Professional Development Plan

(What do YOU need to work on in order to grow professionally?)

1. Choose and describe an aspect from a teaching competency that you need to work on (Goal)
Assessing students after explaining the lesson

2. Describe what you will do to help achieve your goal (Strategies Used)
 Ask the teacher how she assesses her students learning.
 Roaming around the classroom to check on the students while doing the activity.
 Will ask the students if they need help.

3. Describe how you can tell if you’re achieving your goal (Evidence)

Giving the students cards with smiley face, poker face and sad face (the students will choose the face based on what they
understood from the lesson.)

Grade Level: 2

Subject: English

Learning Outcome:

 By the end of this lesson the students will be able to identify the actions that the family members do in
their house.
 By the end of this lesson the students will be able to contribute between the picture of the action and the
action it self.

Resources Preparation (what do you need to do/make before class?)

actions.
 Father/ mother/ brother/ sister/ grandma/ grandpa

 I play games
 I make cakes
 I watch TV
 I talk
 Fly kites
Opening (warmer activity + teacher introduction/demonstration of small group activities)
Time: 15 min

In the beginning of the class, I will greet the students and will sing hello song. After that I will start refreshing
Whole

the student’s information’s by asking them about what we took last class (I will be expecting from the students
to say the family members names). After refreshing the students information’s, I will warm them up for the
new lesson.

Guided Experience (group working with the teacher)

After the opening, I will play a video for the students that explains the actions of the family members and what
each member does. During playing the video I will be asking the students questions to demonstrate their
understanding of the actions of the family members.

Teacher will:
 Play the video for the students.
 Ask questions while the video is playing to the students.

Students will:
 Watch the video
 Answer the teacher’s questions

Independent Experience (small group activity 1)

The first activity will be in the English activity book (I will be covering the lesson in the book and will do the
Time: 40 min

activities in the second lesson). I will be asking the students to open the book and will give clear instructions
Small

about what they should do, each student will be working individually and after that we will discuss the answers
together. In the activity book, the students will be answering the questions in page 24.

Teacher will:
 Provide clear instructions to the students.
 Give out the books to the students
 Show the page of the book to the students
 Going around the classroom to check on the students learning.

Students will:
 Answer the questions in the book
 Ask for help (if needed)

I will be assessing the students learning by roaming around the classroom and check on every student and I
will ask them if they’re struggling at some point or not.
Independent Experience (small group activity 2)

In the second activity, I will distribute some worksheets for the students in groups, the students should solve
the paper together. After finishing from the worksheet, I will be asking each group about their answers and will
discuss it together. In the worksheet, the groups will be working on two different papers, the first paper is
writing the action based on the displayed pictures (the students will be assed while doing this activity if they
need any help with struggling in it). The other paper is where the students will be matching the actions to the
picture based on it.

Teacher will:
 Give clear instructions to the students.
 Distribute the worksheets

Student will:
 Solve the worksheets individually.

In this activity, I will be assessing the students learning by roaming around and checking on the students as
well as asking them questions while doing the activity to make sure they’re on track.

Closing

In the closing activity, I will ask the students about the actions that we took in the lesson ( Fly kites, Make
5 min

cakes, Talk, Watch TV). After that I will show them some slides with pictures of each action, and I will ask
Whole

each group about the picture and they should tell me what action is this. Example: I will show them a picture of
a boy talking to his mother, so the students will say (talking, talks or talk) with who? The mother. And so on.
Time:

This closing activity will be taking as an assessment for the students learning after finishing the lesson to
check up on the students understanding of the following actions.

Assessment (highlight when/where you will do this is the lesson plan).

 The assessment is used through the lesson as it shows in every activity with the bold font.

Reflection
Analyze (A):
How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding?
 Think about what the students already know about this concept/subject?
What I think that the students already know about the lesson is the family members (mother, father, sister,
brother, grandma and grandpa) because they already took about them in the previous day.

 Describe what you did to tap into the student’s prior knowledge of the concept/subject

To make the students more interested in the lesson and to get them deep into it, I started to engage the students learning
by asking them a question about the previous lesson to refresh their memory, after that I linked the previous lesson with
the current one and I started telling them that we will be taking a new lesson about the family but their actions at home
for example, my mother cooks, my father watches TV, etc..

How well did you engage the students?

 Describe the level of student engagement that took place during the introduction, active engagement, formative
assessment and closing
During the lesson, the students were well engaged specially in the circle time, because I played a song to the
students where it explains the actions of the family, and I told them to pay attention because after watching the
video I will be asking them some questions about it, so the students were paying attention and keeping up in
watching the video, after watching the video I started asking questions to the students about the video for example,
“what was the father doing in the video?” and the students will answer the question according to what they saw in
the video. And that where I knew that the students were well engaged for the lesson. So, I started explaining the
lesson to the students and gave them the activity, which in the first activity they were asked to solve an activity in
the activity book individually and I was able to observe the students learning and to check on their understanding
throughout the lesson by asking them questions while doing the work. After finishing the activity, I answered the
questions in the book with the whole class by asking the students what they wrote in every blank. For the closing I
asked the students a general question “what does your family do in the house?” or “who cooks in the house?” and
the students answered the question but with different answers. Some of them said “my father watched tv” and
others said, “my sister tidies her room” and so on. The closing helped me to assess the students learning.

Why do you think the students responded the way that they did?
 Discuss any disruptions that occurred & why you believe they happened

While teaching the students, I had some bad behavior in the classroom especially when I was giving out instructions to
the students some of them were talking to their classmates which inappropriate, so I managed that by doing “eyes on
me” strategy where I will be saying eyes on me and the students will say eyes on you and they have to look at me while
saying that. And I think the reason behind why the students were talking while I was trying to give out the instructions
is because the students got bored of the fact that I was talking the whole class as well as I was trying to make them
quiet.

Use the ‘Areas of improvement’ section of feedback from MST/MCT

After teaching the students, my MST gave me an oral feedback by telling me that I should raise my voice while giving
out the instructions to get the students attention.

Appraise (A):
Did your lesson meet your teaching goals?
 Describe the evidence from your lesson which proves that the students understood the LO

This evidence shows that the students has understood the lesson, by drawing their family members and
mentioning what each member does in their house. For example, the student drew their mother and wrote “my
mom cooks”
Next Steps in learning and teaching (Using the evidence of learning above e.g. formative assessments briefly state
what you will do next in and show this in your next lesson plan).

The next steps that I’ll be looking forward to do is to give the students clearer instructions about the activities
