Lighting Integration Project
Issuance date : 16 / 10 / 2018 @ Week 8
Submission date : 27 / 11 / 2018 @ Week 14
Marks : 30% of final marks

Introduction
This project aims to integrate students' understanding of the principles of lighting design in the context their
final design project of studio 04 / 05. It will encompasses on artificial and daylighting systems also will
implement the PSALI design strategies.

Objectives
The objectives of this project are as follows:

 To show understanding of artificial lighting and daylighting strategies (PSALI) in their final design.
 To solve design problems in relation to sustainability issues (natural lighting, site analysis).
 To design spaces incorporating artificial and daylighting (when necessary).

Tasks & Requirements

Each student is to identify two (2) significant spaces in their final design for implementing the artificial and
the daylighting strategies (PSALI). Students are to produce to followings throughout this project:

1. A brief site analysis

2. Overall floor plan (appropriate scale)
3. Floor plans of ‘Space A’ and ‘Space B’
4. Sections of ‘Space A’ and ‘Space B’
5. Reflected ceiling plans
6. Lighting contours
7. Types of lamps to be used
8. To determine reflectance on walls, ceilings, floors
9. Daylighting calculation
10. Lumen method calculation
11. Lighting design proposal
All of the above are related to your individual building design. Within your building design, you are required
to identify spaces which require artificial lighting and daylighting. Integration must be solution based and you
are advised to incorporate visuals, and related diagrams. Calculations to resolve your design integrations

solutions must be attached in A4 format and to submitted separately with the A1 board. All kind of proposals
need to have a good justification.

Submission
A ‘well composed’ A1 board to be submitted (pin up) and an A4 report on the calculations to be submitted
separately from the board. (Report covers have to be according to the colours for the respective tutors.

Assessment Criteria

1. Choice of spaces (10%)

2. Originality of work (5%)
3. Graphical presentation (15%)
4. Daylighting analysis (PSALI) – Space A (30%)
5. Artificial lighting analysis – Space A & B (30%)
6. Overall design proposal (10%)
