Sadhanapada – Time to Work upon Yourself

With the first ever Sadhanapada program at the Isha Yoga Center, over 200 participants from 21 countries
embarked on a transformative period of sadhana, starting from Guru Purnima 2018 until Mahashivaratri 2019.
Get a behind-the-scenes look at their journey, sadhana, and experiences so far.

The First Sadhanapada Program at Isha Yoga Center

This year, for the first time, Sadhguru
offered the possibility for people to
spend the period of Sadhanapada within
the consecrated environs of the Isha
Yoga Center. Over 200 participants from
21 countries embarked on this process,
which started from Guru Purnima on
27 July 2018 and will culminate on
Mahashivaratri on 4 March 2019. The
days of the Sadhanapada participants
are filled with intense sadhana and
volunteering activities (seva), all designed
for inner transformation.

Motivations to Join Sadhanapada

“I’m like manure. If you keep it on your head, it will be

no good. If you look up to it, it will fall on your face.
But if you sink your roots into me, for sure you will
flower.” – Sadhguru
Nora from Germany: “I have done several courses
with Isha and after the Inner Engineering, I really
felt that I wanted to be more in Sadhguru’s presence
and to deepen my Sadhana. Like you know, ‘This is
it. I have to go.’”
Aniruddh from Russia: “I was like, definitely. You
know, it’s a great privilege. Not many people get
the opportunity to come to the Ashram for seven
months, volunteer, get to stay here. It’s just first-
hand experience; it’s amazing.”

Sadhana in the Consecrated Ashram Space

“Its unique energy, structure, and location make the

Isha Yoga Center a tremendously powerful space for
self-transformation.” –Sadhguru
Vivek Rudra from Noida, Uttar Pradesh: “Here, everything
is just effortless. Everything, everyone is just moving in one
direction. And we are in this energy and in this space, which
is just incomparable.”
Gourav Bhura from Jaipur, Rajasthan: “At home, I can be
whichever way I want and just do my practices and carry
on. But in the Ashram, you are being tested every moment.”
Vagisha from Mumbai, Maharashtra: “It’s just very easy to
do Sadhana here – it just flows; it’s not that much effort.
Doing it with focus comes naturally here. It’s beautiful
doing Sadhana here.”

Prithvi Prema Seva: In Touch with the Earth

Participants are regularly

spending time in touch with
the earth. Sadhguru says that
this process is of elemental
importance for the human
system: “Fundamentally, your
whole body is just a play of the
five elements. This elemental
play happens in a more organized
and intense way when you are in
touch with the earth.”

Daily Hatha Yoga practice is an integral part of the
Sadhanapada. Sadhguru says, “The purpose of Hatha
Yoga is to establish a body that is less susceptible to
outside influences – a stable platform to build on.”
Suvarna from Goa: “At home, I just did Hatha Yoga
as an exercise. But when I do it here, at the end of it,
I just don’t want to open my eyes.”
Paulina from Mexico: “It’s a weird sensation being
light like a feather but strong at the same time.”
Shubham from Pune, Maharashtra: “Being a medical
student, it was a great experience for me that if you
twist physically, it could influence your mind.”

Bhakti Sadhana: The Path of Devotion

“Devotion is a way to merge into all that you are in
touch with – breath, work, people, planet, and the
very universe,” Sadhguru says. In Bhakti Sadhana,
bowing down to everything indiscriminately
becomes a way to rise beyond your limitations and
experience a sense of oneness with existence.
Gregg from New Jersey, USA: “I realized that life is
extended past my own boundary, my own mind.
Whereas before, I wasn’t aware of what was taking
place around me. Life is everywhere. Doing and
seeing that is just a huge eye opener.”

Adiyogi Pradakshina: Becoming an Offering

During the Adiyogi Pradakshina, participants
circumambulate Adiyogi, Yogeshwar Linga,
Suryakund or Chandrakund, Trimurti Panel,
Linga Bhairavi, and Dhyanalinga, in order to
become receptive to the energy forms and the

Shailaja from Bilagi, Karnataka: “First I thought it’s so
far, I won’t be able to walk. But it was so effortless.
And when I sat in Dhyanalinga, tears were coming –
with joy or bliss, I don’t know.”
Varun from Bengaluru, Karnataka: “By the time we
finish and reach Dhyanalinga, I just stand there,
and there is this silence. Something within me is
becoming still.”
