1. The first article is “Case Study of Drug Addict” by Rabia Karim and it’s an instrumental
case study, the author uses expository writing. The second article is “The High Cost of
Prescription Drugs in the United States” by Aaron Kesselheim and the author uses
2. In Karim’s article, she studied a single male client who is thirty years old and his initials,
W.R., are given in the article. In this case study, W.R. had a bad childhood which led to
him falling in with the wrong crowd and becoming a drug addict. He developed a craving
for drugs, self-dislike, worthlessness and passivity. The main goal of this case study was
to get W.R. to communicate with his therapists, get rid of his craving for drugs and
increase his confidence in himself. The main purpose of Kesselheim’s article is medicine
management, and the cost of prescription drugs are increasing which can have positive
3. Karim’s intended audience are people who are interested in professions related to
4. Karim’s case study is an informative article because it discusses mental health issues and
how a person’s environment can lead to them becoming an addict. Her case study studies
the behavior of W.R. before and after therapy sessions and after he uses the medications
provided to him to cope with depression and addiction. In every stage of this study the

readers are informed of the positive and negative changes in W.R.’s health physically and
mentally. Her focus was to learn the relationship between these therapeutic sessions and
W.R. and we are informed about every steps she took to do so. Kesselheim’s article is a
persuasive piece because he gathered facts about pharmacoeconomics and how much the
United States spends on each person for prescribed drugs and he compares that cost to the
cost of other countries. He suggests that the US market should make policies that’ll
contain or reduce the cost of prescribe drugs because otherwise many people won’t be
able to have access to live saving drugs. He tries to persuade the readers that if policies
aren’t made then the drugs we need regularly won’t be available to us and we will all face
5. These articles are credible because Karim’s article was published in a scholarly
article was published by The Journal of the American Medical Association, which is a
peer-reviewed medical journal and they publish original research done by professionals.
6. Karim used primary evidence in her research because everytime W.R. was treated Karim
received recordings of changes that occured in his body and she used charts and table in
her research to prove how his mental and physical health improved. Kesselheim used
statistical and secondary evidence to justify his claims. He used statistics to show how
much the U.S. spends on each person for prescription drugs every year and to discuss the
price of other types of drugs. The author also uses other articles that support his thesis of
7. Karim’s article goes in order because she presents her problem, information about the
subject of the case, background information on the problems, charts and tables that helps
us understand, compare and contrast the results from the beginning to the end and she
analyzes the results at the end. Kesselheim’s article uses sub categories to define his
problem, give evidence, background information, his findings on that topic and a
conclusion.
9. Performing the genre analysis of each article helped me understand the writing in the
and case studies are much more complicated than they seem. Pharmaceutical industry is
not just about medicine and the human body but it’s also about economics. You have to
know how to sell medicine but also keep the people happy at the same time with pricing
be really good at analyzing people and their situations. You have to be good at research
