KCC COACHES
GARY SPRAGUE Head Coach
First year head coach Gary Sprague enters KCC after a long and storied coaching
career in high school. Coach Sprague retired in 2016 after 36 years of coaching
high school basketball at Gull Lake High School. Coach Sprague started his
coaching career during the 1979-80 basketball year as the Gull Lake JV boys
basketball. After 14 years of coach the freshmen and JV teams, Coach Sprague took
over the varsity coaching reins in 1996 at Gull Lake. After 21 years as the varsity
coach, he compiled a 340-160 record including six conference championships and
six district titles, highlighted with 2 trips to the Final Four at the Breslin Center.

Coach Sprague graduated from Western Michigan University with a BA in History Gary Sprague
and minored in Communication and Political Science. He also earned a degree Head Coach
in Secondary Education and later earned a Master’s Degree in Political Science.
He retired from teaching after 35 years at Gull Lake High School. Coach Sprague
and his wife, Irma, presently live in Comstock. They have four children; Mark who
resides in Los Angeles, Alison who resides in Boston and Drew and Adam who
reside in Kalamazoo.

DIANTE TAYLOR Assistant Coach


Diante Taylor joins the Bruins as a first year assistant coach. Coach Taylor has
plenty of court success to bring into the fold as a young assistant coach. He
finished his basketball career at Marygrove College with over 1700 points and
almost 700 rebounds, highlighted with a 1st team All-American honor his senior
year. Coach Taylor also was selected to play in Costa Rica during the summer of
2015 and played in Spain in the summer of 2017. He finished his playing career as
the 3rd all-time point scorer at Marygrove College.

Coach Taylor has worked at Starr Commonwealth in Albion, where he helped


coach their basketball team. He also trains young basketball players with their Diante Taylor
fitness as they follow their dreams of a basketball career. Coach Taylor also has his Assistant Coach
own fashion line called GNS, which stands for Grind Never Stops. Currently, Coach
Taylor works at the Target Distribution Center while he is not coaching.

JASON ELDER Assistant Coach


Jason Elder enters his first year with the Bruin coaching staff. Coach Elder
graduated from Jonesville High School where he was a first team All-State
basketball player and three-sport athlete. He continued his basketball career at
Spring Arbor College where he was a two time First Team All-American scoring
over 2,200 points in his career.

After graduating from Spring Arbor, coach Elder began his teaching and coaching
career at Gull Lake High School. He has taught social studies and physical
education and coached basketball for almost 20 years and does personal training
with young athletes in the summer. Coach Elder lives in Richland with his wife Kelly
and son Warrick.
