Learning and Teaching with Preschoolers provides booklets, packets
and lesson plans that will enable children to acquire information
and learn concepts through meaningful hands on activities. All
products will give children a variety of learning experiences.

While using these products teachers will have the opportunity to

observe children as they participate, explore and interact with the
materials. These products will help free up time so that teachers will
be able to collect meaningful anecdotal notes, work samples, and
other evidence that will help show each child’s skills and behaviors.
In order to help meet all State Standards and Assessments tools.

Assessment Tool
Assessments are a vital component for a high-quality early
childhood program. They are an important tool in understanding
and supporting young children's development.

Assessments that are used:

 Observation Notes
 Work Samples
 Checklist
 Parent Questionnaire
 Photos
 School Readiness Assessment data Sheet

Gide for Assessments

 Staff creates a learning environment that supports all
developmental levels of children that are being assessed.

 Staff is consistent with the routine and learning environment to

allow for optimal observations of children.

 Staff uses all assessments tools on a continual bases to provide an

optimal learning environment that will support all developmental
stages.

 Parents can help with their child’s progress by bringing in

observational notes and having conversations with child’s teacher
in regards to what they are seeing at home.
 How to use the school readiness assessment data sheet
 Pull children to your individual learning area
 Have a data sheet for each child
 Point to the different color squares (have child identify the color)
use a checkmark to identify the colors that the child knows.
 Point to the letter and numbers on the identification sheets (have
child identify) use a check mark to identify what the child
knows.
 Have each child write their name on the back of one of the sheets
 Have child do a draw person on the back of one of the sheets
 Conduct this assessment with in the first six weeks of enrollment
 Conduct this assessment at the end of the school year
 Make a copy of the assessment sheets for each child and forward
this information to each child’s kindergarten teacher.
