INTRODUCTION
According to the World Health Organization, Philippines is 3rd in the highest
number of deaths due to air pollution. In line with this problem, health experts urged
the government to have a plan focusing to the problem in air quality. 45.3 deaths per
100,000 Filipinos due to air pollution based on the report of Dr. Roger Dazo of the
Philippine Medical Association. Passenger vehicles are the major contributor of
nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxides, and other pollution as a major cause of air
pollution. In 2013, transportation vehicles contributed nitrogen oxides and carbon
monoxides half of the components of the air and almost a quarter of hydrocarbons are
emitted in the air.

Another reason for building this project is for the PWD in the Philippines
especially for the persons with out feet.
According to the report Edgardo F. Garcia,
MPA of Deafblind Support Philippines
(2014), with 4,446,649 persons surveyed,
302,421 Filipinos (6.77%) are PWD. An
inspiring story of Tatay Albert Larion, the
“ice candy man” of Camarin, Caloocan City. For over 20 years, he is using an old
wheelchair to sell ice candy to earn money. It was very difficult and dangerous for
him to go around the city with his old wheelchair with fast vehicles just to sell an ice
candy.

With this problems, the proponents of this projects decided to make an

innovations with the typical go kart. The Handicart is transportation vehicle designed

for handicaps like persons with no feet or with no hand also an environment friendly

vehicles because it will not use any batteries and gasoline so will not contribute to the

pollution in the city. It is a combined idea of elliptigo, a special kind of bike made by

Bryan Pate and Brent Teal, founder of Elliptigo Inc., in Solana Beach, USA founded

in 2008, and the idea of ELF, a solar and pedal hybrid vehicle powered by the person
riding on it and the sun. Produced by the company Organic Transit. It doesn’t use

gasoline.

METHODOLOGY

Materials needed for the base of the Mechanicart II:

 4 Tires (Old tires of a kid-type bike)
 Old Bike Chair
 Old Handle Bike
 4 Hinges
 Old iron bar (welded)
 2pcs 10 ft. Palochina

Procedure:
1. Cut the palochina and form as shown in the figure below:
2. Then put the hindges at the back part of the cart.

3. Put on the 2 angle bars in front of the wheel for steering system.

4. When the hindges and angle bars are done, put on the tires.
5. Then put the steering wheel. In case of our group, we use the old bike handle for
steering.

6. Install the steering system of the go Kart.

*Note: We are still having a meeting with the mechanic that helping us to build this
project. The body and the idea if how it will moves of the mechanicart is still in study
of the mechanic. The researchers are still waiting for what is the best materials
considering the cheaper one. But the researchers include the blueprints of the plan.

CONCLUSIONS

 The mechanicart is completely Mechanical in use. It will not use batteries. The
researchers also realized the conservation of Mechanical Energy. It states that
Energy can be created nor destroyed. It only change one form to another form.
An equivalent statement is “the total amount of energy in the universe or in any
isolated system remains constant”. This statement is called the conservation of
energy. A system is considered isolated if it does not absorb or release energy at
the time it is being considered.

 Another one that the researchers realizes is the design of tire. Out of curiosity
why there are spaces in the thread pattern of the tire? The researchers found out
that is because of friction. Friction refers to resistance to motion whenever two
materials or media in contact tend to move or move. Roads are slippery when wet.
The tread design preserves friction between the wet road and the tire. The water
goes to the spaces in the tread pattern instead of coming between the tire surface
and road surface.
 The researchers also saw the physics of torque. Whenever a cyclist applies a force
to the pedal of his bicycle, he is imparting torque to the bicycle. Torque is the
tendency of a force to cause or change the rotational motion of a body. It is a
twist or turning force on an object. Torque is calculated by multiplying force and
distance. It is a vector quantity, meaning it has both a direction and a magnitude.
Either the angular velocity for the moment of inertia of an object is changing, or
both.
