facebook page.
December 5, 2018
David and Destinee added posts to Facebook. Colby and Destinee
created and added pictures to Instagram with informative captions and got other
people to follow the account.
