Acclimation Adjustments- the process by which an organism adjusts to a

change in its environment. EX. Frog will jump out of boliling water bbut if
put in mormal temp. water and slowly heat it, it’ll die.

shyness, emotionality, anxiety

Moral Development- Lawrence Kohlberg that by 13 people should know


right from wrong Individual decisions about right and
wrong relate to rewards and punishments
–follow the rules to avoid punishment
–follow the rules for your personal benefit
Desire to please others
– do good because you want people to respect you and because it’s
expected of you – follow the rules
because society has set the standard.
Belief in morality because it’s the right thing to do
- you’re obliged to follow the rules of society for the benefit of all
-do right because your conscience dictates it’s right

Stages of cognitive development


Level 1: Sensorimotor stage ; development of object permanence
Level 2: Preoperational stage; don’t realize quantity doesn’t change in a
different size glass, etc. Level 3: The Concrete
Operational stage; realize that actions can be reversed by another action
Level 4: The Formal Operational stage; begin to think in the abstract and
develop problem solving skills

Metcognition- knowledge about when and how to use particular strategies


for learning or for problem solving.

Psychosocial stages
Trust vs. Mistrust – children have physical and psychological needs that
need to be met. Autonomy vs. shame/doubt-
experience independence if encouraged and given freedom to do so
Initiative vs. guil- feel guilty when they fail
