o The DOE website provides educators with various learning opportunities and
resources to continue their learning and use best practices in the classroom. It’s a
great way to stay up to date on the politics and professional side of the education
system.
 Virginia Department of Education: http://www.doe.virginia.gov
o The DOE for Virginia is great resources for Virginia teachers because it lists rules
and regulations educators in Virginia need to follow. Additionally, the DOE for
Virginia has links to the SOLs that educators need to be familiar with so that
students can be prepared for the tests.

Category 2.2: Field-Specific Organizations

 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE): http://www2.ncte.org

o NCTE is a large organization geared towards creating the best English educators
in the nation. It provides learning opportunities, discussions, and resources for
English educators to use.
 Virginia Association of Teachers of English (VATE): http://vate.org
o VATE is a great place for English Educators to congregate as it provides a way
for educators to share resources, meet at the annual conference, and support one
another in the field.

o The Smithsonian Institute supports education by providing a place for interactive
learning and having factual information on global material that is not always
accessible in other places.
 Project Gutenburg: https://www.gutenberg.org
o The Gutenburg project allows educators and students to access online articles and
material. This site supports education as an archive for materials students and
educators may want to utilize in the classroom.
